When Christ returns to claim His bride, it will be revealed that some of those who claim to know Him are in actuality false believers. He will find both wise virgins who have possessed faith and foolish virgins who have only professed faith.
In this study of Matthew 25:1-13, John Gerstner reminds us that there are many in the church who are not really saved. He examines the outward works that both Christians and non-Christians may produce and encourages people in the church to search their hearts for the obedience that demonstrates the reality of the faith professed.

Assembling together and being a member are not the same thing. This works both ways. We should not fall into error on this point. There is no membership roll in the NT church.

Obedience! Change of heart, sanctification. Knowing him and he knowing you through prayer and supplication.

So why wouldn't it just mean to we have to persevere to the end. He promised to never leave us but it is we who leave God. Jesus said, abide in me and I will abide in you. We abide by faith and obedience to the truth. And if we sin we go continue on as children learning to walk by faith in all circumstances.

we will persevere if we are true, He will keep us. The fact that they are all called virgins, is the key here.

You absolutely CAN be a Christian w/out being a member of the church - it will be tough going for your faith, but attending church does not make you a Christian.

@@joshuatheo1419 "a part of the body of Christ" -- which part? Is the body simply a mouth (pastor) and many ears (the congregation)? Is it a body when, in its conduct, it denies its need of the other parts which would make it whole? THAT is the church today! Now, the day I see a church where ALL the members are functioning as a dynamic, unified, whole body -- every part as needed and valuable as the others -- well, nothing could keep me away from THAT church! I'd lay down my life for THAT body of Christ! Until then... In John Bunyan's book "The Pilgrim's Progress" -- the most beloved book second to the Bible -- the character "Faithful" bypasses the Porter's House which represents the church. Bunyan did not believe church attendance was necessary for salvation.
