I just watched your review on the 10 watt laser from Ortur. My wife bought me one for Christmas. They left out a lot of information or just didn't have it. I use a cabinet I bought from Ortur, they never gave any thought to those that use one. That electronic device was a bugger to install. Unlike Ortur, I fashioned a bracket to attach mine. Same as the air line, by now you know you have to push down on that ring to lock in hose. Like you said, they cod have done a better job. My two cents anyway. I have learned a lot from you, thanks.
Ordered this from AE about couple weeks ago. Paid just $170, saving about $120!. Realized it might just be the module, but it came with all the mounting hardware and controller board, even spare lens! Only thing I had to replace was the power supply which was meant for another country. So far, no issues, engraves and cuts way better than the standard LM2 5.5w module. Only grudge is the mounting of controller board. Gonna try and come up with some 3D printed part to make it more secure.
Hi sir I really appreciate you I considered you as my teacher I am really learning what I wanted to by following your steps Tons of respect and love for you sir
Another great video, Thanks Rich. and I would advise next time you go fishing, I would be wearing a hat. I would like to see a video of the fishing side of things. Its great to see other parts of the world from the people whom live in these places rather than just on TV
Someone may have already addressed this, but I had the same problem with the air hose not staying put. I had a slightly smaller hose lying around. It was a clear silicone style tube and that fits perfectly.
Nothing worse than a bald man with sunburn. Worst pain I have ever had. :) I HAVE been waiting for this so thanks. I am looking forward to getting one at some point. Last time I checked they were still sold out of them. Also when I was talking with the company about this head I discovered that it is NOT compatible with the z-axis adapter they sell for the other heads. Hopefully they will come out with one that fits it. Those are really nice.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I moved to an Atomstack 20w machine so it is no longer an issue for me, but I think I liked my Ortur better. Had better (finer) point for engraving and much better cable handling. But I am still having tons of fun with it. Hoping to make a business out of it for retirement. Thanks for your efforts to further this craft. Best resource I have yet found for this.
Hi Rich, thanks for the informative review. What I was hoping to learn was if this module can be used on the ‘older’ systems, specifically the LMP2 in my case. Perhaps a “short” 😂video on this topic would be of interest to your followers if the 10w can be added to them. Thx
@@krisknowlton5935 Thanks Kris, I’m having a major issue with NEJE A40640, never has fired so trying to return but getting the run around. Dealing with their support for 5 months. This seems to be a simple option then.
Hi Rich, thanks for this video, great content. I've been thinking of upgrading and have been intouch with Ortur to ask a few questions as the info on various sites aren't great. I have the Z axis lifter so will need an adapter plate which according to Ortur isn't available. I would have had the circuit board in a case and then mount at the back, as a former electronics engineer the cable management is bad, it really irritates me. I'm used to looming cables and took pride in lacing cables as we didn't use ties. They should design with more thought about retro fitting upgrades.
Bardzo dobrze pokazane, jest wszystko co potrzeba. Zamówiłem LU2-10 A , jutro dostane przesyłkę. Dziękuje za fajne filmiki , porady będę wykorzystywać. Suba dałem.
That's up to them James. I have found a lot of issues with the D1 and I'm not getting any answers from them since their focus is on marketing. It won't be long before I throw it in the trash.
Hi Rich, Your 10W laser module review was great. I have 2 questions. 1. The instruction sheet says to go to laser GRBL, go to configuration, and change the value of $131 to 390. Also, there is a push button switch on the top of the module next to the cable that plugs into the module which seems to do nothing. Do you know what this switch is for? Thank You for your help.
$131 is the max travel on the Y Axis, and depending on your model, it may need to be changed. There is no switch that I know of on the module. There's the plug for the power and the plug for the air assist line.
Hey Rich! I know all about getting burnt fishin! I am having a hard time with my cord management. Mine drags the board and am not sure how to support them. Please Advise. "If you're too busy to go fishing.... You're just too damn busy!"
Hi Rich, I love all your videos. I just recently replaced my laser master 2 LU2 2W to the 10 W module. Im loving it. I was concerned about the air assist hose as well, but it worked fine and held in place. Do you have a recommendation on how to do a grayscale test on anodized business cards or dog tags? Obviously, you can't set up that grayscale wheel to be 155 mm. Thanks, Ed
Yes Ed, in the Laser Tools --> Material Test. While it's not grayscale, you can get fill engrave settings and guestimate from there for some baseline testing.
Hi just watched this a second time, now that I have the upgrade as well. just after the ten minute mark I was wondering what the white cable management clips where or where I can get them from?
Hey Rich , Again thank you for a great video - I have be juggling weather I should upgrade to this 10 w laser. And after watching this video I have just placed the order. I must also say I have learnt so much from your other videos. I'm amazed what I can do now with the Laser from watching your videos. I have to ask one question during the video you showed a a picture of the legends of the blues is picture available some where to purchase. My Daughter is a major blues Lover and it would make a great gift for her. Again thanks again. Best regards from Canada
Great review. Since I'm originally from Louisiana and grew up fishing in Plaquemines Parish for speckled trout and redfish I love to see some fishing videos. So I recently purchased the Aufero 2 as an intro laser to learn about them. I using Lightburn since it seems to have many more compatible file types. My biggest issue is the fumes. I live in MN and of course, it's -8 degrees currently outside so opening windows to exhaust the fumes is not possible. What is the best solution in your opinion??
In my other shop I have an exhaust fan that vents to the outdoors. At the wall, where it passes through, I have a fitting that only allows one way of flow, and I have it wrapped in insulation. This is the best solution IMO. It's sort of like a dryer vent.
Great video!! I have been waiting for this and my fear was confirmed with the new module, it doesn't allow you to use the z height adjustment accessory. One correction though they are called zip ties.
Ak Sasquatch, yea, that is the only thing I didn't like but when I have the time I will correct that. Other than that I think it is a great upgrade. I have done a few projects with it and they turned out great. I use a lot of hard maple in my projects and this module cuts through really nice. What took up to 4 passes with the 5 watt now only takes 1 pass with no charing.
So, the 10w laser is on sale at my local Microcenter do you recommend it over the stock 5.5w LF? I intent to both engrave and cut varieties of materials. Also, I seem to be having difficulty finding free laser engraving/cutting test files any recommendations? Thank you in advance.
rather than spending $250 on the cheesy rube goldburg tie the board on the side approach I purchased a 'refurbished' lm2 pro s2. this lets you slide on a new gantry and 10a laser module, but most importantly you get the s2 control module and cable set to replace the old lm2 pro module and cable. a much cleaner approach for a few dollars more.
So my wife bought me the S2 Pro with the LU2-4-LF module. If I understand your video correctly, I can buy just this upgrade and replace the board and module and still use the rest of the machine?
Yes you can, but I would wait until mid-December if I were you Steve. I just got the Comgrow 20W module, pre-release, and it'll come in around the same price, with adaptation for Ortur!
Thanks so very much this really gives ya something to think about. What air assist module are you using? Even more important how were the fish bitingly?
I was using the Dewallie air assist John. It's going to be part of accessory week, and in fact is the next video. Went catfishing this morning in Lake Salvador and came home with 50lbs. The wife is cleaning them now!
I hope you can answer this but I got the LU2-10A and installed it. Everything works but in the laser grbl model setting under the laser grbl settings DB the LU2-10A doesn't show up on there. What laser model do you suggest using in place of the LU2-10A? Thank you so much for the video and the answer.
So upgrading to this module from my LU2-2 will not cut down on engraving time? I generally engrave 7x8 inch Monograms at 600-800mm/m @ 100% on 15x11 cutting boards and they take 2+ hours each.
Hello Rich. I purchased an Ortur Master 3 that should be coming in tomorrow and am very excited. Before I buy an air assist pump for it I'd like to know if I can use an air compressor. I have 2 compressors, a small one with a maximum PSI of 58 which I cannot control and a regular 2 gallon compressor with a Maximum of 210 PSI, this one I can control the output to the tool I am using. If I can use any of these I'd like to know what adapters I need to buy, I know the OD of the hose is 6MM and ID is 4MM but do not know how to connect it the the laser head, I'd appreciate your suggestions. Thanks
First you would need a regulator to govern the psi to 9-15. Anything over that will defeat the purpose and prevent the laser from burning. And then you would need a splitter: amzn.to/3NOTQjS to attach the hose and reduce it.
Great video as usual! I am one of your followers and I have learnt a lot watching your videos, thank you very much for that! I watched this video only few days ago because I bought the 10W laser head only recently, but I'm having a problem with it. I have also the Ortur 5.5W head and when I use it to engrave ceramic tiles with the Norton method, blacks are much blacker than with the 10W head, even using it at 100% power. Most of the images engraved with the 10W head, whatever power or speed I use, are grey. Instead, with wood I got excellent results. Do you have an idea of what happens? I hope to have been clear enough, my English is poor. Thanks again and regards from Italy.
Hi Rich. Great video review. My module should be here is a day or two per tracking. Would you happen to know if the Laser Head Focusing Controller for Ortur Laser Master 2 Pro S2 can be modified to accept the 10w? I can revert back to the stock Z bracket if I have to. Thanks.
Is there any reason to believe that a OLM2 Pro upgraded with a 10w module would not perform similarly up to 9000mm/min? Is there any loss in detail from instability of frame the OLM2? Thanks. Great videos.
First of all, thank you Rich for another very informative video! What bothers me about Ortur is the fact that they throw this module on the market without sufficient background information on the compatibility of previous models. e.g. Can I use the module on my LM2 Pro S2? Do I have to use this included universal board? Do I need a different power supply for it? Can I continue to use my purchased Z-axis height adjustment? Surely there are more such questions from other users. I slowly suspect that they would rather sell the new OLM3 than the module as an upgrade for older models.
You can use it with any LM2 Pro or Aufero Laser 2. It comes with the 2nd power supply. You do have to use 2 power supplies with the adapter board, and it doesn't fit the Z adjuster unless you somehow customize it.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy In the video published today by Ortur Official entitled: "Assembly Method of Four Laser Modules on Ortur Laser Master 2 Pro S2", ONLY the supplied new connection cable is connected to "L" on the OLM2 Pro S2. There is no mention of the circuit board enclosed with the laser shown in your video, nor of a different power supply. That irritates me a bit now.
Hi there is issue in Engraving while i am doing it first it is Engrave to dark even at 10% power. And only out side of the image or text Engraving not all fillings inside it. Can you please guide me.
I'm looking for help with my upgrade. I have it connected correctly (quadruple checked) and the circuit board shows the blue light for 24v lit. The laser on the other hand is not powering. Can you confirm the fans and red light should be on at power up?
Hi Rich, do you think the 10W unit will fail sooner than a 5W unit? I have concerns that I would have to buy a replacement 10W head sooner, as it may only last half as long as the original 5W due to heat
Thank you for this very informative video. This exact set up is on the way to my house. I have 2 questions. 1. I need to get an air assist. As you pointed out this laser comes equipped with air assist so if I understand correctly, I should only need a pump and not a complete kit. Can you recommend a pump or what power of a pump I should get? Question 2. Which honeycomb surface do you recommend? I do not need one as big as yours. What is a good size for the Aufero Laser 2. Thank you so much! I am a newbie trying to make sure I get the right equipment. Thank you again!
Any air pump with a 30L per min flow will work fine. Comgrow makes a good metal honeycomb bed at 400x400 that will work. If you want to use magnets, it needs to be metal and not aluminum like most.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Plus, I plan on working with leather. Do you know if there is an encloser for the Aufero Laser 2. that works. I hear leather can get kind of smelly. :) Thank you once again.
hi thanks for the video ... like you!!! perfectly engraves.. How can I find out what parameters you set for glass engraving , can I find out ? or do you have a video clip :? I have a 10A machine, Artur Lazer Master 2 PRO S2.. tried on glass but does not engrave.. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. It works fine on metal..
Hi everybody. I replaced my laser head unit to a new LU2-10A laser head unit and connected it to my laser device, model OLM2PRO S2. I uploaded a file using the LIGHTBURN software and... the laser does not engrave. I've attached a video. Does anyone have an idea what to do? I would appreciate any suggestion.
I'm under the impression that you do not need to go through the Universal Adapter Board or use the extra Power Source if you have the 24 Volt Ortur LM2 Pro, yet the several videos I have seen all show them being connected via the Adapter without mentioning that they are connecting to a 12 Volt System. I just connected mine directly to the Laser Module. Am I wrong?
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I was concerned about this, since mine seems to be running just fine connected directly to the "L" Connector(I'm using a 24v 3amp Power Adapter derived from (24v/10w=2.4amps). I had read somewhere during the early promotion of the LU2-10A that it was for the 24 volt system and that they were coming out with an adapter to support the 12 Volt Systems. Since no where on the Internet nor the Owner's Manuel does it say this and now you are confirming it, I contacted Ortur and Gil replied that the OLM2 Pro S2 (and only the S2) is connected directly to the "L" connector and you will need a 24v 4amp Power Adapter.
I got an email from Ortur that said the 10 watt laser fits the lm2s, lm2 pro but the back plate does not fit the lm2. I would have to 3d print one that fits.3d print my comment. Otherwise it would work.
I have the NEJE master 2. I have burned with it before, but for some reason I try to burn a 2 inch picture it tells me it’s outside the boundaries. Help,,,please
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I allready watched that one, it didn’t cover my problem. My problem is I have lost my grid. My numbers across the top are like -1289 and about the same on the side.
The original LM & LM2 are 12V, and the LM2 Pro is 24V, so to use it on the original, you would need a separate power supply for the laser and would have to disconnect the red pin from the control wire Dan.
I just installed this laser on my LM2 Pro and it doesnt even get close to cutting 3mm ply with the settings you tested. Not sure where I'm going wrong. Are there new laser settings I need to put into lightburn for it to use the full power of the laser vs the stock laser? I have both PSUs connected.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I just did a cut test using the material test tool. Im able to cut 4mm ply at max 340mm, when running 90%, 3 passes. Is this about expected? Was focused using the built in folding arm. Text is clear and looks good.
Thanks for another great video. I have the LM3 10W and I cannot even cut the thin basswood (1.5mm) at 360mm/m 100%! If I force it out, it splinters. That setting barely scores the wood on 3mm ply. What am I missing? I use the little 'kickstand' for focusing and I have tried raising and lowering also. Thanks!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thanks! After watching both of these videos twice and running the ramp test, I've made a little progress. I can now cut 1.5mm basswood with 1 pass at 360 & 100% I looked at the lens but I'm not sure how to tell if it is perfectly clean. The tube and the orange cover are clean. For my ramp test, I elevated one end of the wood 8mm. I ran it 3 times, once focusing with the kickstand on the far left, once in the middle, and once at the far right. All three passes resulted in the focus position being the thinnest line. I did notice that you have Constant Power Mode turned on, so I turned that on, but I'm still nowhere near cutting through 3mm ply. I am using air assist. I've cut at 300, 200, 100, and 50 all 100% and the wood is barely scored. If you closed your eyes and ran your finger over the 'engraving' you wouldn't feel anything. I cleaned everything again and ran the test over with a 1 mm lower focus. Same result.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I've cut at 300, 200, 100, and 50 all 100%, and the wood is barely scored. If you closed your eyes and ran your finger over the 'engraving' you wouldn't feel anything. I've tried a couple of different types of plywood (one being birch) but the results are the same. I can cut through the thin (1.5 - 2mm) DollarTree basswood at 400 speed 100% in 1 pass. It barely burns the waste board and doesn't just drop out, but with just a slight push, it pops out with no splintering.
Merci pour tes vidéos. Petite question..as-tu déjà vécu ce problème de la double brûlure au début et à la fin d’une gravure? Ça cré une ligne noire qui déguise le travail. Merci!
Rich, it sounds like you need to start collecting HATS for a new hobby! Speaking as a proud member of the Follicly Challenged Club, I literally felt your pain when you showed your peeling scalp.
