When you come to stretch your data, as David Stearn commented below you may wish to try unlinked stretching! My advice would be to create a clone of your image right before stretching, stretch one linked, the other unlinked, then try NN on both - continue to process the one that you like best, close the other! 👍 Clear skies!

One tip about BlurXT - if you run it twice - once with the 'correct only' box ticked, that'll get rid of the chromatic abberation and misshapen stars. Then untick that box and run it a second time like you normally would. Then your stars will be much cleaner.

Nice to wake up this morning and see another fine processing video from you Luke. They have helped me tons and each time I watch one I learn something new. I did not notice you mention which engine in BXT you picked (V2 or V4) and also if the elongated stars in the corners got fixed but I suspect they did. Thanks for sharing !

Great video as always! Going to try it on my first narrowband capture ever of the Eagle nebula! I was doing some testing and didn’t expect to be able to capture any data just seeing if I could get focus and stuff like that. I didn’t even polar align. Somehow my guiding was 0.7 arcsec so I just picked a target from the sky atlas in NINA and left it overnight. Using L-ultimate and 4 min subs I got 3 hours of data. I was shocked to see the images! Never seen that many stars before since I was doing broadband from Bortle 8/9 skies.

Awesome as usual, I've been using your previous osc to hubble tutorial to work with my images from my Artemis C pro and Askar d1 6nm dual narrowband filter with varying results. I have a form of colour blindness that makes processing astro images really complicated in broadband, but in narrowband you can't really be wrong, as it's all artists interpretation of the data... Got my Bahtinov mask from your ebay store the other day and resolved an issue I was having with my oag and main cameras focus being slightly out, guiding was much improved as a result, so thank you for that!

That was very useful and well done-thanks very much! And while it’s hard to fix that halo in Pixinsight, you can deal with it pretty easily in Photoshop if you bring the starless image into Photoshop and use the “remove” tool on it. Does a pretty credible job if you aren’t opposed to that sort of thing.

Luke, Why did you use a linked stretch instead of an unlinked stretch? Based on Bill Blanshan’s recommendation the Oiii and Ha look better if you use a linked stretch prior to NBN. An alternate workflow is to use Color Calibration then GHS prior to NBN.
@lukomatico

Great comment mate, I'd suggest for people to make a clone prior to going nonlinear and try both ways - I've had luck either way, but I agree it could be a useful addition 👍 Cheers!

Thanks for your time and effort to make these video's
@lukomatico
@lukomatico Месяц назад
Thank you for your kind message mate!! I don't have videos on how to make plugins etc, those ones you referred to were created by my friend, Bill Blanshan 👍 Re: saving process icons, you can usually use the small arrow in the bottom corner of a window to drag a shortcut onto your workspace, arrange them how you'd like, right click an empty space on the workspace and press 'select all icons', then right click again and 'save icon set' this should allow you to save them out, so you can right click and 'load icon set' the next time you use pixinsight 👍 hope that helps!!

Great tutorial Luke. I use a very similar process workflow (based of course on your previous video). Just wondering if you can partially get rid of that nasty star halo by doing a Clone Stamp over it in the starless image. The stars only image looks ok but the major halo is in the starless image. hello, first, thank you very much for your tutorials, I learned a lot and still learning. Your videos are very clear and cool. I tried this tutorial on m16, but I had an issue : the center zone hoo selected with narrowband was too big, and all the center result in a big blue area. So my question is : is it possible to reduce the area (like in mask range) ? or this tutorial is not adapted for m16 ? thank you.

Luke, thank you for creating this valuable video. A question I have concerns screening. As you did in the video, I use the “unscreen” option in StarXterminator and then rescreen the stars when I put them back into the starless image. However, I don’t know what “screening” is and I haven’t found an explanation online. Any chance you could provide a brief explanation?
@lukomatico
@lukomatico Месяц назад
Hey there my friend! screening is an option to allow you to remove and reinsert the stars less destructively than pure addition does - addition does just that, adds the starless + stars together, inevitably leading to bright spots & burnout where stars are reintegrated to the already bright image, rescreening is more akin to a gentle blend, helping preserve highlights - Hope that helps!

Hey Luke hope all is well. Many of us in the hobby are stuck to free software. I feel like many of the bigger astro youtubers mainly use PixInsite and create PixInsite tutorials. Have you ever used the PIxel math tool within Siril? And if so, would you consider making an in depth video on Pixel Math in Siril? I know the tool isnt identical to PixInsites Pixel math, but is still very powerful / capable. Regardless. Great work and clear skies.

I think nobody should cheap out on software. It is essential for AP. Compared with anything else you need, pixinsight is not that expensive (they just raised the price to 300usd, I paid 230 back then) it is a one time buy and will probably not get cheaper with time.
