Oscar Peterson is not only the best jazz pianist in the world but right at home with classical. When Oscar died, I lost a musical friend. I am a jazz pianist and appreciate his contributions to music. Oscar Peterson rose above the bigotry, hatred in the world, and continues to shine as the brightest star. God Bless him as I know he is up there with Ray Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Ed Thigpen, and Louis Armstrong. I am happy to have been able to appreciate Oscar's piano playing as he is my mentor.
Oscar is my hero. One of his characteristics that impressed me most was his respect for his audience. He knew we loved him and he loved us as well. What incredible talent!
Simply...more than thank you to the late Oscar Petersen for 60 years of listening to your music....it's been a blast... Hope I have a few more years of sublime entertainment ❤️🙏
Peterson is so versatile! He can swing on a fast blues or meditate on a ballad-like song like this! He is my favorite jazz musician. RIP Oscar Peterson! God rest his soul.
Oscar's main voice was bluesy-swinging. This piece is so different, and it's so remarkable that he wrote it and had such varied dimensions in him. This piece is poetic, pensive, tender, wistful, evocative. Its melody and parts of Oscar's improvisation sink deep into you as only the greatest music does.
There is no season nor vista that isn't made more beautiful with the stylings of the great Oscar Peterson. Sorely missed and never to be replaced, in the hearts of those who loved and admired him.
OSCAR IS THE BEST...Simply put...No one then or now can compare. A gift to us all from God. His concert in Vienna (on DVD) shows it. Even after suffering a stroke he was still able to play as if it had never affected him...the mark of a true musical genius. R.I.P. Oscar and Thank You.
Here Oscar Peterson brings music together with life and photography. Great vision and just so beautiful I feel the emotion so much I cried while listening to this recording. That never happened to me before and reflects on the power of music, emotion, myself being a jazz pianist and composer. Great.
Ache..ingly beautiful if only someone could touch up the first 1 minute 30 seconds…..please !! This can’t be bettered as it’s a one off which almost precisely captured it’s essence, poetry !
I saw him play this at Monterey in 2006...he dedicated it to all his recently deceased musician friends...I've never felt so much emotion wrenched out of a piano, I actually cried.
Damian: The heart is a portal and sometimes our eyes are opened and we can see beyond the confines of this life into those other worlds which lead like a hall of mirrors into eternity . . . I would say this music reaches that level . . . at least we can listen and think about it all . . . and more importantly, if we're fortunate, we can feel where it takes us. Thanks to Oscar and thank you for your comment.
