I unbox the budget 12-string guitar from Oscar Schmidt (OD312/acoustic-electric/cutaway). A quick tuning, playthrough, and comparison to another beginner's guitar leads me to my conclusion.
i bought two of them. fantastic value for the price. i have been playing for over 40 years now, but i really fell in love with this one. simplicity & useability at its best for peanuts.
I agree totally. I bought one as my first 12 string. Hard to play even after adjustments and it sounded cheap. I ended up giving it away and bought another brand. You get what you pay for.
Thanks for this great review.I was thinking to buy one but after seen this video i won't. I will looking on an Epiphone or Yamaha. Now i have a Yamaha 335 6 strings and a Taylor 110e.
As a devoted 12 string guitarist I cannot see using anything higher than 09 extralight strings because of the "lightness" that is the 12string, change the strings, reset torque. Good guitar, at a certain point one recognizes a good guitar is neither beginners or professional but "adequate", the beginner/pro is all about your ability.
I bought one as a starter 12, three years ago at $160. I've had no problem with the bridge lifting or anything else construction wise. It seems sturdy to me. However, upon receiving I had to file the fret ends a LOT. The wood has some small natural dimples in it. I had to sand down the plastic saddle to lower the action. Plugged in it requires less finger strength to play. I've never played a top end 12 string so I can't compare, but for the price, it's a good starter.
I’m planning on buying one, and with adjustments, will it be worth it? I’m planning on spending $110 on the one i want, any tips on how to make it last longer? I will have it tuned in D
Just got one today ad with coupon code less than $100 delivered on jet.com. Didn't expect much but impressed otherwise- Every bit as good if not better than other entry level 12 strings. Frets are a bit sharp but not as bad in this video. The action is okay out of the box- and I tend to like it very low. No need or plans to change this one here. Fairly impressed actually. I have several Cordoba classicals and an Hola steel string- I like minimal and lightweight, with slightest clear coat to bleed the sound- This is a ROCK of a guitar- very solid feel-high gloss on deep body Great Die cast chrome tuners, loud sound- no initial trace of any face lift below the bridge, which I've seen looking at 12 strings in the stores through the years. Great deal for the low cost and quite happy with it. I think I can play it a year or two and get most of the money back if I want to sell it
I just got one a little over a month ago and the bridge is already coming unglued to the body and the paint is cracking near the bottom. Disappointed...
I bought this guitar. I think there's a lot of workmanship in this guitar and I love it. The back is absolutely beautiful. The action is just fine. I first tuned to drop D for 2 weeks, then I contacted the company about the hype concerning wharpage and dropping to D,etc. Answer was prompt. "Just be sure to use light strings for standard tuning". Company actually cares for buyers. I think the wharpage problem in general is because of years of people who overwound when tuning. It doesn't sound logical to me that a company would deliberately disregard the fact that 12 strs need additional structural support compared to 6th string, especially when there is so much competition out there these days.
The video is so misleading. Setting up a new guitar is normal and the sound of this one is just fin for the money when it's tuned properly. It's the player learning to play that counts, not so much an entry level guitar that allows a beginner to learn, The guy couldn't even play in this video and his own incompetence means the guitar is crap? Please.
I mean you bought it for $150 what did you really expect cheap things aren’t great and great things aren’t cheap that’s one downfall of instruments if you want a good one you really have to pay for it
