+Elsie Lovelock haha I know. When I was watching with my brother and something stupid happened I would say '''screen junkies are definitely going to put that in their video'' xD
He more than 100% deserves it, and I'm happy for him, but I'll admit, part of me is kinda bummed that Leo has an Oscar now. I guess it's just because it's kinda been his "thing" for so long now. After so many years, and after SO many incredible performances, it was almost like he was so good he didn't even need an Oscar. Again, he deserves it (and about a dozen others), but it just kinda feels like a part of who he was as a celebrity is gone now.
If you look closely at the other nomines' reactions when they heard ''Mark Raylance'', you realize that Mark Ruffalo and Tom Hardy were among his voters.
Dude, just because internet nerds wanted Sylvester Stallone to win, doesn't mean he was the favorite to win, and Rylance winning was a huge upset. I had all the actors who won for my predictions, they were all pretty much locks. ....Anybody who actually follows awards, knew Rylance was the favorite; Stallone wasn't even nominated for a SAG or a BAFTA, both of which better represent the Oscar voting body. Also Rylance won the BAFTA, so he had the momentum going into the Oscars. Stallone won the Golden Globe and the Critic's Choice Award, but those have no overlap with the Oscar's voting body. Whereas the SAG voting body is made up of actors, many of whom are Academy members, and there is also a slight overlap with the BAFTAs, with about 500 people also being Academy members. So, I'm not saying either way who deserved to win, but as far as it being an upset, that's just not true.
I don't see how he could have played that part any better, but that doesn't make it Oscar-worthy. I liked Tom Hardy's performance in The Revanant because it was a more impressive character to pull off.
Chris Rock did such a tasteful job of pointing out the racism and diversity issue with his opening monologue and they had the Academy President speak on it too. However, the rest of his bits really beat it into the ground. (Not to mention the interview with black moviegoers seemed to go against his argument. The one guy barely knew who Steven Spielberg was. These are the people you go to for opinions about a legitimate and serious issue?)
lol, you never seen any white people complaining or boycotting the nba or nfl even though most top players are black. ngl what he said was very hypocritical.
+PacMonster0 Well, if you say black actors are not cast because of white directors then go back and see a movie made by a black director. Not only is all black, many still prolong this diferencial shit by casting in a smaller role an almost white guy that is always stupid and dhumb. If there's prejudice its both SIDES. That's why I enjoy talent, I care not about skin color. HOLYWOOD is being pressioned to put black artists in major produtions. Its a blakc & White DIVIDED world. What's that?? And the others? Racism should have ended long, long time ago but its still on by muchers. Blacks have no more rights than anyone else. LOTS of great actors are put aside and they are NOT all black. Just chill out and make great movies, will you guys?
My favorite part was when Straight Outta Compton was nominated for best screenplay and 2 Mexicans won best director/cinematographer, but they called the Oscars racist anyways
Lt. Col. Frank Slade I've never actually watched Rocky, but I'm aware its a staple of American film culture. I think Rylance is also in date for an award, in fact the whole Buzz around Leo probably distanced other actors who all might have been set for some?? :S
+IntroSpecktive It was totally cringe worthy. Those were not jokes for the audience to laugh at except out of discomfort. Whether someone agrees that the points were valid or not, the jokes were really jabbing at the ceremony and it's entire level of importance. But I got the sense that it came off as "it's not important, so don't worry if it never becomes that diverse, it's nothing to get upset over" for some of the audience. When really it was, yes, things have and could be worse, look at the things minorities have had to worry about throughout, doesn't mean things like the Oscars can't do better now.
Unpopular Opinion: Leo didn't deserve the Oscar this year... He is amazing! Should've won it years ago for Django Unchained and Wolf of Wall Street. The Revenant was a beautiful movie, extremely deserving of the cinematography Oscar and I can't argue even the best director. Although I hadn't seen all the movies so I can't speak for the other actors, but even though I hate this actor, Matt Damon gave a better performance than Leo. It was like they reversed acting style this year, for the first time ever, Matt Damon didn't overact everything in his movie, and Leo couldn't be stopped from overacting. We get it! Pain and grunting!
+Logan Reid Media I'm with you on this one. Leo deserved an Oscar for quite some other performances, but The Revenant did not give Leo a chance to show enough acting to be Oscar worthy imo. All he did was crouching and suffering - no development or other nuances at all. Tom Hardy was much better in this movie. Too bad they missed so many opportunities to give an Oscar for a more complex and more showing role.
+Logan Reid Media but it's an unusual situation, he deserved an oscar many times so they gave it to him fr all of his great performances actually, revenan was just an argument they had to make it up to him, plus leo was great in the movie come on
As a german watching it from 3 am to 6 am on a damn monday I liked that moment when they did not show a category winner and did a commercial break instead. So memorable!
Here are the nominees for most awards in one night: Mad Max: Fury Road Mad Max: Fury Road Mad Max: Fury Road Mad Max: Fury Road And the award goes to... Yep you guessed it! Mad Max: Fury Road
+BoHimn you are probably insanely lonely because you go around telling women to wear less makeup. We don't wear it for you, we wear it because we like it.
H R Wow thats an interesting comment. I don't go around telling people what to do because I don't give a shit what people do. I also don't think I am the lonely one in this convo
God, I love Screen Junkies. I wait the whole year for stuff like The Screenies or The Grouchies, and I even workout while watching Movie Fights. I got here thanks to Honest Trailers, but I'm glad you guys create such amazing aditional content. Greetings from Uruguay!
+jak utapau A best actor winner... yeah i'd say he's pretty great. And besides, even if you disagree, it's hardly an audacious claim considering his status.
Best diversity protest of the night: Give out hundreds of boxes marked delicious, dark chocolate Thin Mints only to have everyone's hearts broken when they open the boxes to find boring, stale Shortbreads. Chris Rock, you're a subtle genius! #CookiesSoWhite

The disappointing part about your list is the supporting actor list. You kept Sylvester Stallone but threw away Tom Hardy??? It's the other way around my friend.
+Lucas Kambeitz Okay if you're going to re-do them, then re-do them right. Most of your picks are the exact same. And you kept all the lead actresses in the supporting actress category (Rooney Mara, Kate Winslet, and Alicia Vickander for Danish Girl were definitely lead roles)
Why do they have a problem with Mark Rylance? He deserved it, he was way better than stallone. The most surprising win for me was the oscar for visual effects gone to ex machina when i was expecting star wars or mad max.
+Grayson Myers He means that you must not have gotten the best sound quality for Mad Max, because if you did, then you'd know why Fury Road won for Best Sound Mixing and Editing
garner montgomery Oh no, I'm not entirely upset with it at all. It was a 50/50 for me on sound. It's just that Mad Max swept the floor, I think Star Wars deserved at least one, and sound was the one I was really pushing for.
I thought Ex-Machina for Best Visual Effects was much more of a surprize than Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies. Mark Rylance was really good, btu against Mad Max Fury Road and Star Wars The Force Awakens, how did Ex-Machina win!
I think Chris Rock was pretty good, my only complaint was that EVERY SINGLE THING he said was about the whole Oscars being white thing, he literally didn't talk or make jokes about anything else. It would've been nice to see at least a little bit of variety. But those were the only jokes he made. Seemed a bit lazy to me...
If it were up to me.. Picture: Spotlight Director: Alejandro Actor: Leo Actress: Saoirse S. Actor: Sly S. Actress: J.J. Leigh Cinematography: Revenant O. Screenplay: Inside Out A. Screenplay: Brooklyn
Just because Sly is Rocky doesn't mean he should win the award. Mark Rylance, whether you know who he is or not, deserved to win the Oscar a lot more. Sly just played himself
+Cherry Darling Honestly, I didn't even know that Stallone was considered a front-runner! I thought he was just in there, because people wanted to applaud him for doing something with a bit more soul than most of the stuff he has done in the last decade or so! And when the moment finally came, I was completely baffled how so many people reacted with shock and surprise that he didn't win... For me, it was either going to be Tom Hardy or Mark Rufallo. Actually, I was almost sure that Rufallo would win.
Congrats to Mark Rylance for winning this year's Neck Award. It's awarded annually to a performer who gets shit for winning an award, except none of them saw the movie, they just know the other guy better.
+Murcia doxial I agree that Hardy was brilliant, but could you hear more than 45% of what he was saying? Also, I think that Mark Rylance gave a subtle, witty, understated performance that definitely deserved recognition.
Y'know, one could make a case that if Henry Cavill had played a smug super spy in some film last year (maybe an adaptation of an old TV show that starred a current NCIS cast member), you could make a bigger argument for him playing Bond. If only...
+StrawB0ss - I know. It seems so out of place best buy advertising on the internet. Their business model is is to overcharge for items we get cheaper on the internet (why we don't go to best buy), or to advertise on Black Friday a profit margin lower than all their competitors for an item, in which case they don't need to sponsor ads because we will find that best price anyway!
Yes, seriously, Mark Rylance. His performance had an understated quality, a subtlety that didn't need an Oscarbation scene to get across the gravity of a situation or the emotion that a sequence needed to convey. Not that any of the people whining about it would have noticed. Got a nice, cheap cryfest? A righteous freakout over a universally-agreed-upon issue? I guess that must deserve it, not a realistic, nuanced, layered performance like the one Mark Rylance put forth.
Worst moment was definitely Stallone getting snubbed. I mean I would've taken anybody else and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks that who was rooting for Mark Rylance to win
Ugh. I'll be honest with you, I liked Sam Smith's Writings on the Wall, but I'm sorry. His live performance was terrible. I literally had to mute my t.v..
Hmm, I thought this was going to be a discussion show like they usually do (which would've been more interesting) but its another one of those sarky award shows that Hal likes so much.
My favorite part of the Oscars was Chris Rock pointing out a perceived racism while sounding rather racist himself. Which was every time he opened his mouth on stage.
Kate Winslet should've won for Best Supporting Actress in Steve Jobs. Her performance was terrific and the first time I saw Steve Jobs, I didn't even realize that she was in the movie.
