I was 15ish at the time of the release of these films, and getting to revisit with you two has been a blast. One of the things that was just starting to influence the movie industry was MTV. That was the cross-pollinating phenom of all the films the early 80's. Making films in the style of MTV was a technique that was guaranteed to get teens to the movie theatre. Thank you so much for this.

There actually was a remake of OGP in 2001. It was a live television performance of the play for CBS with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in the leads. Reuniting for the first time since "The Sound of Music".

With COF vs Reds, who saw Reds? 3hr plus, and not great vs. underdog film and 2hrs. It makes sense now.

I watched it as a 12 year old at a drive-in. I had no idea what was happening, but liked to be watching a movie outside.

That Supporting Actor Award helped John Gielgud become an EGOT winner (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony).

Dunaway should've won for Mommie Dearest, the film might not be great but her performance is incredible

Harrison Ford with Jane Fonds, why not for On Golden Pond reboot? But why do it is the better question

Before my time of loving movies. Seen all after the fact and surprised Chariots won, CODA ish. Only memory in theaters that year was seeing a horrid movie with Jerry Lewis, i think Rabbit Test, and leaving to go over to another theater and seeing last 1/2 of Raiders. How fun. 🤔

Since Joyce always seems to have some anecdotes from Inside Oscar, Chris should step up his game and bring out stories from Oscar Wars lol

On Golden Pond reboot- Jeff Bridges and Helen Mirren? Morgan Freeman and Leslie Uggams?

REDS lost best pic simply cause it was one of 3 Paramount titles and they split the Paramount vote. A great year for movies nonetheless.

Pennies from Heaven, a comedy? Absolutely not. Romance/Drama

Pretty mid year, with some stuff like Posession and Das Boot being standouts. But the lineup imo is pretty horrendous. Raiders is pretty overrated, and Chariots of Fire and On Golden Pond were both super mid/boring. Reds is kind of bad imo tbh. Havent seen Atlantic City, but I think ill like it because of Louis Malle. Das Boot or Posession should have won best picture

Rules Don’t Apply is one of the most incompetently made movies I’ve ever seen, absolutely terrible

1.) Raiders was a very well-made, very entertaining movie, it had a lot of great scenes, but the premise of the story was too absurd to be a Best Picture winner. I'm so glad that Chariots won, it was a moving tale of conflicting ambitions and just beautiful to see and hear. 2.) I think Diane Keaton deserved the Oscar that year, even though otherwise I wasn't a big fan of Reds. 3.) It's almost scandalous that Body Heat was overlooked. 4.) When the Best Picture winner was announced the looks on the faces of the nominees were so revealing. Beatty looked resigned to a disappointing loss, the producers of Atlantic City looked happy (I guess they knew they had no chance and thought Chariots was deserving), the producer of Raiders turns to look at the winners, so he probably respected the choice, and the producer of On Golden Pond had an arrogant, disgusted look on his face. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6vW8VrB_a8g.htmlsi=o21g1rHHgtKbmtvf&t=198

Isnt it genujnely fucking insane that movies like Raiders was considered crazy? Like these people know nothing about cinema. The Genre bias that oscars have is the proof that we live in a boring society
