This is one of the first records I've ever bought just last month. I was in Chicago and have always wanted to start a record collection so I went to Dave's Records. I've never heard of Osibisa and randomly found it because the album art caught my eye, I pulled it from the crate and when I looked at the inner panel I could feel the energy coming off the vibrant photos of the band jamming out and from the description. I just bought a record player, threw it on, AND MAN I am jamming out. These guys sound AMAZING. Such a lucky find.
I have thousands of vinyl(thousands of cds now, too!) and I love many artists. But this album I've listened to many many many more times than any other. Not The Beatles, nor YES, nor Jean-Luc Ponty, nor Chuck Mangione have I played as often. Ponty's "Imaginary Voyage" and Mangione's "Live At The Hollywood Bowl" would be distant 2nd & 3rd. All three have helped me through many rough times in life. Check out those two exceptional albums also- you'll be thrilled that you did!
BTW: The cover art is by the one & only Roger Dean[YES, URIAH HEEP...many many others]. His daughter did the cover art for Osibisa's last(sadly) studio release in 2009. All new; up to date sound; with only one cover- George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord". Long live Teddy Osei & Osibisa!
I heard this album for the first time I was around 10 years old. It was the first time I hear Stereo with a headphone set and it was total magic something psychedelic even. Still is....
There's no way any human is intelligent enough to jut end a song like that. Don't take me wrong, it's incredible, much deep respect from a music aficionado.
Was Disc jocking in Montreal during 70's and always played this from the beginning at 3am followed by Leonard Cohen "Closing Time" then scrape everyone off the floor and go home. LOL Dam I miss those times !
Daniel Snowden, I hear you my good friend.. I was in high school during those times..(70’s) No terrorists, Tweakers, “nasty weather”, dumbass TV shows like now, mass shootings etc.. ✌️ & ❣️to all
I grew up listening to this. My dad played this during my very young childhood in Angola, Africa. He took the album with him when he came to the states with my Uncle when they went to university for another degree in economics. Brings back warm warm, very warm memories! My father always had great taste in music and the arts! Thanks Ramses (my son, for finding it on youtube and telling me how much he loved listening to it). Weird how full circles come. Meant to be.
+L cornelio (newbeginning) I also grew up listening to this though in Sheffield, Yorkshire. I have my father's, I use to put it on his turntable when they were out of the room as I was forbidden to touch the turntable :)
One my favourite bands of the 70's. They came to New Zealand and played at the Regent. The stage was full of instruments. It was a cold night but they soon warmed us up. It was the best concert I've been to, everyone dancing in their seats and down the aisles.
Wonderfull isn’t it? First thing I thought about, when I listened to a total orher artist (Raja Ram, in his older years a Psytrance producer & dj. He’s wáy up in his seventies now? Tip Records was a label he (and another person?) had. He worked with another dj/producer called Hallucinogen (together they called themselves Shpongle). Just as psychedelic sounding , but more modern. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZYowY7tvBbY.html
Grandiose 👌 Ça fait bientôt 40 ans que j’ai découvert ce groupe plus qu’excellent… Merci pour le partage car trop rare sur les ondes radio voir inexistant et c’est bien dommage
I was living in a mining town in Central Australia then and used to take this album out-bush to listen.......very loud too. Great band, great music and such talent too.
still have the vinyl i bought in Luanda in 1973, carried that over 4 continents. One of the top albums ever, well, 1967-1977 hard to beat as the best decade in music composition and performance.
In 1971 or 1972 the band was in Holland and they gave me the lp Woyaya of which I am still the proud owner. I loved their music then and still do! Thanks for uploading this track. Now I'm gonna look for the first track of that LP on which one of the band members starts talking in an African language whereupon another member says: "We were brother!" Which to me was immensely meaningful then and I wonder if today they would say it again. Anyhow I love the band and its music!!
LOVE IT-GREAT INTRO TO OSIBISA. . One of the very first albums I bought some 4 decades ago-attracted by the exotic cover of winged elephants. Original album long gone-greatful to be able to relive this beautiful music.
Once Upon a Time ..!! Something like 'Osibisa' it's really ..'once - forever' .. Someone have to know THEIR music, have to have 'the sense' for that .. ALL that they have 'made' is connected with LOVE and UNDERSTANDING between people .. between human beings.! And , no matter what, ... IT WILL STAY FOREVER.. that 'thing' , so called - LOVE..!!! thank You so much , TheJPDM , for posting this beutifull song ... greetings , oma - from Bosnia ..!
I saw them at the Forum, in Los Angeles, and if memory serves, they were opening up for 3 Dog Night. They were amazing, and I remember this song, as I went out and got the album, and it sounded better than I had remembered from the concert.
I have this record, since 1971. I read "some" wrote this is their "beginning" works. The Fuc... This is their very 1st Marvelous Unique Awesome work/LP Bunch of kids, That know nothing at all, 🤣🤣🤣😈😈😈🤣🤣🤣 Prof. Omar Nacur 🇱🇧🇱🇧🇱🇧🇱🇧🇱🇧🇱🇧
If you listen close(headphones help-NOT ear buds!), you can hear the band creating the storm sounds!!! It's not a recording of rain & thunder like The Doors used on "Riders On The Storm". That is how talented Osibisa's was! They create rain & thunder using sheet metal(etc) like the real thing! Amazing! This LP was their greatest album(song for song), and I still play the entire record 48 years later a couple times a week!
depends on the earbuds... not all earbuds are bad... take for example these noise-isolating earbuds with rubber/silicon tips, JBL, Koss, Philips SHE series (I think Koss doesn't make these anymore, Rest In Peace, the best pair I've ever had) These little things sound great for 10 dollars, it's like having speakers attached to your head
but yeah, even the best earphones/headphones in the world don't compare to having REAL SPEAKERS at max volume in front of you... you feel the air pushing, you feel the earth shaking, etc... miss that feeling
@@FeelingShred True! But unlike you (I guess) I still have my premier system I built in the late 70's! A receiver that takes 2 men and 4 boys to lift it up; a direct drive turntable; 2 dual-deck cassette recorders; 4 KILLER speakers (2 Sansui + 2 JBL's). I take great pride in the fact I've had police come to my door from complaints about loud music (Up to a MILE away when I lived on a canyon edge!!!) at every single residence I've ever lived at. I still have 2 home RECORDABLE 8-Track players... and, YES, one can still get blank (New!) 8-Track cassettes! Also I have over 3,000 vinyl albums and +/- that many CD's!
@@FeelingShred Bah! I'll take my studio quality Sennheisers over anything else ($450 @ 1980's prices). My Koss Folding Pro's are worthwhile too. Earbuds? Don't be ridiculous! If somethings gonna go into my ears, it better be Charlize Theron's tongue!
@@THE-HammerMan Nice rig... I used to listen to music in a guitar cabinet that had Aux In port, 2 x 12" Speakers, Jensen speakers. Could feel the air pushing. Amazing. Gave me a ringing in the right ear too for quite some time until it has gone away. LOL
why did this group break up? Their Album "Woyaya" is forever etched in my mind, for a good reason-it was the 1st time i operated a turntable! class 4then and my big bro had gone to town and left his precious machine unattended. The big glossy cover with an illustrated flying elephant scared me! (Whicthcraft, Uchawi!). Later on i saw THEM MUSHROOMS trying to do "Adwao" on VOK (Now KBC) TV. Theirs, Mushroom version came out horrible,John couldnt sing!
you just have to do a little digging, they are buried under all the commercial bullshit..... I have the prompting to tell you to check out Ozric Tentacles
