My great grandmother was on the list with her sister. They were the only survivors of their family. Both teen girls survived.

It's one of the great paradoxes of history that if Schindler had not developed a drinking problem, engaged in foreign espionage and become a high status member of the Nazi party, he would never have been put in a position to save anyone. It is because he was so flawed that he was able to do so much good in the end. Truly inspiring

Emillie Schindler his wife wrote her autobiography. The book is called Where Light And Shadow Meet. She wrote it largely because Steven Spielberg who created and directed the iconic movie Schindler’s List completely photoshopped her out of the whole story. Which she was really sad about. And after reading her book myself, about how big of an equal role she played in what Oskar Schindler did in WW2, it’s astonishing that Spielberg erased her. She underwent so much life and death risk to save their Jewish workers. And feed them. Her story should be its own movie. AND fact is, Oskar was a terrible husband. But there was so many lives who depended on them as a couple. So Emillie remained. And barely survived herself. Amazing lady.

schindler is the definition of a real life hero, far from perfect, a playboy, hustler etc etc but when it mattered most he did the right thing

My son would not be here today if his grandfather hadn't have been saved by Schindler. My son is a Rosner. His grandfather, his brothers & sister in laws are depicted in the movie. Not everyone in the family survived & the stories I've been told are horrific. I'm forever grateful for Schindler & the mercy he showed.

His wife's description of Oscar was perhaps perfect. For all his faults he had a big heart, was generous, n willing to help anyone. Perhaps no greater example exists of what even a flawed man can do if he but cares for others.

Poor Emilie Schindler. She actually was not as relieved as this documentary claimed. Although, they also never saw each other again, they never divorced from each other and she chose to never be with anyone and chose never to marry again. In 1993, during the production of the film Schindler's List, Emilie Schindler and a number of surviving Schindler Jews visited her husband's grave in Jerusalem; she was accompanied by Caroline Goodall, the actress who portrayed her in the film. She was documented saying - “At last we meet again ... I have received no answer, my dear, I do not know why you abandoned me ... But what not even your death or my old age can change is that we are still married, this is how we are before God. I have forgiven you everything, everything ...” Schindler lived with her 50 pets for many years in her small house in San Vicente, 40 kilometres south-west of Buenos Aires. She received a small pension from Israel and Germany. Uniformed Argentinian police were posted 24 hours a day to protect her from modern Nazis and other anti-Semitic extremist groups. In July 2001, during a visit to Berlin, Schindler told reporters that it was her "greatest and last wish" to spend her final years in Germany, adding that she had become increasingly homesick. She died at the age of 93 from the effects of a stroke in Märkisch-Oderland Hospital, Strausberg, on the night of 5 October 2001, 2½ weeks before her 94th birthday. Her only relative was a niece in Bavaria. She is buried at the cemetery in Waldkraiburg, Germany, about an hour away from Munich. Her tombstone includes the words from the Mishnah, Sanhedrin 4:5, Wer einen Menschen rettet, rettet die Ganze Welt ("Whoever saves one life, saves the entire world.").

This man is my personal hero, and I don’t care what faults he had. His character was put to the test in the hardest way, he had full opportunity to be selfish and further himself at the expense of others, and instead he gave all he had, making himself destitute to be able to save 1,200 people. This in light of severe consequences to his own life were he not careful. A remarkable person. There’s not many people who can claim to be solely responsible for saving so many, much less at their own expense. Bless Schindler, he not only saved those people from certain death, he forever stands as a bulwark against me losing faith in the better nature of humanity. For that I am eternally thankful. I wish I could have had the honor to shake his hand.

A very strong man, instead of being brainwashed and following the crowds, he had the guts to do what was right. Much respect.

I first watch Schindler's List when I was younger. It was one of the greatest movies I've ever watched. It broke my heart, made me cry, and gave me bride that someone would risk it all for those who needed it in such a way. He was a great man even with all his faults and his wife was just as strong and brave in her own right with everything that had happened.

England has their own Schindler by the name of Sir Nicholas Wiinton who saved and found homes for nearly 500 children. After the war he never told anyone about what he had done but his wife found his scrapbook of photos ,names of both children,families, addresses and letters from parents to their children. There was a show who were informed of him and did all the research on him and the children he saved. The host of the show asked if anyone was saved by him to stand up and get in touch at which moment the whole audience stood up as they were all the children he saved. A movie has been made about him which was released in December 2023. I can't wait to see it.

It feels good to know that during such a dark chapter in human history that there are some individuals who, against all odds, will do the right thing. Mr. Schindler's story gives me courage to stand up for what is right regardless of consequences.

Schlindler was NOT a flawed man. He was just a human that is celebrated for his courage, bravery and selflessness in the face of severe life and death decisions. God Bless this mans memory

He was a survivor who had his own set of values to live by. He played both sides with his intelligent mind. He kept himself safe during war and after till the end. But ultimately the core value he held for human life was never sacrificed to another man's cause. In the end he was a rare human who had the ability to ride the wave and do some good where he was able for as long as he could. He came full circle and lead one of the most incredible lives lived.

Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire. You saved the World 1100 times, Oskar. *R.I.P.*

His humanity shone at the darkest of times, made even brighter coming from such flawed person. May he rest in peace.

Schindlers List - one of the very few movies that brought me to tears at the end when he was leaving his factory and Jewish workers with his gold ring and letters. Incredible story and an incredible man.

My husband’s grandfather worked in the underground in France and was never caught! He won one of the highest medals in France after the war! The stories my husband has been told are harrowing! His one uncle was taken to a labor camp but escaped.

Nobody's perfect but he came through when needed.

When the Gestapo called to the Schindler factory to arrest jews Oskar is said to have got them drunk and on their way after a multiple hour boozing session. I imagine Oskar went drink for drink with the Gestapo agents. So it was a good thing that Oskar was well able to down his booze. As his wife said, he had a good heart.

Oskar Schindler may not be a perfect man but he has a huge a heart. He had a dysfunctional family whose childhood was also troubled. I still admire him for his compassion. I always shed tears everytime I remember watching the film Schindler's list and all about holocaust stories and docuseries. Thanks for this video❤️

The night after I watched the Spielberg movie for the first time, I had a dream that ended with the final scene of the movie, where some of the people he saved and their families placed stones on Schindler's gravestone in remembrance of him. He saved so many more lives than just the ~1200 he is credited with saving.

The problem with condemning him for his early dealings with the Nazis is he most likely wouldn't have been in the position to save the people he saved if he hadn't had those prior dealings with the Nazis. What comes prior to someone being able to perform this kind of act,, saving the individuals he was able to save, is usually what it took to put them in the position to do the deed.

He was human and initially as naive as I'm sure many were at the start of the war. His subsequent good deeds absolutely make up for anything else. No one is perfect but he went far beyond what most of us would do in the circumstances. What a great man.

It is our flaws and mistakes that make us human. And it is our choices that define our character.

Him spending all the fortune he made saving the precious lives he did says it all to me

December 28 2022 Shindler did have a troubled life which was not his fault. But at the end he showed his kindness and his true empathy toward his fellow man. I am sure he received his recognition in heaven. It was a moving story and I’m glad that he got this recognition by Mr Spielberg.

He started out as a self serving person , but courage and morals eventually win the day, a deserving recipient of honour afforded him by Israel 🌻

Flawed people like Oskar, saw the light and found a purpose, instead of indulging himself. he turned to helping people. He found his purpose, his "spark" during that time. Thank God for showing him the right path.

There were many great people who did amazing things during the war, but Oskar saved so many as did Nicholas Winton.

I think he was initially driven by greed but there isn’t enough greed in the world to fill his beautiful heart.

What a fantastic documentary. Thank you so much for either making it and or posting it on RU-vid. I think the story of Schindler is a story of so many great men and women throughout history. Schindler‘s life is further proof that the human story is not black-and-white.. it is filled with murky periods of grey. We are all working with the toolbox that we were handed, from the blank slate handed to us at birth and subsequently written on and imprinted upon throughout our upbringing and surroundings. Schindler is a manifestation of this process, like we all are. He was a great man and he deserves the accolades that he receives.

Thank you for researching and producing this fantastic biography regarding this absolute Mentsh of a human, his unbelievable generosity and compassion is beyond incredible. There really are no words that can encompass this man's chutzpah, or heart with an oceanic capacity for good and a soul so beautiful. His wife tolerated so much and continued to supported him, despite his short comings as a husband. I can only imagine inspired by his tremendous humanity. I am immensely grateful for what they sacrificed to achieve genuinely loving protective asylum amongst unimaginable pure hatred. There are very few people that would step up to the degree they both did.

The important thing for me is that Schindler saved more than 1.000 people in a context of rule of death. This is most important than any other consideration.

Little, if anything, can tarnish his legacy. He was a man with faults. But unlike many who could have done what he did, Schindler rose above the inhuman times and remained human. No small feat at that time.

He had a calling listened to his inner voice used everything he'd amassed to save as many jews as possible.. nobody is perfect, but his awakening was incredible and used all his skill to save as many as he could. Bless him forever

As a young girl learning to read i got hold of the Story if Ann Frank. Just like the ordinary people who tried to help her and her family, Schindler, just a flawed man, showed how much you can do by being compassionate. These are the ordinary people, who cared enough to take a step to help. And in so doing become the great people that they are.

Very Human, but Super human! Ozkar made amends for his past. It's easy to get caught up in the world that' presented to us and surrounds us, but some rise up above the chaos when the hypnosis clears. What a hero Oskar was. The Movie, Schindler's List is one of my all time favorites. I have chills thinking of Oskar's heroism.

Oscar Schindler is the person I have always had the most respect for of ANYONE I have read about..i researched him extensively..he was deeply flawed but many are...The fact of his humanity is what defines the person he truly is. He did everything possible to help those persecuted to keep them alive loosing everything with bribes etc in the process, and dying in obscurity in S America broke...a life well lived. So much respect for this man.

I always enjoy a history lesson. This one was extra enjoyable. We see a man, who wasn’t perfect in any way. He had many issues. After all, he was human. But, Schindler did the right thing. I know, by my own life experiences, that we go through a lot for a reason. As we accumulate life experiences, we’re being prepared for something down the line. If we see what we’ve been prepared for, it’s up to us if we follow through or not. In his case, he was in the position to do something positive if he chose to. I think that’s what happened here. Thank goodness Schindler followed through.

This documentary has given a much greater depth to the film 'Schindler's List'. I will watch it again and again ever more intensely, willing myself to try to feel the pain that millions of people went through during the war years. It seems unlikely, but I wish that behaviours of certain world leaders will never put the world through this again.

God can use anybody to do anything and thus Schindler....the "perfect" candidate to weave in and out of the corruption on the Nazi's and help their victims....Thank you for posting this very valuable documentary.

The story and the movie are so unique. Always remember there are good people in this world.

He was a product of his time. And he chosed to keep his humanity in spite of his position. Not a hero, per se, but a good, flawed and generous human.

He's a good man with many mistakes but still a good man!

Oskar is an example of the complexities of human nature. Full of faults and negative actions yet able to result in being a savior of human life of epic proportions using some of those faults in order to do so. His story proves that no matter the type of life you have lived or actions you have done - you still have the option to use your life for good. To stand up for what is right. Even if only for a short time. Everyone can make a difference when evil and anti humanity actions abound.

If he was an alcoholic and a womanizer that was for himself, he chose to live his life that way, only to himself but when he came to helping humans and he saw what was going on what was being done to humanity. His heart could not take it. He is a true, loving human being may he rest in peace, and never be forgotten

Worth a mention that the Spielberg film was an adaptation of a book by Thomas Keneally. If you really want the detail, this is the best book ever written on the subject.

People like him become famous because what he did was so exceptional, so out of the ordinary, so against the prevailing sentiment of the day

Rest In Peace Schindler you are a true hero

Oskar Schindler has always struck me as proof that everyone, no matter what their shortcomings, is capable of great good. His early and later life story paints him as a not a great person, selfish and a failure. But for a short time, when it was more important than anything else, he rose up to become a hero. And if a drunken. womanizing, douche can do that then there's no excuse for anyone else.

His actions and the lives he saved outweigh any previously questionable deeds.

In some ways it’s because his recklessness (for lack of a better word) that he performed so well in saving Jewish lives, a distinct lack of self preservation that although was obviously crushing to his personal life it produced benefits for vulnerable people on a inspirational level, a great but troubled man, the story of many real life hero’s.

IN HIS LIFE HE REACTED TO THE SITUATIONS HE FACED. WE ALL LEARN AND MATURE AS WE AGE. WE ALL HAVE WEAKNESSES. HE BATTLED HIS, HIS WHOLE LIFE. LET THE GOOD HE DID SURVIVE AND HIS WEAKNESS BE FORGOTTEN!

Great documentary and thank you for sharing. Yes...an imperfect human being with great flaws. Several arrests, heavy drinking and plenty of affairs...YET...this flawed human being underwent some type of spiritual awakening where he chose to respect the lives of others. He even willingly gave up his wealth...and...as far as I am concerned he demonstrated uncommon humanitarian actions. Rest assured this rough diamond outshone everyone else.

Every time I read or watch something that has to do with with this extraordinary person and what he did and risked for those people I always shed a tear or 50. Though not my place to do so, I've been referring to the Man named Osker Schindler as "Saint"Schindler for quite some time now. Although as is known his habits were far from being a Saint, I blame him for none of the other habits except his infidelity's, but for being a man who had nothing to gain (and EVERY thing, to lose...) if I were allowed to let people in to heaven? I would allow him in at least 1200 times. May you 🙏4EVER R.I.P. As "He/She who saves one Life saves 🙌 one life saves the World 🌎 entire". So Rest, St Schindler...

A real human, with faults and heroics...

I know the daughters of a husband and wife who Schindler saved. Joseph and Rebekka Bau, they were featured in the film getting married in Plaszow. Joseph became a famous graphic artist in Israel after the war and his beautiful, remarkable daughters Clila and Hadasa Bau have run a museum of his art and work since his death. They teach people from around the world about the holocaust and the role of their parents and of Schindler. The world would be a poorer place without them. I recommend’Dear God Have you ever gone hungry?’ A book By Joseph Bau and urge anyone travelling to Israel to visit the Joseph bau museum and meet Clila and Hadasa. Truly remarkable humans.

Sadly because of the brokenness of his father, he became the very thing he would not forgive his father from. Yet he, like the rest of us, are not one dimensional. In the midst of his addictions, he did what he knew was right. That is a beautiful thing.

Boy his wife sure had a loving AND forgiving HEART! An angel sent from Heaven.

I have never had a documentary give me goosebumps over and over like this one. He may have had a pretty failure regular life, but he stepped up in a mind blowing way and when provision came he used it to save people who by normal standards shouldn’t have mattered to him.

This is a great documentary that tells what seems to be very much the truth of a man who is troubled and realizes eventually the good within himself and saves hundreds of Jews that would surely have been put to death quite terrible did he couldn’t save thousands more but he saved who he could save and God bless him for that

Schindler was a traumatized and, thus, complicated individual. I think he was vexed by his difficult upbringing and his close relationship with his mother likely was his saving grace. His remarkable acts during WWII saving as many Jews as possible and risking his life and Emily’s was his great good deed and surpasses all of his other acts. Although it doesn’t remove his failures nor the pain he caused others. He was a man, after all, not a god or saint.

oskar schindler was a human being with the usual qualities or what you may call urges and yearnings of a "troubled" human being. But the main feature associated with this man was his feeling for the human beings within his periphery. He did that he could against immense odds. I like Oskar, the philanderer, the drunkard, the cheat and above all the "great humanist" who saved lives

Oscar was a man of is times. Young, impetuous, proud and able. He did what was called for and profited from it. Only to find himself a conundrum of conscience at a time when it was a rare commodity to possess. Something, possessed the man and he knew both humility and kindness... 🙏

Very good narration.Every human being whether good or bad has a worthy period that will give him a place in others soul.

Thank you for your time and research. My great grandparents had numbers tattooed on their arms. I remember asking once, and only once, what the number was for, and i was told it was a part of their lives they wished to not talk about. It was said in a tone that clearly implied that that answer was the only one answer i was going to get. When Shindlers List was aired on ABC on Christmas, commercial free, it was a big deal. My grandpa had to take my great grandparents home before the movie started because my great grandpa refused to watch. I wish i could of got the answers to some of the questions i had; being told theae stories by someone who lived thru it all would of been fascinating

History isn't always cut and dried good and evil. However Schindler was a hero despite his many faults. He didn't have to care little incentive for him to care but still he cared. Not every member of Nazis were evil to the core there were many who were swept up in a current that had no idea what that current entailed.

I think once he realized what was happening he had a very big change of heart and helped how he could.

This is one of the most thought provoking documentaries i have ever listened to. I highly recommend.
