Did you know that Miguel De Cervates, the author of Don Quixote, lost his arm during the Battle of Lepanto? The Crusader Navy, established under the leadership of the Papacy, took action to take back Cyprus from the Ottomans. Miguel De Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote, joined this navy to fight the Turks. During the war, Cervantes was injured by two bullets in his chest and a cannonball hitting his arm, and due to his wound, he lost his left arm. But Cervantes' misfortune did not end with losing his arm. While he was sailing in the Mediterranean with a Spanish ship in 1575, he was captured by Turkish pirates in Africa and sold as a slave in Algeria. After staying in Algeria for five years, he was taken to Istanbul as a slave. While he was about to be sent away, he regained his freedom thanks to the ransom sent by his family.
