I bought this pack when I was in Damascus on the Appalachian Trail. The pack I started with was not fitting properly at this point due to my significant weight loss. A very solid purchase for me. The backpack fit well and very comfortable. If I were to buy again I would have no regrets with Osprey Atmos 65.

I tried this pack on at my local camping store, and I have to say, it felt amazing. I loaded it up and it carried the weight like it was nothing. The pack really hugs your back. I was surprised, because the last version of the Atmos didn't carry weight well at all for me. After that experience I was kinda skeptical of the mesh trampoline style back for hauling heavier loads. But the new Atmos AG has changed my mind. I do have one issue however. When I had the Atmos 65 AG on and I tilted my head back even slightly, my head hit the top of the metal frame. It was very annoying, and a possible deal breaker. I don't know about anyone else, but looking up while hiking is kinda important. I'm a big guy, 6'4" and 230lbs, so I went with the large. The fit was right...it was just this one issue.

A Dude Abroad I had this issue with my head hitting the lid when I looked up, I easily sorted it out by re positioning the lid, I just moved it forward away from my head.

Not a good use of backpack, but had to be honest with you guys. I load the bag weekly with roughly 55lbs of food from Costco. Other than the obvious weight on my leg, there is barely any restriction on my shoulder movement nor my body balance when walking on the snowy sidewalk. It is just like what is said Anti-Gravity.

I'm planning to go on a 4-5 days trip to Prague this winter and I need a decent backpack that can give access to my dslr camera with lens mounted while i'm hiking..I was hesitating between Fstop and Osprey and now after watching your reviews I'd really like to get an Osprey (50-60l)..but any idea which model is better for my needs (if i manage to get a photo insert for example)?!! Thx

The trick is, remove the brain (the detachable top section). Saves some weight and isn't needed if you pack your gear correctly. I have this pack, same orange color. It's the absolute PERFECT pack, I just wish it was 2-3 pounds lighter.

Hi there, any comment for this vs the Exos 48 - More stable but it is heavier ? What are your thoughts... having looked at each... ?
@Enwild
@Enwild 8 лет назад
The Exos is a very stripped down pack that doesn't have many features. The materials are lighter weight and it's not designed to carry as much. It's a great pack for ultralight enthusiasts or thru-hikers. It also doesn't offer the amount of adjustment. The Exos comes in fixed sizes and adjustments can't be made. The Atmos is a much more adjustable pack with more features and versatility, but it is heavier. If you really care about weight, go for the Exos. If you want the best of both worlds, the Atmos is a really great pack.

When the pack is fully loaded, how much stuff could you put in one of the dual zippered front panel pockets? Could you fit a Jetboil flash?
@Enwild
@Enwild 6 лет назад
Thanks for the question. A Jetboil Flash would likely fit inside of one of the front zippered pockets, but the more you pack out the main body, the less space you get inside of those pockets. If you hav ethe pack stuffed to the gills, I'd recommend packing more flexible gear, like an extra layer, in those front pockets and storing the Jetboil Flash in the main compartment.

Hello, I am thinking about buying osprey atoms 65 or osprey aether 60... please which is better and why, or what are the differences between them ? thank you
@Enwild
@Enwild 7 лет назад
Both of these packs are great, but they were designed for slightly different purposes. The Atmos 65 is a much lighter pack with less structure, so it can't handle heavier weights. It's meant for the person who wants a very light, airy backpack that gives a lot of air flow and ventilation. It doesn't have many pockets or access features, so it's a little more minimal. The Aether is a much more robust pack with many more features. You get a much stronger pack, so it can handle weight much better than the Atmos. It also has a more adjustable fit, so almost anyone can get a perfect fit. You'll get more pockets, more features, and better load carrying capacity with the Aether. It comes down to what you want to use the pack for and how much weight you plan to carry. Either one is a great choice.

the atmos seems great! however, there is no side entry or front entry to the main compartiment. Do you think all your stuff is accessible enough with only the top entry ( and maybe the down entry if you remove the divider)? Or do you think that it is rather annoying to reach your stuff from the top? thanks :)
@Enwild
@Enwild 8 лет назад
The access isn't really an issue for the purpose this pack was built for. It's meant for folks who are loading up, hiking from point to point and then setting up camp. For people who like to stop-and-go and access things throughout the hike, this may not be the ideal pack. It does have a few pockets on the exterior for smaller items like filters, first aid, snacks and other things. Overall, we haven't seen any issues with access and even when you've got to dig down inside the pack, it's not that bad due to its moderate capacity.

I just got this backpack used by the person didn't know what size it was exactly. It seems like it's a medium since I have around a 18'' torso and I adjusted the straps to the 2nd from the bottom level. Is there a way to find out exactly what size it is (besides weighing it).
@Enwild

+jerry lui When looking at the suspension system (around 0:23 mark) there is a small black tab on the right hand side where the broad spacer mesh meets the main pack material that will show size and measurement range.

@Enwild
@Enwild 7 лет назад
Thanks for your question! The gray strap in that area is where you can hang a hydration reservoir. The red strap is an extra compression strap, or it can be used to lash a rope to the top of your pack if you're using it for climbing.

@Enwild
@Enwild 8 лет назад
+Tonauac/Teonewhopossesseslight /Nahuatl The Aether and Atmos are very different packs in regard to suspension and in features. The Atmos has the Anti Gravity suspension, and the Aether has a custom fit IsoForm CM hipbelt and harness.

@sipapito 8 лет назад
Thank you for the reply Im 5.8 ,and don't know if I should go for the large atmos as I'm interested in the anti gravity system.any suggestions?
@Enwild
@Enwild 8 лет назад
+Tonauac/Teonewhopossesseslight /Nahuatl Height isn't as important when measuring for a pack. The important measurements you need to consider are mainly your torso length, and second your waist size. These will come into play greatly when sizing any backpacking pack. The Anti-Gravity suspension is very nice and breathable. It's an innovative system that hugs the body very well and promotes air flow. It's not meant to be a heavy load hauler, but it can certainly carry some decent weight.
@carolinaandreaavilesfernan5780
Hello! I have been checking the channel this all week, 'cause I'm researching to find a good backpack for a 5 month trip, and you all have been very helpfull. So far (and mostly thanks to all of you), I already decided that I want an Osprey, but I am struggling between Ariel / Aura / Atmos. In the begining I though about a 55 Lt., but in some store they recomended a 65Lt (I think mostly because they didnt had the Ariel 55 - and here, in Chile, is a bit complicated to find that brand as just 2 store have them). I am looking for one that can allow me to "surf" my backpack easily (and that´s what I like about Ariel), but also that can be for women (I already have a trekking unisex backpack, but it really hurts my shoulders if I walk long distances). I am also very curious about this anti gravity suspension, is it made for men and women? I am petite and I'll be traveling alone, so I am really trying to find a fine backpack that can make my trip more easy. Can you give me some advice? I would be very thankful!
@Enwild
@Enwild 8 лет назад
+Carolina Andrea Avilés Fernández Thank you for your questions. The Aura AG Backpack is the women's specific version of the Atmos AG. They have a shared feature set, and of course both utilize the Anti Gravity Suspension System. We believe the comfort of the pack will come down to how it fits the specific user, similar to fitting hiking boots. The advantage that the Ariel has is the custom fit hipbelt and harness. We would suggest comparing the features each pack provides, and tailor that to what kind of gear you will be using on your long trip.
@carolinaandreaavilesfernan5780
+Backcountry Edge thanks for the answer! i am worried about my height also to pick the right one, as i am... 5'1"? (1,55 mt). Today i was abble to try on the ariel 65 and gregory deva 60. Both felt alright. I found the ariel65 to be big for my height, but very spacious, which may be good (i guess) for a 5 month trip. The deva was comfy and i liked how it was abble to adapt to my back, specially the lower back, but even tho i liked all the organization pockets, it seemed way smaller. What should i consider considering my height? any advice? thanks and hugs from the end Of the world!

The 65 liter version has two front pockets but you're right, there is no front access. We fiind it easy to pack and easy to locate gear because you have the lower sleeping bag access that opens large enough to grab gear toward the middle of the pack.

@Enwild

Thanks for the question. Depending on what else you are packing, a gimbal will definitely fit inside because the Atmos AG 65 is a pretty large pack. Just remember that you'll want to pad it to protect your gear.

How do you adjust the hips?
@Enwild
@Enwild 2 года назад
Hello, Rickm2711 _ thanks for checking in today. To adjust the hips follow the instructions below. Locate the adjustment icon on the hipbelt and slide a hand between the fixed hipbelt and the adjustable pad to separate the hook and loop closure. Slide the adjustable pad into position so that it wraps around your hipbones. Press firmly to re-engage the hook and loop closure. Extend the pads the same distance on both hipbelt wings so the pack weight is distributed evenly. Once adjusted, clip the hipbelt buckle across your hipbones and tighten. Thanks again and see you on the trails.

I have a question. Where can you tuck a bear spray canister on this pack and still be easily accessible?
@Enwild
@Enwild 5 лет назад
The best place for easy access would be one of the stretch pockets along the side of the pack. There is also external storage on the "front" of the pack (the side opposite the harness and belt) that could fit bear spray, but the pack would have to be taken off before accessing it. Thanks for watching!

Atmosphere 65 or Aether 70?
@Enwild
@Enwild 6 лет назад
Thanks for asking. Check out some of the comments and questions below. A lot of folks ask this question and it usually comes down to your base weight. The Aether is designed to carry more weight, and the Atmos is a light pack with a lot of ventilation. See one of our comments from last year: "Both of these packs are great, but they were designed for slightly different purposes. The Atmos 65 is a much lighter pack with less structure, so it can't handle heavier weights like the Aether. It's meant for the person who wants a very light, airy backpack that gives a lot of air flow and ventilation. You get a much stronger pack, so it can handle weight much better than the Atmos. It also has a more adjustable fit, so almost anyone can get a perfect fit with the dofferent size components. You'll get more pockets, more features, and better load carrying capacity with the Aether. It comes down to what you want to use the pack for and how much weight you plan to carry. 👍
