Thanks for the great video! Here's a question I always had regarding this backpack: Can the hipbelt break? I've seen in many youtube videos how the hip belt wraps around the waist. It looks like it's made of some solid material. Doesn't that make the bag vulnerable during transportation?
@BonerButter
@BonerButter 3 года назад
What is the deal with the zippered access to the mesh compartment? ( the zipper is right above the hydration sleeve located inside the main compartment of the bag) It allows access to the mesh compartment that would be facing a hiker's back when the bag is worn. Are we supposed to use this as a storage compartment? If not, why is it accessible?

Thinking about buying this pack since it’s on sale now at REI. How does this compare to the CTUG or the Outdoor Vitals? The problem with getting a disposable suitcase to check-in the pack is that you have to travel back with the same pack, most likely on the same airline. You would need to purchase another Goodwill burner suitcase for the return trip. That can be problematic/expensive and, if travelling internationally, next to impossible. I had a very good experience with Osprey Airporter (medium size) on my trip to New Zealand and carried it through the Te Araroa trail.
@JeremiahStringer
@JeremiahStringer 4 года назад
Very true. I tossed the disposable one after arriving and new it wouldn’t be the end of the world if something got lost or broken on the way home. On the way there is would have been disastrous. I’d love to have everything be small enough to just carry on 😃

I have an Atmos 65 and an Exos 58. I tend to use the Exos more often, the Atmos is mostly for winter overnights where I need to strap gear on the outside too. Mine did come with a rain cover, and a stuff sac. It was an REI special deal. I like them both, they have a similar carry feel, and I love the suspension system. The Exos suspension is not adjustable like the Atmos, but it's also about half the weight. Osprey suggests using baby powder for the squeak, but I found that it wears off after about 200 miles. So I started using graphite in the spots they recommend (the Exos squeaks too). It's been working all season. I rigged up a gravity system with my Versa Flow and a Cnoc Vecto to refill my bladder without removing it from my pack. My Bear Vault 500 fits fine, but I don't carry much haha. My kit is pretty minimal.

If somebody needs a "lid daypack", look into the Aether plus. It's huge though. Or you can look into the 2019, 2020, model of the aether, those earlier models had the daypack. Osprey removed it and switched it for a rain cover, then they released the "Aether Plus" model that includes everything but it is around $340.00 , it's all about business for osprey... I have the same pack and also use it without the brain. My favorite feature besides the comfort of it is the forward facing side pocket access for my water bottles. Makes it a lot easier to reach without taking my pack off. As far as the "squeak", it can drive you crazy. I tried spraying silicone lube on the suspension and pack material but to no avail. I finally figured out that it was coming from the ferrule on the wire frame at the bottom of the pack. I sprayed a dry lubricant in it with a nozzle through the mesh an never heard the squeak again.

Do your 1L bottles ever fallout when you put them in the forward facing side pocket? Great tip on the squeak!!

I'm using the Ozark Trail 65 liter pack. With the brain it came in at 3.68 pounds empty. After cutting the straps down and taking all the metal zipper pulls off and ditching the brain I have it down to about 3 pounds. I reinforced the shoulder straps with extra stitching. I'm looking at a LiteAf pack but for now it does the job just fine.

Yes a bear canister fits very well, even a larger canister, just pack items into the canister and then into the pack, I have no problem fitting large canisters into mine Check out this video, winter load out with bear canister and fits everything in it very well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IOmA-1y4OPo.html

In all transparency I left it at my friend Frankie’s house in Boston. I’m not sure what he did with it. Flew into RI from KY, got picked up, went to his house to repack everything, then headed to the trailhead. Maybe he still uses it 🤷‍♂️

I’ve never had it slip before. Once you have it adjusted to your waist size you normally wouldn’t move it again

Someone on youtube had a problem on his hike that the hip belt came loose, the velco let go. And from what he had said it happened several time on his trip. For this reason I well not buy this backpack. I well look for one the has a sewn on none adjustable hip belt from Osprey
