Great overview, I own the previous model of Kestrel 38 (Velcro harness adjustment) and have only 2 real gripes with it. The fixed brain, and one Osprey owners are very familiar with - hipbelt pocket zippers that are impossible to close smoothly with one hand. My model doesn’t have the adjustable hip belt, but one thing Osprey should change about that is putting the pockets on the movable part of the belt so fat guys like me don’t end up with the pockets almost over our butt cheeks. But like all my other Osprey packs (I own 6 from 24l to 85l) the comfort is off the scale and totally negates how “heavy” they are.

Spot on comments esp. hip pockets. I laughed at the hip pocket design the first time I put it on (have to remove pack to use them). The rest is fantastic though bar the side pocket impractical for all bar tent pegs. All in all, the previous version a great pack though. Possibly better than any other on the market as all have flaws. Ultralights will make you sweat or just shamefully expensive.

I have the Kestrel 58, great pack. Pretty sure that I bought it after one of your videos a year or two ago.

Will a smartphone 6,7" fit in the side pockets on the hip belt? Interested in the 38 liter version.

I have a galaxy S10 and it fits in there easily. The zipper is at least 1 inch/2.5cm longer than my phone. Dont think it would be a problem

Kestrel is great for 38,48L. Do consider the atmos if you're going above 50L

This seems to be the newest version. I see some differences such as adjustable hip belt and different mechanism for adjusting the harness. Do you own the version before this aswell? I recently ordered it and am contemplating returning it for the newer. How is the quality?

Great review. Thank you for the quick overview. Do you find these new shoulder pads/straps comfortable or as comfortable as the previous versions? I've been looking at them but they seem quite rough due to the new pattern and materials . However, I haven't had the chance to test them in real life.

Have the hip waist pockets been increased compared to the previous model? Or are they still the same?
@Enwild
@Enwild 6 месяцев назад
The hip pockets have been increased proportionally to reflect the ever-increasing trend of larger cell phones.

Will a large smartphone 6,7" fit in the side pockets on the hip belt? Interested in the 38 liter version. And the sizes of these pockets differ in backpacks with different displacements?
@Enwild

Osprey has designed the waist belt pockets to fit most cell phones, however, that does not always include the MAx or Pro versions, and while certain phones can fit the "pocket" removal and insertion may be difficult. we'd recommend the usage of something like this www.enwild.com/granite-gear-add-on-pocket.html

does 38L have 2 holes for each side mesh pocket?

Great question! Osprey did keep the dual entry ports on both of the stretch side pockets.
