While I have a mixed opinion on the story, they did a *fantastic* job showing how Soul Calibur is just as manipulative and ruthless as Soul Edge. (And my stance hasn’t changed in 2024. They did a great job portraying the darker side of Soul Calibur)
Soul Calibur was born from a piece of Algol's vengenful and determined soul over his son's death. It will do whatever it takes and even use whoever it takes in order to eradicate the cursed sword.
@@OXex_Reclaier the very will and spirit of Soul Calibur is Elysium (whereas for Soul Edge it’s Inferno). The lore in general, no matter what entry in the franchise we’re talking about, is awesome. You see, when Soul Calibur was forged by Algol, the restlessness and determination in his soul influenced the spirit of Soul Calibur. Therefore the tireless, cold-hearted nature of Soul Calibur ended up being somewhat similar to that of Soul Edge. While the story of Soulcalibur 5 is questionable, they captured this perfectly. They ended up showing that the will of Soul Calibur was super manipulative and that she basically used Patroklos as a puppet to get exactly what she wanted. As for Siegfried’s relationship with Soul Calibur, Elysium’s manipulation over Siegfried probably wouldn’t have been anywhere near as tense because they both hated Soul Edge and wanted to see Soul Edge be destroyed!
Lol, yeah. The Reason I figured Lawful Evil was because it doesn't really bother attacking innocents, but at the same time it desires Order at the expense of certain victims, even if said victim might be innocent.
Ursulet Olivier You could say that Elisyum/Soul Calibur was an extremist, it's intentions were good, but it's actions in trying to carry out said intentions...not so much lol
I think most places actually class it as a very, very extreme Lawful Good. It's intentions are to create a perfect world, by eliminating all evil. It's intentions kind of counterbalance it's extreme course of action and make it unclear.
In soul calibur 4, the victory of Siegfried shows you the story of what happens when Soul Calibur wins: a sterile world stripped of both suffering AND human passion, covered in ice crystals. Elysium also represents this outcome.
If you really think about it, at least in real world there’s so much pain and kidnapped kids, and humans in general being abused and tortured in some freaks hideout, and that’s just 1 type of horror the world is infested with. I think a frozen world is worth saving all those lives from being in pain for 1 more loathsome second. Plus at least the aftermath would look *somewhat* pretty. Sure it would end so many beautiful moments as well but love speaks for itself, the moment can be frozen and love would still exist but real-time excruciating pain and suffering happening in every corner of the planet would cease
Patroklos: Who are you? Answer me! Elysium: i am no one you human's call me the spirit sword Soul Calibur..and the one that created this form....is YOU Patroklos
Every time she says that last part, I always assume that it's because Elysium's athenian outfit makes her look so damn sexy, that she's PISSED off about it. In that case, that makes sense, given a small hint of incest placed carefully in there...
I mean, considering angels are often depicted as beautiful, flawless individuals (note: not always) it's not very surprising. Patroklos likely had childish images of his mother being a perfect angel in the afterlife, and this was the extreme depiction that Soul Calibur is notorious for.
People talk bad about her, but she was actually my fave character, because she actually had Soul Calibur versions of weapons that wouldn't normally be possible, like Tira's and Viola's styles.
If they hadn't had to rush it at the end of development, it could've been an epic of the series. Even the god awful leads could have been rectified with proper development time. Makes me wish they would just cut out this version and remake it with all the time it needed.
its funny how in the end there was no holy sword and that soul calibur was just as evil if not more so than soul edge..because at least soul edge is up front that he wants to fuck you over.
To me, its abit more about soul calibur wanting to simply full fill what is made to do. Humans are just pawns on their board, hence why they gave birth to war and combat. And it certainly is a step up to get to see that perspective, even if the main characters are atrocious, the missions are shit, and the story telling is fanfiction worthy.
Well soul calibur doesn't want to mindlessly slaughter people, just soul edge and its nightmare. It's just that soul caliburs plan and patroklos plans didn't align
if it weren't for the pure stand of this theme i would have quit fighting Elysium a long time ago. this music always gets me ready to jump back into the clash.
Agreed. Looking at the two sides from a narrow viewpoint, you'd just assume Elysium (and the sword she embodies) was this heroic force, but her manipulative, and at points flat-out self-righteous, methods of attaining "balance" could be seen as quite evil, though in a different sense than the overtly villainous Nightmare (and Soul Edge, by proxy).
Soul Edge is merely broken each game, it's not like the pieces are gone, just separated. Also Soul Calibur's true aim never had a good chance to come into light until 4, but even then it was very subtle. Before 5, every wielder unquestionably did as Soul Calibur asked because both hated Soul Edge/Nightmare. 5 is the first game where Soul Calibur's wielder disagrees with it's judgment, with it's wielder not being Nightmare, and Calibur reaction to this shows her true aim.
I'm probably answering my own question here, but screw it. Elysium is the spirit within Soul Calibur (as Inferno is the spirit inside Soul Edge), so I kind of get why they made her a mimic character to kind of reflect the many forms the sword could take. But why is it that when you fight her, Elysium has her own moveset and not everyone elses when you do play as her? I thought it was a badass moveset she had, personally, if a little overpowered...but hey, she *is* the final boss, and this is pretty much God!Sophitia we're talking about, so overpowering is kind of a given. Still, overpoweredness aside, why do away with Elysium's moveset and make her a mimic character when made playable? I dunno, it just seems to me like they watered Elysium down somewhat when they made her an unlockable mimic character (and don't get me started on the fact there's three of them!), instead of an unlockable character with her own moveset.
When you fight her she only uses Omega Pyrrha's moveset rather than switching through all the stances. This is probably because Omega Pyrrha is the closest to Sophitia's original moveset in the previous games as that's the form she takes in the game, or because Pyrrha's normal stance would look dumb with this intimidating battle angel. Curiously enough, when playing as Elysium she only selects female character's move sets while Kilik only uses male. The old man is the only one that potentially uses everyone. Guess Soul Calibur is a little picky with its owners. Of course she's obviously the best 'mimic' character because she has her own unique critical edge which is probably among the best of all the characters in the game.
Well Guess What They don't need to be Mimic Characters anymore Because Kilik needs to go Back to using His Bo and Appear as Random Computer Opponents in Arcade Survivor Time Attack Team Battle Mode And Those again same goes for Cervantes De Leon and Edge Master Algol Can appear as of the Computer Opponent in Modes Edge Master can Have That Swrod as His Main Weapon He holds in His Character Icon Selection Portrait It can be His Main Weapon in Gameplay His Fighting Style Stance Can be like Shujinko's from Mortal Kombat Deception and Mortal Kombat Armageddon Infeirum can be Based on Satan Lucifer His Weapon can be A Pitchfork just like The Devil uses in Real Life Charade can have a Attitude Appearance Similar to Ganondorf from The Legend Of Zelda Series and Super Smash Brothers Series He can have a American and Japanese Voice Actor Elysium can haver Her Own Weapons it can be the same as Pit's and Dark Pit's Her Fighting Style Stance can be just like Theres in Super Smash Brothers Series Remember No More Mimic Characters.
+Jonathan Hirst She uses Omega Pyrrha's moveset. That's the game's attempt to make her look more like Sophitia. In Versus Mode, she doesn't give a shit.
Yes. Soul Edge kills for chaotic fun, but Soul Calibur is fighting to create and defend HER order, not humanity's. She doesn't care about how how human's feel about her rule, only that they do as her "holy order" says. It's no different then an absolute monarchy. Human's are, as far as both swords are concerned, nothing but pawns to wage their war with.
Don't forget taking Patroklos into that utopia where she elected to take over his body to kill Pyrrha, thus removing any sense of free will from him and making him solely her puppet.
Wish Cervantes De Leon Alpha Elysium Platinum Omega Kilik Edge Master Algol and Zasalamel appear as Random Computer Opponents in All Modes Like Raphael Sorel Hwang Sung Kyung Olcadan Chester Hotchkiss Tira Maxi Dimot Patroklos Architecture Sophitia Archuleta Heishiroe Mitsurugi Lawurence Dampierre Viola Zwei Voldo Xiba Seong Myeong Astaroth Yamoguchie Aeon Calcos Isabella Valentine Siegfried Schtauffen Hildegard Von Krone Charline Xianghua and Natsu does in Soul Calibur 5 While Nightmare appears as The Final Boss at Stage 10 in Soul Calibur 5
When I heard this song for the first time in story mode, and Sophitia's theme from SC1 came up, I was just, ugh. It made me want to destroy Elysium so badly, bit by bit. Music can evoke very powerful emotions, especially when used like that in a narrative.
As much as the story mode sucked, I think this is the best Soulcalibur game yet. Its mostly balanced, friendly to newcomers, AMAZING character creation, and a great cast of characters to choose from (I don't care that most of the classics haven't returned, it adds variety)
Umm, let's see. -Offered Soul Calibur, only to take it away when Patrokolas didn't do what she wanted him to -Offered to cure Phyrra, only to reveal that Elysium wanted to kill her -Manipulated Patrokolas' feelings for his mother and sister in order to get him to do what she wanted Sounds like hefty betrayal to me. Some ally. And Nightmare isn't even the main villain. :\
Marvelous theme fitting the once thought benevolent force of good turning out to be as evil as the big bad BUT! the problem of having Elysium as such a lame boss, let´s hope Namco brings an angelic abomination monster when they decide to throw Elysium at us in their rebooted story.
What I think a lot of people don't get is that Soul Calibur is not the good version of Soul Edge. Both are incredibly dark and powerful weapons that hunger for the destruction of one another, even going so far as to take control of the wielder to destroy the weapon.
Siegfried became nightmare, Raphael got a cheap shot on nightmare piercing it's eye. Siegfried got free and a piece became soul caliber due to a fragment of algols will. Siegfried wields soul caliber and soul edge is a angry spirit looking for its potentially best host. they clash I'm the forsaken sanctuary where they both are confirmed to have killed each other taking the fight to another realm. years pass and the fight carries on with Siegfried coming back with soul caliber which is keeping him alive hence the crystal armor and nightmare who has become more mutated but being away from a suitable host for so long has become to weak to continue existing so both Duke it out one last time with SC winning. or so we thought. what I've gathered on the story.
I dont give a fuck what "the community" says about Elysium, she's awesome and her theme is fucking epic, I hope she comes back in Soul Calibur VI. It was about time they gave Soul Calibur a good treatment and a rest to fucking overrated Nightmare/Soul Edge....after all the game name's Soul Calibur NOT Soul Edge...that was the first game.
Huh, that certainly explains a lot. I've played every game but the first, but I could never figure it out. I also can't figure out why, if soul edge is continuously shattered, how it keeps reforming.
I agree here. If nightmare we really the true Nightmare we know, Patroka-idfc and Phyrra would be dead. and then nightmare and seigfried would fight a-fucking-gain. and then someone would fuckin die. Notice my use of the word Fuck.
Okay dude....there actually was build up from four. If you played four then you will see where Soul Calibur tried to control Sophitia or Cassandra *can't remember who, so shut it*, and in five it was made clear when Patrokolas did initially do as first told in killing her he was stuck in another realm where Edge Master might of eluded that the sword may of been controlling him. So when he tried to escape the sword didn't want to be pulled out. Check your facts again before talking.
Everyone gives this fight a ton of shit, but i don't see the problem. Sure its hard, but... Fuck that, its a fighting game. I dont like her personally, but i thought the fight was well made, and good. Nightmare, he should have played a bigger role in my opinion, other than being a gateway to phyrra's madness.
Elysium is like sophitia but he's all the weapons of the girls but I don't like Elysium because he s have random weapons 😑is ok then but I love the the song
Thank god i finish the story mode and i get phrrya omega and elysium!!!! But the arcade mode changed when u finished the story mode. The sixth boss is still elysium!!! WHAT THE F$:! I DONT GIVE DIS SHIT DA F$/$ MAN!!!
