Isn't the depression caused because a person is very sad that their health keeps them from enjoying life? Any debilitating condition would cause depression, seems like to me.

...and the fact the condition gets progressively worse overtime- more painful and debilitating. That's the reason early diagnosis and prescribing treatment to manage the disease are important to prevent permanent damage to the joints. Exercising (even when there is discomfort) is critical to better health.

I was misdiagnosed with depression for seven years. My advice is when seeking a second opinion, as I did, many times all my life until age 36, don't be honest and confide to doctors that you have seen other doctors who misdiagnosed you. I was labelled as anxious. No f.. I lost my job, my career, my relationship, my friends I had excruciating pain, bursitis,pleurisy, and I was medicated and told to stop being lazy by treating doctors I was paying. It wasn't until a fill in temp doc looked at my twenty plus history that she sent me to a specialist. My psych wanted to use elect shock therapy on my brain as my 'depression' was not responding to 'treatment'. At the end I am living in poverty and disabled as my Ra was found too late and is too aggressive.wasted life.

I have been diagnosed with moderate/severe RA and for ten years my RA has been ASSYMETRICAL and migratory, so symmetry is not a factor between the two

Good point to learn. Thank you for letting us know. Anyway all of the symptoms and signs don't work for all the patients of the same disease, actually those are seen in majority thus recorded. There can be exceptions and alterations.

I was diagnosed with RA and I too have ASYMMETRICAL flare-ups. My flare-ups "hop" from one side to the other side of my body.

very informative! I do have OA but am not an old person nor do I over use it I don't have RA, however, I do have fibro and a few of fibro symptoms can make it look like RA based on what you said. This info is fascinating.

You've been tested for FM? I ask, because I was initially diagnosed with FM, already had both RA (sero+) and OA, but more tests, (as the FM presented further complication) revealed I also had Lupus. All four have interconnecting symptoms.

I am confused. I got diagnosed with peripheral polyarthritis, mainly for my right knee and ankle, but from this it looks more like osteoarthritis, while RA is what I feel on the upper limbs (although it is always painful, morning included).

During the diagnosis of RA it's important to note that in the beginning stages pain may NOT necessarily be symmetrical, although later on symmetry will develop.

Thank you for clearing that out. Because I’m not symmetrical (though seems like it’s starting to become so slowly) and I do t have morning stiffness as well, nor fever, but I do get cysts and most other symptoms fit as well - but same goes for the other one. Is it possible to have both? I’m having lots of noises coming from my joints/bones. Either way it’s very painful and I’m tired all the time, can’t do much.

I have RA and I cannot understand why the literature spreads the myth about the DIP being spared in RA. I have RA in my DIP joints and lots of people in RA forums do too.

I have RA....you need to make sure that you mane a very IMPORTANT distinction... my pain is not symmetrical. I've had injuries and because of that I have pain on one side more than the other... and because my pain doesn't really get better a lot my Dr just doesn't give credit to much that I have to say. Doctors can be very insensitive.

It is a good one of a kind product for curing arthritis minus the hard work. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my friend finally got great success with it.

This notion that RA is symmetrical in early presentation is what has unfortunately led many Drs to discount a diagnosis of RA in people who have then gone on to suffer very badly as a result. RA can, and often does, present asymmetrically

I have both RA and Osteo have been diagnosed over 40 years ago while working in a refrigerated area the RA is hereditary after l retired had two knee replacements If you take your medications you can live a good life now in my later years one hand gets very stiff l blame that on use of computer and cell phone Occasionally in bad rainy weather l will get a bursitis attack on one shoulder I have lived a good life did a strenuous job until retirement age and like the bunny I’m still going it’s all in listening to your doctor take your meds and get out and walk or exercise

I was diagnosed with moderate/severe RA at 28 for me it's symmetrical if one hurts the other one does as well, its normally after lunch time before the stiffness has went away. Its in my feet and toes, my fingers and wrists, and my knees. I also deal with flare ups from gout but I cant control it with proper dieting. When I do have a flare up my entire body is fevered my joints glow red and moving them is almost obsolete. Worst thing in the world for me still is when someone says well I have arthritis too. No you don't you may have osteoarthritis but your immune system is not trying to destroy the fabric of your body.

I will say that the diagnosis was terrifying and it's been a long time fear of mine bc of the little bit I saw in passing of other sufferers. I think I have a lot more to learn about it as well bc I don't truly understand what this means. Hower a short video I was just looking at brought to my attention that my heart issues and things like excessive sweating is not just a case of bad luck with multiple issues but it is all the same thing as my body is going through hell . I have been on hydrochloroquone or how ever it is spelt. I do not remember it like I should be but it is something that I have been doing a lot better with not missing the dose but I can't see it helping. In fact I have been getting a lot worse. Weight gain is apparently not the norm but I have PCOS and then I have been doing less and less working as it is not easy for me to do much on most days. My breathing is not good and I don't have any relief from Albuterol I've tried when I was around my mom who is on it. I get chest pain that is going to be more of a issue with longer amount of lying on my back . What is the best way to make sure I have a good shot at slowing down the process and feel like it is not completely stopping my existence m

Good overall however, the statement about timing is incorrect. In OA, morning stiffness is a common symptom of OA. This stiffness usually resolves within 30 minutes of rising, but it may recur throughout the day during periods of inactivity. In RA, morning stiffness may also be present but persists for much longer.

RA, you may have noticed, is very weather affected. Even on hot days, a build up of clouds, never mind a downpour, will trigger a flare. If it's overcast or raining a day there's little, if any relief in symptoms. I, personally, think morning problems are due to the joints having had too little movement throughout sleep.

Yes, I have been reviewing for my NCLEX and I also read that both have morning stiffness, the big takeaway is that RA will benefit a lot more from moderate activity over time than OA which might only get worse with more activity(though keeping immobile for a few days is bad for both)

This was quite good! For myself, I'm still trying to figure it out. I've been to the doctor several times, thinking it was RA, but confused because I get flare ups, and illness once in awhile. He doesn't seem to be convinced. My whole body will ache, all my joints, head to toe. But on a daily basis, some of my joints swell, some don't, some ache, some don't. Usually it's "old injury" joints. My knees have grinded since highschool! Weight or no weight-my body feels the same. Mornings are ALWAYS difficult and stiff! 😕...😌I just try to keep moving forward!

I keep reading the symptoms of RA are this and that. I was diagnosed with a high RF so the doctor is saying I have RA, but my symptoms seem to be slightly different. It suddenly started one evening 3 months ago. Was fine and came home one day after work and bang, pain on inner elbow bone. And it seems to be attacking my whole body inside and out. Severely bad headaches, locking up joints and muscles. But mine always starts up in the evening getting worse throughout the night. Making it almost impossible to sleep most nights and by morning the pains and swelling start subsiding. Even affects my eyes and finger tips. Just recently started on my neck and spine...I need help. I was an active 47 yr old don’t eat red meat or pork or use dairy products for almost 9 years now. Mostly plant based diet...juices and smoothies etc. this feels like a someone just flipped a switch and turned this on! It’s not normal and to already start deforming my thumb joints after only a few weeks is scary!!!

I was diagnosed with both plus dystonia at 40 yrs old it has effected my lungs oesophagus and other problems too many to list I am still not on treatment for it because they don’t know how to treat me I have a lot of pain relief but is no longer working the pain is beyond belief I can’t cope with this much longer I have no quality of life

Get her to see a rheumatologist. They'll do tests...usually x-rays to start, then go from there. It's a progressive disease, which means it gets worse as time goes on, so the sooner she's seen the sooner it can be treated and the less damage is done.

What medicine is Loxoprofen? Loxoprofen is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAID) indicated for pain and inflammation related to musculoskeletal and joint disorders. In addition to its effects on pain, it is an antipyretic and anti-inflammatory medication. And I’m taking this for already a year now…and I’m afraid it would have any sides effect, so i have to stop again to work for awhile…may e one months. I work as a maintenance cleaner and my age is 50’s since I’m alone i have to work to pay my bills and my Doctor prescribe me this so I can work…

I have both RA and OA... I took methotrexate once a week then they switch me to Enbrel when it started to affect my liver. Then the Enbrel stop working. Then my rheumy dr put me on Humira twice a month injections and that was amazing, but then I was diagnosed with breast cancer so I had to stop. Now we're going to try Rituximab injections. Hoping that will help with the inflammation and discomfort.

I have been having thumb pains and twinges in my wrists. No stiffness. Could this be arthritis?

Maybe, but it could also be, among other things, Carpal Tunnel...inflammattion, thickening or both of a band that crosses over the wrist, which puts pressure on the nerves, causing pain on the wrist joint, leading, sometimes, to tingling, numbness or pain in the fingers. It's worth having it checked out.

Yup. Definitely possible. My professor actually has both OA and RA and has had both knees replaced before 50. But, you definitely need to go see a doctor to get diagnosed.

From your explanation, why am I feeling like I have both? But I mean.. my doctor said I have RA and then when I went to another doctor he said I have OA..

Similar story. Blood panel shows positive results for RA, further blood work indicates that was a "false positive" while I have chronic fevers without any clear cause and no other symptoms of infection plus my WBC counts are always elevated (and by _"always"_ I mean that in 7 years worth of blood work analysis my WBC count is *ALWAYS* above even the highest reference levels, whether I have a fever or not). The pain management specialist I just started seeing, sees signs of OA in my neck and spine via my MRI records. I'm not, old either (profile pic is representative of how I look now), but I've already been dealing with progressively worsening symptoms with no OTC relief. Tylenol, Advil other meds don't work only relief so far is from steroid injections and one round lasts for around a month. Doctors only started taking me seriously after pushibg for an MRI for nearly a decade. When the results came in they changed tact offering PT and other options for pain management still in disbelief that my joints would be this far along while also arguing that I shouldn't be in pain due to the "low severity" of joint and bone deterioration throughout my spine. Seems like doctors play doctor where I live, but I suppose a diagnosis is more of an opinion. While I keep wanting to think doctors know more than me (especially given the amount of time they need to be educated to become an M.D.) it seems that most of the ones I've seen, don't know much of anything. It is frustrating especially when it impacts life so much. Tried telling the doctors my medical history, but they only believe it, if they have a record of it. Building up a new record of my health still leaves them baffled as to how my joints are so screwed up even though they mostly look fine externally.

A 30yrs female patient show symptoms /flares only occurs once or twice a year since last 4 years. But faces daily pain in the entire leg while asleep.And faces numbness and tingling sensation on sleep. And difficulty in walking barefooted . What would happen if left untreated for years ? Also Suggest the medicine and dosage of drugs to be given.

Your comment are not accurate. I have joint damage from RA mine was nerver sysmemtrily. Everyone is not the the same. The stages are different for everyone. You can t say it happens in this order, because it DONT.

A few of us agree on that. Most of my RA began on my left side, then to my right. My right hip played up for a couple of days, disappeared and two years later got to work on my left hip, but never returned to my right.

I have BAD OA in my Rt. Knee. If I lay still in bed sleeping I will wake up and Bang get a stabbing pain in my knee when I first put it in motion. So much for your AM no pain idea honey.
