That young man is such a brave soul sitting so chill with a broken wrist, I wish him all the best.

A lot of parents of kids with OI get accused of child abuse because of the healed or healing fractures on x-ray, if they aren't known to have it they're in for a rough time

My family was investigated three times. The last time I was when I was nearly 17. I know of someone who had their 6 week old infant taken away. It's absolute madness.

this is very true. A lot of doctors i have seen will have my parents step out of the room so they can ask me about it and i just have to explain to them what i have

He probably has type 1. OI is not the not the lack of calcium but the lack of collagen! I have type 2/3. Type 2 is the most lethal, whereas type 1 sometimes don't know they have OI.

I too have the same I guess. Lack of collagen not calcium

I had a friend in high school who had osteogenesis imperfecta. It was passed down from her dad. Now she has twins, both of whom have it.

Haven’t watched the whole video yet, but thanks for sharing this. I saw an interview with someone with osteogenesis imperfecta on SBSK and I’ve been curious about the clinical care ever since.

I recently did a short video about a young SFX makeup artist with Osteogenesis Imperfecta called "My Superpower." The video explores Tiffany’s life with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease) and some of the characters she has created, which draw inspiration from her own life and experiences.

What an absolutely beautiful boy!!! I was actually shocked to see how good he looked, as I have only encountered one patient that had it at birth. I worked in the nursery in a small rural hospital, and also in the pediatric office. Last time I saw this “baby” he was 16.

Me too have blue sclera and I have osteogenisis imperfecta . I undergo frequent bone breaks when slipped or fell :') I have broken my arms more than 12 times , my legs like 2 or 3 times ( I can't remember the exact no of leg breaks ) And Im now 20 yrs old and still breaking bones even with a easy hit. My bones are weak than normal ppl. My mother too have this condition and non of our family members have it. She too breaks her bones regularly :')

This would be a tough one to catch in the ER. Labs would probably be normal, presentation not optimal, but a good history would be the clue, I think. Is this what pointed you towards this? Well done, nonetheless.

These rare genetic disorders are relatively common in our country due to consanguinity.
