Don’t knock it until you try it!! OMM has helped my Fibromyalgia where prescribed drugs did not. 1000% recommended 👌🙌👍 Fibromyalgia will never go away, but I have been in a much better pain free situation since being diagnosed 5 yrs ago. OMM has helped to calm my nervous system, which is always on fire. I am extremely grateful for my DO 🙏

The chiropractor does more sudden bone cracking in his therapy, while the osteopath does more of a slow approach, stretching the joints more than cracking them. Also, the osteopath can use medicine and surgery as part of his practice. The chiropractor is more inclined to thumb his nose at medicine and surgery, though he has come a long way and today is a bit more accepting of both.
@tybera1114
@tybera1114 4 года назад
If your chiropractor is thumbing his nose at medicine, you need to find a new one. Chiropractors that are practicing without imaging are either old or just trying to take your money. There are many physicians and even ortho surgeons who will recommend good chiropractors for adjustments, and send your images over to them to help you avoid surgery. There are many Chiropractors that do DC rotations in hospitals and are beginning to have a greater presence in hospitals today to reduce patient risk. But DCs do not learn medicine. DOs do. OMM and OMT is just another tool in their medical tool belt to help patients. Example of collaborative chiropractors in NY. nyuwinthrop.org/services/chiropractic-collaboration/
@tybera1114
@tybera1114 4 года назад
@rambo rando They all practice differently. So it really depends on what your needs are. If you have horrible back pain, talking with a DO who practices as primary care physician about getting referrals to avoid surgery would be the way to go. Osteopaths or DOs are first and foremost board certified medical physicians in the US. There are DOs in every medical specialty in this country, from family medicine, to orthopedic surgery. They just have OMM in their tool belt. I think starting there for whatever case you have would be the best move. I did my undergrad at a chiropractic school, and they certainly did not snub their noses at using radiology, imaging, and talking with PCPs to help patients. I attended a few talks and conferences about how to effectively use and implement imaging into the practice.

Can you tell me what to expect with a DO first appointment? I'm leaving a traditional MD/NP office because they don't know how to listen to the patient, nor do they attempt to figure out what's actually going on with someone. I recently learned I have a very serious illness overlooked, (undiagnosed and untreated for years), now I'm dealing with COMPLICATIONS because they were too lazy to TRY to figure out what was going on with me. I was only allowed to tell them ONE SYMPTOM I was having, per appointment. I believe all symptoms combined paint a better picture of what's going on with someone, as opposed to only one symptom at a time....a managed health nightmare. I had to tell my NP that if I didn't get answers, I was going to Mayo Clinic. All the sudden she orders some labs, and we found out I have an AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER, that explains every single thing I've been going to her for since 2009. I've suffered so long, it's been hell, and it's cost me LOTS OF INCOME!!! It's time for a change, hopefully my new DO will look at me as a whole person, not just one part/symptom per visit. Anyone else get blown off by primary care doc or NP and get treated like this?

Yes, most of the doctors in the gov sector treat patients like guinea-pigs. They are either young inexperienced or old but only interested in research for personal academic gain. When they referred me to physiotherapy, all I got from the therapists were advices to do some exercises at home. When I asked the doctors for referral to chiropractor, I was told that chiropractic treatments have no scientific evidence and are not recognised in my developed country. Why?

I would look at the reviews for the doctor you're interested in, and perhaps ask about their approach/methodology.

Your experience is not uncommon. It’s both the fault of the physician and the system which makes it difficult to give each patient the time they need for adequate examination. Unfortunately, I’ve seen this happen too often.

How similar is osteopathic cranial therapy to what some chiropractors call SOT (sacral occipital therapy). Are they two entirely different approaches or similar?
@shrimsharma4565
@shrimsharma4565 Год назад
Cranial sacral therapy in itself is a treatment where the focus is on the harmonisation of entire spine by placing your hand on sacrum and occipital. It enhances the function of dural tube , CSF and has many more beneficial effects in osteopathy.

OMM has saved my life. I was in more pain than I could deal with from Trigeminal Neuralgia. It also has helped with issues after brain surgery. I have had an amazing Doctor's. I can touch my head now, and can sleep with a special pillow. It also has helped my fibromyalgia and neck issues. After seeing various private practice doctors, I am blessed to see an amazing do tor at Midwestern University in Peoria Arizona. My husband is being treated for pain related to ankylosing spondylitis. They are helping him keep as much motion as possible surrounding the fused bones.

Hi What is the link between the physiotherapy and the osteopathy?
@Blueskies7775
@Blueskies7775 2 года назад
Physiotherapy typically assess and treat the body in parts or sections, according you where the patient feels pain or has an injury. Plus they typically use machines, exercises and stretching in the appointment to treat the painful area. Osteopathy is a more wholistic approach, the palpating in Osteopathy is very minute and specific, and the goal is to integrate the entire body's systems to work better together to promote healing...rather than chasing the pain or treating the body in sections. Osteopaths generally do not use machines or other equipment, they rely on their hands to do the listening. Hope that made sense.

Physiotherapists are not trained medical doctors. DOs are trained in medicine and OMM. You can go to a DO with a sinus infection and they can prescribe you antibiotics. They can also use OMM to give you temporary relief.

This is more like massage treatment to me except that they are considered to be doctors because of longer schooling
@emberlite
@emberlite 3 года назад
It's not just "longer schooling." They learn what "normal" physicians (MDs) learn as well. It's all the same information. DOs tend to think of the body more holistically than how MDs are taught, however, there has been a movement in the MD field where some have began to see the body as a whole as well, instead of hyperfocusing on symptoms. In reality, if you went for a doctor's visit, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two since their schooling is practically the same, minus the OMM that DOs learn which I consider a bonus.

No. DO's go to medical school for 4 years and do residency afterwards just like MD's. They are fully licensed to prescribe medications. They can enter the same specialties as MD's (ENT, ortho, cardiology, family medicine, plastics, etc.). They are equal to MD's but have extra training in OMM. DO's work everywhere. Hospitals, outpatient clinics, ER's, etc. They're both physicians. Chiropractors are not physicians. The hierarchy (in terms of education): chiropractors< DO = MD

DOs are trained in Medicine, they go through the same curriculum as MDs. They have to do 4 years of post graduate medical education then they have to match into the same residencies as MDs and complete residency. For example Dr. Lee did a Residency in Family Medicine which is 3 years. She is a board certified Family Medicine Physician. This makes her a "Doctor" yes that kind of "Doctor".
