Oster 616 Whisper, Oster Fast Feed modification teaser :-) 

Anonym Anonym Thanks for the "First like, first sub and first comment" on my first video :-) I completely agree about the Oster service, I've emailed them in the past and have never received a reply, I've given up, they must have enough money already! They do make some great clippers though. I'm sure you'll like the 616, as I said in the video, they aren't the most powerful clipper but they are just as powerful as the Fast Feeds. Also, I meant to say in the vid that the number 1 detachable blade is great for clipper over comb work and also, by angling it so the tips of the cutting blade run across the comb, great for blending. I mostly use the Supra ZR in the shop for the majority of my work now but the 616 is a great addition to your kit. I'll try and make an 'in use' video but I've just moved to a new area and only opened 2 months ago after selling my old shop after 20 years! Starting to build a customer base from scratch is 'interesting' but I don't feel I know any of my new clients well enough to ask them to sit for a video yet. Next time I cut my son's hair (he's 2) i'll have a go. As regard to the converter for the fast feeds, if you mean Larry the barbermans one, I don't know having never tried it, but I have read of a few people saying it didn't work for them. Having said that, there are lot's that say it does so they are probably doing something wrong. I'm guessing. The thing is, I'd rather not go to the trouble of using it so found a work around myself which i'll post on Friday. Don't hold your breath though, it's a one off and will be useless to most people, although quite interesting in a geeky way. Thanks again Jon

We are in the year 2019, I have not heard and seen anymore videos about oster 616 and 606 pro-power clippers currently...what is happening?

OK, got my 616 today. Blades 0000 and 000 have same footprint and will accept Andis double magnet guards. Blade 1 footprint is larger and it won't accept magnet guards.

Hi Sergey, thanks for the comment. I feel it cuts too short to be an animal blade as it cuts to about a number 1 (3.2mm). It's used for keeping the waves in afro hair when cutting 'with the grain'. I've used it a few times with a high fade and very short on top, to do just that and it's great.

Delighted to get a reply. Officially 616 comes with 4 optional blades, 2 of which come together with the machine. Now 616 has it’s twin model called Pilot for pets, which replaced the previous model called Mark II, also known as Lucky Dog, which was also for pets. Mechanically all 3 are absolutely same models, the difference is only in available blades, which are of course interchangeable, so people ignore that Pilot and Mark II / Lucky Dog are for pets and just use them on people :) Now the skip-tooth blade was available for Pilot and Mark II / Lucky Dog but it will work for 616 without any problem since mechanically they are exactly the same products with 616. Skip tooth blade Oster 78913-646 was positioned only for grooming of pets. Google for “Oster 78913-646” and you will find the skip-tooth blade that you have. Pet versions of 616 were available with 5 blades: 78913-616 fine, 78913-626 1.5mm medium, 78913-636 3mm coarse, 78913-646 5mm skip tooth and 78913-565 poodle blade. All 5 are completely flat from the bottom. 4 official human blades are now re-released in “black” colour cryogenic versions. Now there is another human twin version for 616, called ISIS clipper. And it looks like same skip tooth pet blades were adopted as human “texturing” blades for ISIS. Part number 76914-926 in black cryonix version and stainless steel version 76914-726 with word “lacing” on it. Those skip tooth human blades are indistinguishable from pet blades... :) Do you remember how you’ve got your skip tooth blade?

Well, I definitely do not have a spare 616 for parts :) If I may another question: I want to buy something like Fast Feed for home use (I have relatively thick and stubborn hair, therefore, cutting with 20 euros devices usually is a form of an endurance competition). I look at Oster because of their "long lasting devices" reputation. Basically I do not want to buy another device in coming 10 years. From what you say I understand that 606 is very similar to Fast Feed but also available for European market. Thus the question: will 606 work for me?

@@experiments1899 Hi there, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I've been away on holiday. Personally I wouldn't recommend the 606 or 616 for thick hair (or the Fast Feeds actually). I only really use mine on fine to medium, or children's hair. It all depends on what you want to spend and also the type of cut you want to give yourself... If money is no object then I would suggest an Andis Supra ZR with the appropriate blade or for something cheaper and more flexible the Wahl cordless Magic Clip is a superb clipper with it's 'crunch' blade for medium to thick hair. It would last a good while and cope easily. It's more flexible as the attachment guard are cheap and readily available (Wahl Premium Guards). Cutting your own hair with a cordless clipper is so much easier and it's what I use to do mine. As with all clippers, a couple of drops of clipper oil on the blade before and after each cut is vital (run for a few seconds and wipe off before the cut, leave on after) if you only use them every now and again. Having read that back I would actually recommend the Magic Clips over the Supra ZR as they would easily last the time you suggest IF you look after them properly and the Supras are maybe a little overkill. oh, and the Magic Clips can be used with or without the a cable. That would be my advice my friend. Jon
