In this video, we take a closer look at Ostrava, a city in the northeast of the Czech Republic that is often overlooked by tourists in favour of Prague.
However, Ostrava has much to offer, from its rich industrial heritage to its vibrant cultural scene.
We'll compare and contrast Ostrava with Prague, highlighting the advantages of choosing Ostrava as your next destination. We'll also provide tips on how to make the most of your visit, including where to stay, what to eat, and what to see and do.
Whether you're a budget traveller, a history buff, or simply looking for a more peaceful and authentic experience, Ostrava might just be the perfect destination for you.
Quick About us:
Holly👩 and I (Sean🧑) decided to travel in many ways. With the task of balancing the love for travel✈️ and the cost of it💰. We will show you how to do this yourself!
We met in Scotland, where Holly lives and I worked in a hostel. Then we travelled around Scotland together whenever we found time.
Then moved on to small trips in Europe, when we had days off work together. Flying on a Friday, back on Sunday kind of thing.
We decided to take it seriously, so we save up enough for 3 months travelling Europe, quit our jobs and haven't looked back.
Currently, the fact we have no income is a problem.

You asked the question, "what was the strangest thing you found in your hotel room?" Well, once working in Carrickfergus, I checked in to find a poor chap already asleep in the bed. On the plus side, on returning to reception, I got upgraded to a suite. Funnily enough he looked like the Shining poster as well 😁

Sadly Ostrava city center is a pretty dead place since the big mall you visited opened. You still have some great cafés and the nightlife is great, with some really amazing pubs clubs and restaurants. Stodolní is famous for its nightlife! Poruba is an area where there is a bit more people around (usually) thanks to it being where the big university is. Its quite far from the city center, like 25 minutes or so with the trams. There is some good museums and so on and the city is in a brutal industrial way kinda pretty. It's not the greatest tourist place sadly, but its better during the Colours of Ostrava festival. For tourists looking for a "better" Prague I would probably recommend Brno for a more traditionally beautiful city with great atmosphere or if you have a bit more money Karlovy Vary which is an amazingly beautiful place! But holy crap is it expensive. Great video and gonna look through the rest of your videos!

Thank you for the comment, I'm sure someone who finds this video, will also find the comment super helpful. The Mall is really big and you can see it has taken the life out of the street which is kinda sad. We were originally planning on staying in Brno but accommodation was coming up expensive. We enjoyed Ostrava, It was nice to travel somewhere a bit slower-paced.

To my perception, we still get quite a bit of foot traffic in the city centre. This is especially true during weekdays. We also often have events in Masaryk Square which are well attended. So, so far it has not struck me as dead, although on Sundays it does sometimes seem to be on life support lately. Most shops are closed then.
