The fourth and final session of the 2023 Ohio State University Extension Beef Team’s Virtual Beef School was hosted via ZOOM on April 12th. Following a format different from Beef School sessions in the past, the entire evening was spent discussing and responding to questions that had been asked by the listeners. Topics of discussion during the evening included budgeting feedlot gains and economic breakevens, considerations for genetic selection criteria, the freezer beef business, and a variety of herd management concepts related to capturing the beef cattle profit opportunities we expect to see in the foreseeable future. Throughout the evening, OSU Extension Beef Field Specialist Garth Ruff moderated the questions and answers. Listen in as Garth kicks off this 2023 edition of Beef Team Live.

My question is on distiller grain. Can pregnant cows eat distiller grain? I feed 20% grains and 80% hay? Can you give me suggestions. Thank you

Yes, DDGs can be fed to pregnant cows. While this presentation focuses on the feedlot, the information is relevant for cows also: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fBU5zRBRlGE.html Also, if you use the 'Search this blog' feature on our newsletter site (u.osu.edu/beef/) and simply type in "DDG" you will get several responses specific to cows.
