good video, but some points to note 1, it's possible to lower the pH on already established plants 2.Use Acid Compost as mulch and elemental sulfur in 3 to 6 months interval few inches on the base works excellent. 3. As a temporary measure/recovery use vinegar from your local store in dilution ( weak acetic acid) to lower the pH. DO NOT use this method as a long-term solution. 4.Start with 1-3 tablespoon to 1 gallon of water, add the vinegar to water NOT water to vinegar. apply once a week for a month and keep monitoring your plant performance. 5.They need sunshine but avoid mid-afternoon sun IF living in a very hot climate. Morning sun is great in the Southern hemisphere. 6.finally make sure you have good-draining soils. You should not see any water standing 10secs after watering try these tips, they worked for me,

I started my high bush blueberry orchard in 2005-in Maine. Zone 5 something. Since I wanted a U-Pick orchard,I went with 100 bushes. They are quite mature now,and I dont get less than 200 quarts per season since about 2014, about 9 yrs old. Since there are so many to care for I started selling some off,I think I'm at 75 now,it just got to be too much. I made my own compost when planting them,of a little peat moss,potting soil,kitchen compost or bagged compost,leaves & pine needles.My soil has a good amount of clay,lots of earthworms. A few years of Japanese beetles but the last 3 they have dwindled right down now. When I see a witches broom I cut it out. It doesn't seem to hurt the bush but I have read you should cut it out. I feed them organic blueberry food,I mow between the rows.They are spaced 5 ft apart and now wish I had left even more room between them.I have no problem with birds,and each year I have to trim as many as I can of older branches as they'll just break off anyways or I cant cant thru the rows with my rider. Its a very productive orchard. Then I have 6 more close to my back porch in a semi circle,at first I watered all 106 of them,then I gave up,it was too much to handle.But if we have ever have a dry season,I do have a water line out to the orchard,which isnt far from the house..having 50-60 quarts in my winter freezer is common!!

Why can you fertilize new plants until late July but older plants stop after July 1st? Is cold damage more of a concern on older plants compared to younger plants? Are younger plants less susceptible to cold damage?

what are the organic methods for ph control. Add Iron, Sulphur, iron sulphate etc? What I mean is how to lower ph and how to add sequestrated Iron?
@kahvac
@kahvac 4 года назад
The more organic matter you add to your soil such as mulch, leaves, wood-chips,etc the less PH is an issue. The less Organic matter you have in your soil the greater the dependence is on PH which is usually lowered by the addition of Sulfur. You want your soil microbes working for you and almost nothing for external inputs except more Organic Matter ..same as nature does it.
@heidimisfeldt5685
@heidimisfeldt5685 4 года назад
Add pine needles, to make soil acidic. No compost, no manure, as the video is saying. You can add sawdust and woodchips, neutral PH, and that's ok with blueberries. Don't overfeed blueberries plants.
@Stilgar74

The easy way my friend is to grown then in peat moss. I buy bare root and small potted plants from nursery and grow them in large pots filled with 100% peat moss . I use pine bark mulch to top dress it with. Use azalea fertilizer in early spring before they flower . Do not use manures of any kind they will burn the roots. You can however occasionally use fish emulsion fertilizer with watering . Other than that just water regularly to keep them from drying out. Give them sunshine and you will get berries that rival store bought fruit. Good luck
