The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has lauded the lawmaker representing Odo-Otin/Ifelodun/Boripe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Soji Adetunji, for empowering members of his constituency.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Empowerment, Hon. Bayo Ogungbangbe, commended the lawmaker for embarking on projects with direct impact on the people, making his constituents better off than they were in previous years.
Hon. Bayo Ogungbangbe encouraged Rep. Soji Adetunji to continue ensuring that his entire constituency enjoys the dividends of democracy. He also charged other politicians to return to their constituencies and give back to their people.
Meanwhile, Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Olumide Egbedun, disclosed at the event that the entire state is pleased with Rep. Soji Adetunji for fulfilling part of his campaign promises to his constituents.
"MHR, you made us proud, and we are happy you are doing this today. The items here have vindicated you, and this is what we expect from people that represent us in Abuja," his words.
Hon. Adewale Egbedun condemned intra-party crises within the Osun PDP, urging every member of the party to encourage unity and peace to move the PDP forward in each local government and the entire state.
In his speech, Osun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi commended Rep. Soji Adetunji for his achievements over the past year, imploring party members to be at peace with one another. He warned party members that the APC must not be allowed to return havoc to Osun State.
Speaking on behalf of all royal fathers present, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, HRM Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi Odundun IV, praised Rep. Adetunji for the multimillion-naira empowerment initiative within his short period as a federal lawmaker.
Meanwhile, Aragbiji admonished the beneficiaries to desist from selling the items given to them, urging them to use the items to create employment and improve their skills.
Earlier, while giving his welcome address, Rep. Soji Adetunji reminded the distinguished attendees at the empowerment event of the significance of Democracy Day. He narrated how Nigerians trooped enthusiastically to the polls, defying stereotypes of ethnicity and religion, to prove to the world that a new Nigeria is possible.
On the empowerment initiative, Rep. Soji Adetunji said the gesture was to alleviate the untold hardship in the country by improving the quality of life of individuals, increasing economic opportunities, and fostering independence among his people.
Stating his accomplishments in the past year, the lawmaker highlighted the installation of solar-powered streetlights in two local government areas, the donation of a security bus to vigilantes, and the personal distribution of rice palliatives in December 2023 and January 2024, among others. Similarly, Rep. Soji Adetunji disclosed that he has sponsored several bills and moved some motions on the floor of the House within the first year in the green chamber.
He promised to construct two blocks of classrooms in each local government, construct a perimeter fence at Ebenezer Primary School in Asi, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, complete the third phase of solar streetlight installation in Odo-Otin Local Government, empower more women and youths, and supply fertilizers to boost food production in his federal constituency.
Items distributed to the constituents include, sewing machines, motorcycles, grinding machines, POS terminals, various farm equipment, fans, freezers, refrigerators, generators including table and chairs for POS operation. Millions of naira were also distributed as cash grants to widows, widowers, and the aged to put smiles on the faces of the constituents.
The event was attended by top government functionaries in the state, party leaders and elder statesmen, royal fathers, and other dignitaries in the state.
