Disney could have bought Oswald back any time. He had more than enough money by the 1950's and Universal was overall indifferent to Oswald. They only kept using him in comics and merchandising because Walter Lantz implored them to do so.

And despite the end of the Disney's game studio canceling all their console games long after their last reunion, they have finally been reunited for good, now that mickey's in the public domain with oswald

The one to blame was Charles Mintz for screwing Disney over. If he wasn't so greedy and stingy, Walt wouldn't have founded his own studio and beat Mintz at his own game, making him lose everything, including the rights to Oswald to Walter Lantz, got huge dept and died in his 50's (okay, so Walt died too soon too at only 65 but he should have stopped smoking, still he got older than his bastard-of-an-ex-boss). Sure, if that happened we probably wouldn't get Mickey Mouse, like if Shigeru Miyamoto got the rights for Popeye for his arcade game, there wouldn't be a Mario or Donkey Kong franchise. Maybe Snow White and other Disney movies have been different under Mintz' leadership or if they would have happened at all. Maybe Disneyland would have become Mintzland or it didn't happen, and who knows how theme parks would have been today if it wasn't for Dosney. Probably it was for the best it happened this way. Let's hope Satan tortures Mintz well in Hell!

@@petraroman6967 Of course not... the whole reason Mickey was afraid of marrying Minnie for such a long time is because he had a nightmare in which they had TOO MANY KIDS for him to handle; that story even became it's own cartoon (Mickey's Nightmare). In another cartoon via the "House of Mouse" era, Mickey had dreamed up an entire reenactment of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in which the only reason he and Minnie (and at first, Daisy) were ABOUT to get married is because of a fairy's love potion went horribly wrong. He didn't mention the love potion (or Goofy being the fairy for that manner) when he wakes up and describes the idea of marriage as a "scary dream", but I think subconsciously, Mickey was worried if his relationship was going too fast and he's on his way to making a mistake in it, but thankfully Minnie... though offended by such words for a moment... only laughed it off.

You're wrong. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was legally owned by Universal from the beginning, and Mintz owned the distribution rights.

Charles Mintz was the only one who took Oswald away from his Papa Walt, Universal (through Laemmle and Lantz's animation studio) would come claiming it later from Mintz (a karma that was foreshadowed by Walt himself).
