This raises soooo many questions now. Does that mean Oswald will be part of the Mickey Mouse gang with Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Daisy, Pluto, Chip N Dale or will he be a solo and not join that group and do his own thing like what he’s doing now. Or will he be the mascot of Disney in someway kinda of like Mickey Mouse is a mascot for Disney still or is there room to share the mascots for both Disney that would be interesting. All i can say is that Walt Disney would be happy that Disney has got Oswald back from Universal i think it was and plus there weren’t doing anything with him what a waist. But now he can shine again.

Even if the majority of the staff at Walt Disney Animation Studios is busy to make more classically inspired Mickey and Oswald shorts, I’m sure the newly-opened Vancouver branch is up to the task.

I was dying on the mortgaging part. Like who in their right mind is willing to pay AU$ 950 for a T-Shirt with an outline of Oswald??? Unless the thing was blessed by gods and made using materials from the rarest of sheep, you could legit buy/make the exact same thing for less than AU$ 30.

Speaking of Oswald merchandise, I’ve read that he’s going to be immortalized in Lego BrickHeadz form in an upcoming pack. I hope this means he gets a minifigure too!

I swear this happening after iger coming back is no coincidence. Say what you will about him but I’m just grateful how much love is being shown right now and hope more will be shown in the future. I feel a connection to this character more than any other in the world.

Apparently the initally planned Oswald Disney plus show was in development under iger as he is very proud of getting Oswald back under Disney. It was cancelled under chapeck . So I feel like iger returning set the stage for this. Or not. Who knows?

The timing with the 100th anniversary probably helped convince anyone who was on the fence as well. That timing and iger returning may have saved Oswald or at least made him a more prominent character going forward. Hope you have a better day tomorrow

As a kid, outside of watching a heavily edited Mickey cartoon on the original Mickey Mouse Club, I didn't see any Mickey theatrical shorts on TV until the 'net. But, I grew up watching Universal's "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" cartoons released for local TV. The pre-Mickey! Yaaay! 🐰

That T-shirt, though. It's white. One arrant stain and you got yourself a thousand dollar rag. Every white shirt I ever owned is trash because something always manages to get on it. But anyway, good on them for actually doing something with a character they went through great lengths to get back from Universal, Disney's greatest rival. Hopefully we get a series of shorts or something out of it.

IF Oswald where to return to the Disney media permanently, i think he should receive a modern look like Mickey has but he should still use his current design in the Mickey shorts like appearance. I have a theory on why characters like Mickey Goofy and Pete have such dark fur. I think because they were originally in black and white and when they got into color, the animators didn't know how to color them

They were mostly black to streamline the animation, since the body became like a silhouette and didn't require drawing as many outlines. Otto Messmer did that early on with Felix the Cat, and many other characters followed the example.

Curious if this has anything to do with the already extended copyright protection for Mickey Mouse supposedly expiring in 2024. Maybe this reemergence is in hopes Lucky can stand in for Mickey as a figurehead in future?
