Lower Otay Reservoir winter bass fishing. Even though this lake is where I started my kayak fishing, this is the first time fishing artificial baits targeting bass.

I was just there on july 6th and tore it up using chartuse crankbaits.

@@m.rod6751 nice! Otay is a lake I cannot crank for whatever reason. I just don’t get bit on cranks there. I’ve had better luck on jerkbaits and finesse techniques. Thanks for joining me and tight lines! 🎣

Each day that goes by is a day closer to you getting back on the water brother! When that day comes, tight lines! 🎣

This was on a 7’2 medium heavy, fast action rod. Phenomenal rod, I highly recommend. Thanks for joining me and tight lines! 🎣

@@Yoitzjerry I have that same rod same action but it’s a 7’8 what would recommend that type of rod for

@@marcomontoya8964 they are great rods for sure! I like to think of Medium Heavy, Fast Action rods as “general purpose” rods. You can fish most reaction lures (crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinner baits, buzzbaits, etc), while also fishing bottom contact techniques as well (jig, dropshot, Texas rig, etc). With these type of rods, I would fish baits that are between 1/8oz up to 3/4oz in weight. As for the length, the longer the rod the more leverage, accuracy, and distance you get; however, too long of a rod can become uncomfortable over time and get in the way while fishing. I personally stick to 7’4 and under rods because I’m so close to the water column that when I put action into the bait, I might hit the surface of the water or even worst, smack and tangle up on my other rods (which I have done before and broke a rod tip). It’s all about personal preference and finding out what works for you. Tight lines! 🎣
