He lost his father very young as I did but his father's music is timeless. I know of no generation nor culture that doesn't love Otis Redding. I think of The Summer of Love at the fairgrounds in Monterrey in 1967. He was so different than other bands on the venue but he's the one who got them moving. 3:39 😮
He'd just written sitting on the dock and his wife had a chill when he gave her the word's, his plane went down on the bay😵🙏💯💪👍😍🤑 Miss him still?? What we LOST 🙏💯💓😢
@@garybrockwell2031 Wow!! That's incredible!! We were so blessed to have him with us and he was able to share his amazing talents!! Reat peacefully Ottis!! Thank you for your gifts to the world!
I just want to send love to Mrs. Redding, she's a strong woman and never remarried, in the interview she said. Why would I ,I have the love of my life and he's buried in the front yard. My God continue to bless you and your children 💜🙏🏽
It absolutely breaks my heart that Otis died at 26 years of age. So talented. So smart. He negotiated his own contracts, invested his money extremely wisely and retained the publishing rights on his songwriting, which nobody - not even the Beatles - were smart enough to do in the early to mid 60’s. He would have done so much more had he lived.
Thats why the small hat tribe sabotaged his plain and why mumble rappers and low talent nibbas reign supreme in the music industry. small hats and their associates do not like artists with talent thats why they get rid of them or tarnish they image the second they dont want to play ball or try to become independent. Laugh and mock me since i have no proof but it makes sense, biggie smalls died for the same reasons, now look what came out about diddy his "friend".
I remember that day quite well, I was 12 yrs Old and from Atlanta, we claimed Otis Redding as one of our own even though He was from the big M we called it, Macon, Ga, That was the saddest Christmas ever, Otis Redding songs played over & over..Merry Christmas Baby..you sure did treat me right, just one on His many classics, Then Try A Little Tenderness became an anthem, with tears flowing from our eyes because our hearts was broken mourning His death, and those who was madly in love, then there was Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay which just amplified the tragic plane crash every time we heard it, because His plane was over loaded and missed the runway by several hundred feet and plunged into the Winona River in Minnesota, when they pulled Him out of the river He still had His seat belt on strapped to His seat, a terrible sight that the world saw, an image I can never forget as long as I live, YES...one of the most tragic events of my lifetime, an image I'll never forget, and If that wasn't enough, 4 months later Dr. King was assassinated, Those 2 events shaped my life in not a good way, But they helped me to understand how precious life is and how little time we have on this planet, RIP,,,BIG O...and Dr. King!! 😢😢😢❤❤😢
Thank you for your testimony. Otis was a blessing to Earth with his "soul food" of heavenly songs. May him and Dr. King continue to rest in peace. We will never forget either one 😢❤
It is sad that this is Otis' last performance. However now that we have You Tube and other streaming services we can watch this performance hopefully forever. Younger generations can still discover the great Otis Redding and his contributions to music...
Very old song, sung by many people. Otis never wanted to do it because its not his song. His manager begged him to do it and he crushed it. Never a better version. Thanks for the music Otis and rip.
I was 19 when this Masterpiece hit Charts. I'm 74 now and this sounds like I'm back in 1967 at a club that I lied about my age, Partying. Very good era and good times.
When *corporate* didn't rely on autotune, is what you mean. I can't imagine that there aren't people who still have talent. *Corporate* just likes to play it safe, they're in it for the money.
Yes, back in those days, talent was necessary. Either you had it or you didn't and if you didn't, you received rejections from record companies. Today anything goes.
well, on a side note there is a huge library of music through the ages at your fingertips. And if you go looking plenty of artists still have the chops - and many more are able to flourish thanks to the availability of audio engineering. Some songs that are great would never have been made if the singer couldn't convey the vision in their head into reality.
Amazing to have this clip here. Today everyone would make a money out of this. Great respect for the performances and no matter how often this is repeated the original is the best. Thanks for sharing and let us mortals enjoy and respect. Great music.
Never forget my mother telling me…that singer you like has died. So shocked when I saw it on the news!!! Got his biography. Now seeing this, that his last performance was in Cleveland, Ohio, a place I visited this year for a wedding, adds to the poignancy of it all. The pressure of playing the next gig, took far too many from us!!
Otis and SRV both died in a plane crash getting out of Wisconsin. Both died just when they were entering their mature phase. The world missed out on their talents, just like we did Mozart and Schubert.
So sorry to call out this false posting of a tragic event in Soul Music history- this video is NOT Leo's Casino in Cleveland where Otis last performed! This is a TV studio. I was at his last performance with a friend from Baltimore. We were students at Denison University and he was the brightest star in our galaxy. He performed in his signature dark gray shark's skin suit, sweating through it on a tiny and packed stage with the Bar-kays, dark lighting, funky beautiful night club. May he rest in peace without people mis-representing him... and bless his son OR lll as well.- I will always love you. I danced with my daughter at her wedding to this beautiful song.. Peter SIckels
I adore adore adore Otis I've an old soul often think I was born in the wrong era..when I listen to him sing he makes me truly understand what "soul" is all about..his song these arms of mine reduces me to tears every time I hear it..taken far far too soon but all the best ones always are..god bless you Otis always remembered never forgotten❤️❤️❤️

I was there. It was a fantastic show, and Otis was one of my all-time favorites. I couldn't believe the news in the Cleveland plain dealer the following morning..
LEMME TALK TO Y'ALL, I'm telling you, young men & older ones alike. If you ĵust do this one thing, you won't ever have to stray away, cos She will give YOU EVERYTHING THAT YOU NEED IN HER & HERSELF ALONE! A LOVE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE FROM A WOMAN IN LOVE WITH HER MAN! DD🙏🏻🌈🕊♥️
I sang this at karaoke and went back and listened to Otis. I was 8 years old when he and the Bar Kays crashed and died. One of my all time favorite songs.
Otis was performing at Leo's Casino in Cleveland I lived there. He did the Upbeat show on Saturday they played the last show Sunday at Leo's flew out and then the plane crashed, This was his Last recorded live show.
2:31 I have no words. It's so fucking sad that this climax to the song is so powerful. And the last one before their untimely death. Rest in Peace Bar Keys.
I grew up down south listening to such great musical tunes of "The Great Otis Redding" all the way from Macon, GA. Still love them to this day at age 65 I will never forget or stop listening to his music.
Sophomore in college when we lost Otis. He had just performed a concert there which I had not attended regrettably. Thankfully we now have YT to relive those old memories.
I don’t know if anybody can see that this man knew his times was coming which is CRAZY.. Just look before the sweat begins to form and fall from the side of his face he wiped a Tear from his eyes😢
Oddly he didn't perform Dock of the Bay at his last performance. Managers must have had the song on hold and it was released within days after he died...Peter SIckels
