Yes, you can water at night. The power is stored in an internal battery, it doesn’t need sun to operate at night. I hope that answers your question.

another question, if I may: since it's dependent on wi-fi, is there a good way to tell if you get a good enough signal out to the spots in your yard that you will place the units? Is it good enough, for instance to test with your phone or laptop? Or do different devices have better antennas, etc.? I know you can always buy wi-fi boosters, just trying to find info on how you can tell if you will have a good signal to the locations. Greatly appreciate your wisdom!

Great question, phones and laptops have different Wi-Fi antennas than what’s inside of many other devices. You can check with both a phone and your laptop to get a general idea but it won’t be 100% precise. If you still need coverage out there, a simple Wi-Fi repeater will work just fine. great video - to optimize coverage, I want to place the unit in the middle of my yard. Is it possible to bury the unit (maybe leaving a few inches of the top exposed)?

I was wondering exactly the same thing. I presume you'd need to adequately drain around it, so it doesn't get water logged.

Water doe not leak from the until. The head will turn 360°, and you’d need a durable hose that can be buried. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!

Does the stream that comes out of the system, get longer and longer and then shorter as it goes back and forth? It seems to be watering in the same spot but I could be wrong. Thank you for the review.

Yes, the stream from OtO will extend out farther to reach the ends of the lawn and retract closer when needed. And you’re welcome! Let me know if you have any other questions

I see that the oto lawn can be set up to 10 zones but can different zones be set for different locations? For example, can I set an area in my front yard to water, then move it into my backyard to water a different area? Thanks!

You can move it but I would not suggest it. You would then have to move the hose along with it. I would recommend getting two units. You can always reach out to OtO on their website, their customer service is awesome.

another question! Is your lawn, from the OTO to the fence, whats the distance? it seems lien you did max distance, and water didn't reach ? Do you have just one unit? wondered if you tried 2 OtOs in action. My lawn (both front and back) have such odd layouts that I may need 2 in each sides. driveway is about 24ft length to the sidewalk and with boulevard additional 8~12ft length to the road. then width to cover is 22-23ft on one side, on the other side of driveway is 6 ft width x 24ft len. Im so not sure if one OtO can cover all that distance (straight&diagonal) 🤔

No, my lawn does not represent its max distance. I can easily reach the box wood plants and tree. OtO can reach a distance of 30ft. There is one unit in the front yard and three in the backyard since the lawn surrounds all sides of the house and third car garage. OtO does have a handy tool on their website which can help you visualize what may be needed for your lawn. You just enter in your address and it uses Google Maps to help you map OtOs around your property. otolawn.com/pages/lawn-visualization-tool

Thanks for this review. I really like the concept, but one thing I have concerns about is security. I live in an urban area with a fair bit of petty theft going on. What is to stop someone from picking up this $400 device from my front yard and walking away with it? Can it be anchored in the ground in any way?

You're welcome Jason. Each OtO unit has a steel and aluminum frame that can lock the device to a permanent structure using a chain or cable and lock. I have a cable lock running around my front porch post and buried the cable under the ground. Each OtO unit is securely programmed to a single login and password. If someone steals your OtO device, it won’t work unless they know the login and password information.

I'm really curious about a couple of things: 1) how does this thing do when there are trees in your yard and 2) is it sensitive to water pressure (or lack thereof) from water being used in other places inside your house, and how does it affect the setup process? Thanks!

Yes, with any sprinkler system a blocked water path would be an obstacle. Best to find a location where OtO can reach your lawn.

If you have less than the required (normal range) of water PSI you may have an issue but I’ve never seen OtO affected while I wash the car or do laundry.

Hi. What is the closest distance it can water the plants or grass? I understand that installing Oto in the middle of my garden on the grass is not perfect idea.

It seems to be around an inch or so after their newest firmware update. I have an OtO in the center of my grass in the back yard and have no issues. I do have to move it once a week when I mow the lawn and it is not a hassle. :) Hope this help!

I notice the grass is dry directly in front of the Oto. I presume there's a min distance it's able to reach?

Good question and yes I moved the OtO but with their new firmware update the minimum distance has but reduced so I was able to place it back to its original position. Take a look at @botanicatech on Instagram for more videos showing how close it can bet to the grass now.

How long does it actually take to put down 1/2" of water in your lawn ????

Good question and each lawn is different depending on the weather. Sometimes it is 20 minutes and sometimes it is 30 min. OtO will change the amount of water needed depending on your area’s weather.

@steev the technophile wow usually it takes at least 1h for me to put down 1/2" using multiple above ground sprinklers (im having to babysit em to adjust and move around 🙄). i have been fed up with dealing with it. seems lime OTO's water deposit is high, seeing the jet stream style and from your info. makes me wonder if water goes down root zone (4-6" deep) with only 30mns ? Im super curious with OTO, although, it still hasn't convinced me fully.

Yep! Use it every spring and summer. Just got them out of winter mode and they’re charging up in the sun. Still raining weekly here so don’t need them yet. :)

Toward the end of the video (17:08), when the unit was off, it looked like it was leaking a bit from the top. Does it leak at all?

Nope, doesn’t leak. May had residual water built up inside.

Seems to me it would be better for shrubs and flowers beds and leave regular sprinklers for the lawn

Not necessarily, I’ve been using OtO for two seasons and it has exceeded my expectations. Sprinklers waste too much water as it is and OtO saves me $ with reducing water and fertilizer cost since OtO fertilizers the lawn automatically.
