I have the D1 Lite and also have "glitches". It appears to be the VCI because if I connect the tool using a usb cable, I don't have the drops in communication. I have updated the VCI and still have the issue. I'm a backyard mechanic working on my own vehicles so it's not that big a deal to me. But OTOFIX should look into this.
Makes you wonder what's in that tank and the condition of the fuel filter. Thanks for the review on the otofix D1, looks like a great little tool for sure! It has more capabilities than I expected. Keep up the great work Jake 💯
Hi Jake. During my injector development activity in the past, I have seen some clogging of the screens in the top of fuel injectors!! I called the particles trapped in the inlet of the injectors "Screen Gems!" The engineering managers liked the humor. Key takeaway is that fuel system cleanliness is mandatory for reliable fuel system performance in fuel injected engines. Somewhere there should be a 5 micron filter close the injector inlets. Also there should be a minimum of a 10 micron filter in the fuel filling stations dispensing fuel to vehicles. Omit those 10 micron filters in line with the fuel dispensing pump hoses and the vehicle fuel pumps fail very quickly!
Those chevys have a on frame fuel filter and the drivers side fuel rail gets fuel first then passes it to the passenger fuel rail so that driver fuel rail will clog the injectors first if fuel is dirty
The Otofix D1 Pro is a great bang for the buck. It is Autel software in cheaper hardware. Two years of free updates. The days of $5K scan tools are gone. Technology changes too fast now. My Topdon Pheonix Plus is even better.
I like using an amp clamp when I’m comparing pintle openings to other injectors. Basically comparing at what amperage the pintle moves in relation to others. Also add in the voltage command and see the close you get the actual open duration you can use as well.
I'm thinking about a small scanner like this to add to my arsenal but already have a couple Autels. Do you have any impressions of the small-form Topdons? I'm thinking about the UltraDiag since I also do keys
I’ve got the ultradiag but haven’t got to use it very much yet to have an opinion about it. One thing about it is topdon has designed the software for it so it’s got bugs and things they are actively working out.
Have you ever considered using an oscilloscope to better view the misfires better? I learning more about it and can somehow view the problems through wave forms with more practice. Maybe it's not to your liking or it's takes too long to setup. What are your thoughts?
Yes I use it often. I had even used it on this truck and seen the burn line indicating lean condition. That alone isn’t enough to conclude a bad injector. This video is about pin point testing to confirm the fault. The ignition waveform only told me I had lean conditions which gives 2 testing paths, vacuum leak on those cylinders or fuel issues. Since I knew the misfire was present all the time I went with fuel system testing.
So the fuel system needs to be cleaned, or else the injectors will get all dirty again. And the Intake is deformed. Maybe the engine has trouble breathing?
I'm not sure but the pintle isn't moving so for the price of the injectors I would just replace them. The time id have to charge to try cleaning them is more then the injectors.
Jake maybe you know something about this issue . If purchased on Amazon it has Chinese software which will not be covered in the USA. If purchased from a USA distributor supposedly it has different software warranted and comes with software that can be updated in the US. Other wise it cannot. Have you heard any issues. I know Amazon is challenging when purchased from CHINA. Thanks for sharing. 👍🇺🇸
@@autodiagyt I don’t know I’ve heard both for and against for that reason. I heard the one on Amazon if you want to do updates it has to be reprogrammed at a ridiculous price. Jake I don’t know everything is Chinese on Amazon. Thanks for replying and keep us updated. 👍
Otofix does not list a US distributor on their website and from my research Amazon is the only retailer. Many of Amazon's Otofix listings offer 2 years of free updates. I have sent Otofix a message asking just this question. No response yet.
@@thk7513it doesn't help there are the different otofix websites also where you can buy tax free and they have 10 percent off when you checkout at the moment.
Those year chevys the misfire counter I’ve found is not accurate. Often times for me anyway it’s usually the cylinder before in the firing order that’s the issue. I’ve had cylinder 1 misfire but it counted on cylinder 8
Regarding the bidirectional test: when you selected "intstrument gauges" the lamp activation options apperared . So the the actual gauge sweep test may be hidden/swapped and appear when clicking another option as the actual lamp test or DIC option which also wre displayed.
Looks like the fuel tank needs cleaning and a new filter on the fuel pump. Then the owner needs to change gas stations. Two very nice tools you have there. Good one Jake
I love this test. What a simple and practical case to make for definitive scope testing. Do you ever use an amp clamp to verify injector circuit integrity?
No the voltage testing proves circuit integrity. If there was an issue with voltage dropping when current is pulled the induction spike at the end wouldn’t be as big and you can gauge how much current was used by the width of the clipping at the top.
@@autodiagyt- Interesting, I’m guessing you’re looking at the amount of oscillation at the end of the waveform just like on a secondary ignition waveform shows the strength of the ignition coil. Thank you for sharing and teaching I love it.
@@kc360awareness just the single inductive spike at the end. No current flow= no spike, lower current = smaller spike(or narrower clip at the top). Also the dwell will not be completely flat, it will slop upwards very slightly.
what a great little tablet indeed mate . does more than enough for your average job . great bit of diagnostic work .wow that must have some bad corrosion or crap floating around in that fuel system makes you wonder were he buys his fuel from
Nice diag and use of the Otofix D1 Lite. As I stated before, I have the D1 and have been pretty impressed with it so far. I'm still trying to get used to the Autel software after mostly using Launch software. I will say that I emailed Otofix a question about a week or more ago and have never heard anything back so not too impressed with that. For some reason, I also cannot set up my email on the tool so that I can send reports to my email. Not sure what the deal is there. Overall, it's a very nice tool.
Last Snap On update did the same to my Verus on early Can and preCan Chevys. I called tech support and they are making a fix. Must have more than 1 scan tool at hand thats for sure.
Tool looks great for the us market where autel and launch have focused their tools but in europe on european brands i have found them to be really lacking and if you give them feedback they never act on it
The im1? I was going to go that route till I saw the new im508s with diagnostics and you don't have to pay extra. Scooped it up for 749 out the door eBay best offer plus eBay discount. And it comes with otofix smart watch which I will sell and recoup about 75.
Most tools will list the number and name of the active bidirectional tests available, this should not be a surprise to a buyer, the cheaper, the less the active tests. I wish you would have said what a couple of times that it let you down, this is a worldwide problem, nobody wants to say what issues they have with a certain tool, everybody wants a bigger and better tool to be sent to them for free (sponsored gift) so better not say anything bad against the company...... That is not an honest review and using it on a handful of cars is also not a true review, it's testing up to this point on which small list of vehicles? Maybe when the true review video comes out, you will qualify your full list of reviews, PROs, and CONs, thank you for all your diag videos.
I still use this thing alot and it still does everything I would expect it it do. The ipc sweep on old gm clusters. They also sent me the top of the line Evo ultra and I'm definitely not happy with it. Scanned 3 different cars yesterday and no topology on them.
They had also replaced the filter. Story is the truck was bad motor and sat for a while and then got a motor that had been sitting. That's about all I know on it.
