#Otrar is an anciet ciy on Silk Way Road, one of the biggest cities in Central Asia before mongolian invasion. It is located 57 km south to Turkestan. It was founded before 8th century and destroyed in 1219 by Khengis Khan army. He besieged the city for 5 months and then one traitor simply opened the gates according to the legends.
Many cities never recovered, but Otrar rose again. People lived here until XIX century. Among any other noticeable events - Tamerlan died when gathering his troops to attack China.
Silk Way Road lost its importance and city was abandoned after all.
it was 1971 when archeologists first started to disciver the heritage of the city. The area of the settlement is about 2 square kilometres. The lowest layers of the settlement are dated from the 1st century AD and the earliest monuments are dated from the 12th to 15th centuries. There were many interesting finds and, they still digging.
What you see with the blue tiles is a public bath. It was restored by modern builders as well as many other areas. They call it museumfication - in order to give a glimpse on how people lived. It is not always a careful work - I have seen many ceramic pieces buried under the modern layers of stone and adobe structures. Maybe it's just a garbage and they don't care about it, though.
Anyway, there is still many to explore and discover on this area - the city was huge and keeps many secrets and interesting finds still.
