I love the Idea! I personally have thought about something very similar. I use foam pads at times in my hubs but they can get wet after a few days. one way or another you got to spend priceless time with your parents building this! I hope you enjoy the time. Great job and thank you for sharing!!
I really do like the wood floor! We have stayed in one place for several days at a time in my resort and never have to worry about ice melt coming up on the floor. I think we are going on 4 years with my resorts floor and still holding up great. I feel like it helps hold in a bit more heat also. Thank you! Thank you! No we actually left it long on purpose so that the propane tank and anything that we don’t want on the ice or snow would be able to set on it. Almost like a front porch haha.
Thank you for the idea, we like to use the wood floor mostly because we stay for long amounts of time in one place and run a heater most of the time. With the foam floor we had ice melt coming up on top of the pads and stuff starts to get wet. The other reason is the wood floor floats on top of the snow better then the foam pads. I use the foam as well. I put a blue tarp down first, then the foam. Keeps all of the water out (except stuff that is brought in on your boots). I also keep my heat source up off the ice. I've camped on Boysen for 5 days and 4 nights with no issues. Several 3 day stays on Fontenelle. I love the concept and your design. I have followed your channel and really dig all of the family time that you include in your videos. If you can get your family out there for a weekend, and they can stay dry and warm, it's worth all of the effort. I was fishing with Wes ( that guy that came over and visited you guys last week). We had talked about using a tarp with the foam pads but just have never done it that way. One of the biggest reasons we started using the wood floors was for when my kids come with us, they can stay warm and dry. The wood floor has just become part of our setup and is super easy to put up. Thank you, it is actually quite easy to put together and seems to be holding up very well. I think we are on the 3rd year of using the floor and haven't had any problems with it. Yes sir! That is what it is all about for us, just getting out and spending time together. Thank you!!! We actually use a four wheeler or snowmobile. We have built cargo trailers we pull behind the snowmobiles and use otter sleds to haul our gear behind the cargo trailers. Works out pretty good as long as we have snow cover on the ice, otherwise we use a four wheeler with chains and a small trailer behind it. Thank you for watching and for your comment!!!
We used 1/2 inch plywood that is the true wood plywood with a wood look (not pressed particle board) and pine 2x4s. We tried to build it as light as we could for ease of moving it and hauling it with snowmobiles. Thank you for your comment and watching the videos!
