I actually just picked this case up from my local Walmart. It was on clearance for $15, so I figured why not. I actually love it. I have the regular symmetry and it’s not bad, just hard for me to hold on to. The rubber around the outside really helps with grip and the back doesn’t show fingerprints at all. I work outside a lot, so I need something with more protection through the work week, and this is my go to for now. Thanks!

I just got this for my 13 Pro. Mage safe is a plus but I won’t use it so I stuck on a Popsocket and it’s the perfect setup! It is a bit of a struggle to get it on but once it’s on its solid.
Seeing these reviews makes me VERY EXCITED for the iPhone 13 this September. There finally adding 120 hertz to the archaic iphone screen. EEEE so pumped cant wait for your review of it Kristen.

This really is the ultimate overkill protection for a phone - but I kinda like it. I think I will get it for my 13 Pro Max. But I hope it’s compatible with tempered glass screen protectors that go edge to edge 👍🏼
Hi JoZibi! I haven't reviewed this for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but based on my previous experience with it, I think that edge to edge tempered glass screen protectors might potentially be problematic. You might want to ask OtterBox if they have any suggestions for particular brands of edge to edge screen protectors that might work with the Defender XT...
If you look on OtterBox’s description page for this case, they list the Alpha Glass screen protector as an accessory for it, so I think you can be assured that it should fit with the case. It’s not an edge to edge screen protector, however…
Do you think this case is suitable for use in sandy environments? I wanted to get it to use at the beach, but I don't know if it would actually be suitable for the purpose. (Mostly I'm worried about whether sand could get inside the case and scratch the back of the phone, but I don't know if I'm actually worrying too much or it's actually possible)
Hi Vivi! In my opinion, the best kind of case to use at the beach is going to be something like the LifeProof FRE. Not only is it waterproof, it is also sandproof as well. The built in screen protector will protect your screen from the abrasive sand, and your ports and rear camera will be protected from the sand as well. The Defender XT is going to provide some protection, but not as much as the FRE. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching! And have a good time at the beach :-)
I returned the Symmetry for a Defender XT. I always thought the Defender series was super bulky but not anymore. Hopefully it will save the glass on the back of my phone because I’m guaranteed to drop it eventually
Your videos are great, thank you! I have a question about using tempered glass screen protectors with the Defender or Defender Pro (not the XT). I tried using a Dbrand tempered glass screen protector with a Defender case on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Unfortunately, after snapping the chassis together on the Defender, it caused the corners of the Dbrand screen protector to lift up. I’m now using the Defender without any screen protector (nervous) because it looks like this will happen with all tempered glass screen protectors and a Defender. What has your experience been with tempered glass screen protectors that will actually work with the Defender? Thank you.
Hi Ryan--I posted this answer on another video's comment section, but will repeat it here for the sake of convenience: "I actually have zero experience with this season's Defender or Defender Pro cases for the 12 Pro Max. However, on OtterBox's website, they list the Alpha Glass and the Amplify tempered glass screen protectors as being compatible with the Defender and Defender Pro. Personally, I would recommend the Amplify--I love that screen protector--but I have more experience with the Amplify than the Alpha Glass, so I may be somewhat biased. I also have not had the opportunity to review any of the OtterBox screen protectors for the iPhone 12 series. Hope this helps!"
I use zagg screen protector. I prefer the privacy screen and they have a decent warranty. Been using them since glass screen protector’s came out. They have always fit my defender cases and fit perfectly with my Defender Pro XT.

Did yours also have a little lip on top near the earpiece where it didn't seem to sit flush? I am asking because I got mine yesterday and it has that issue everywhere else on the case it sits perfectly.
Hi Michael! Sorry to be slow to respond. Are you talking about the small area where the rim dips inward, above the notch? Because mine certainly has that--it is a design feature, I believe, to make it fit better in that notch area...

Picked up the Defender XT case for my IPhone 12 Pro Max. Love it for the most part it has some flaws especially with the belt clip. But they aren’t too terrible honestly just gotta make sure it clicks in good or else it will fall right out.
@@TheTechReviewer yeah especially when that’s the whole reason I use these cases. I work in a metal stamping factory so I need that to help ensue protect my. Expensive phones last thing I need is one falling out lol.
@@TheTechReviewer from my experience no it isn’t. Tolerances aren’t as tight so you don’t get that good solid audible click. So I normally give a few test gigs before I do anything.

You mentioned the OtterBox holster that youd have to purchase aftermarket; well, If i already have the Defender, but dont like its thickness, so im purchasing a Defender XT after many years as an OtterBox user… Is the clip/holster the exact same as the one that comes with the regular defender….? That's really a question for OtterBox. I don't have that case, so I can't say. Many 13 mini cases will fit 12 mini phones, but you should really check with the manufacturer before making your buying decision. Thanks for watching!

I have the exact same case, the only complaint is I wish it was more grippy on the back like the defender , this defender XT scratches easily I do like the mag safe
Hi Richard! I haven't tried the two together, but I would suspect that it does as the Zagg Glass Elite+ is quite case compatible. However, if you want to be completely sure about compatibility, you could go with one of OtterBox's own screen protectors: the Amplify or the Alpha Glass. Hope this helps!
Got the defender pro regular for my pacific blue 12 pro max, love it. Has the grippy texture for the back. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a screen protector to fit cause the front plate part causes it to not sit flush. Any suggestions?
Hi is this case more protective the the normal defender. The normal defender says it has 4x drop protection but the defender xt has 5x drop protection thank you😀
@@TheTechReviewer it’s weird because you can tell just by looking at it if you put the 2 head 2 head I’m pretty sure the normal would be better at surviving the drop test I’ve now got the normal one and will be sending the xt back thanks for the video well illustrated 😀
Hi Chad! No experience with the regular Defender case this year, so I really can't comment one way or another. The fact that this is MagSafe compatible, however, is a major point in its favor...
I like this case but like last year it’s very slippery on the back. it’s a shame they don’t make the back of the Case like the regular defender with rubber.
Agreed! My guess is that they needed to make the back of the case thinner in order to work properly with MagSafe, but they could have at least made the plastic more textured. Not sure what the thinking was there...
The Defender definitely feels like a more protective case...totally agree. But according to OtterBox, the Symmetry should provide very good drop protection as well. It's rated for 3x military standard...that's 78 four foot drops. So nothing to sneeze at...

According to OtterBox, it is supposed to be even more protective, with 5x mil-spec protection as opposed to 4x mil-spec protection for the Defender Pro. The Defender Pro is also not MagSafe. I haven't ever reviewed the Defender Pro, but I believe it is grippier than the Defender XT. Hope this helps!
Hi Lyndon! I don't have any experience with the Defender XT Pro with MagSafe, but my understanding is that the only feature it adds, in comparision to the Defender XT with MagSafe, is an antimicrobial coating.
Still no micro scratches under direct on the stainless band coating from inserting removing cases on your pacific blue? Let me know as I want to get a pacific blue if it is as resilient as the Gold
Hi Mark! So, I looked again, and I did find a few tiny micro scratches, but I don't think they are from case insertion/removal. The only area where I found the scratches is around the lightning port opening...so, I am guessing they are from plugging cables in to charge...

Nothing that I could see. The sides are a fingerprint magnet, but when you wipe the fingerprints off, everything looks beautiful. Also, what time zone are you in!! I'm surprised you aren't asleep!
@@TheTechReviewer I work I Manila, Philippines and because of Covid, I will be staying indefinitely. Basically I am +12 EST. So nothing Kirsten? Like absolutely zero hairline micro scratches? Fingerprints are fine as those are unavoidable and can be cleaned, just those hairline micro scratches that can only be seen under bright direct lights and sometimes angling it, all over the stainless frame. Ice inspected my gold one and nothing, however, I do not have a blue one and you are the only other person I know. Help 😁

Not in my experience, Chirag. I don't think the material of the case will scratch the phone. However, if dust or dirt gets trapped in between the case and the phone, then that could cause scratching over time...

They did not do a good job with this case. I have always used this brand. I have been using this case for about a week. My two biggest issues are the holster and lack of camera protection. The holster is not secure and the phone easily falls out. I work EMS and like having the belt clip. I’m afraid I will lose my phone completely on a call or it will be damaged. I also wish the phone had better grip on the sides and back but this is minor in comparison to the other issues. I’m not sure if I should keep this one or return it and try a different brand. The other defender (without mag pro) & holster for the 12 pro was great but I really wanted to be able to use the mag pro accessories & charger.

What the difference between Defender and Defender XT? Cause I didn't get the XT. Never knew it was suppose to be better than the regular defender case. Should I get the XT?
MagSafe is basically the same as wireless charging except that it is faster (assuming you use the right charger) and the charger attaches magnetically to the back of the phone or phone case, so it finds the sweet charging spot every time.
@@TheTechReviewer Oh ok. Thanks for letting me know. Might have to get the XT then. I just seen a video where the Pro case didn't charge wirelessly either. I have kia k5 and it comes with a wireless charge built in it. I want to be able to use that. I think the XT case might be too thick to fit though lol.
