I am not Arabic but there is definitely very few sounds as beautiful and enchanting as the Oud. Middle Eastern music is so overlooked here in the West. Much love to all Oud players out there!
I like how well the sound of the two instruments blended together. I feel it's because they do share historical roots. It's unfortunate that they never reversed roles and had the guitar play lead with the oud accompanying. That would be interesting to hear.
I think that probably would not sound as nice as this. The oud is by its nature not as suitable for playing chords as the guitar is, which makes it less fit to be a background instrument. Plus it has to be played loud to get the right feeling out of it, whereas you can really gently play the guitars strings and still get a decent effect But that's just my opinion
instead of arguing which one is better I believe they sound beautiful together just in your piece here it shows how well they support each other I've always wanted an oud
Guys you can't say the Oud has beaten the Guitar, because you must know that the Oud has the "Solo" and Guitar was for the "background music" so each one had it's own role !!! All respect for both of them 💙
They are both beautiful instruments, each giving the player various emotions but in the end, they are all part of the string family and the more strings, the better!
Hmm...I’ve heard both instruments before, and they both have their own strengths and weaknesses. An oud sounds much more ecstatic, particularly on fast-paced riffs like in this piece, and carries a slight “twang” that gives it a very stark and powerful sound. The guitar is a jack-of-all-trades, it’s versatile and can play a variety of styles well. As with most music instruments, it isn’t a question of “which sounds better,” but rather “which sounds better for the composition.” Ultimately such things are subjective; though I’d hazard a guess that playing lead with a tuba on a flamenco tune would probably be a poor choice.
That was beautiful. I play both instruments. Couldn't pick one. Oud has captivating melodies and an incredible tone with so much room for subtlety. Guitar has so much flexibility plus easier chords.
Es logico que suene mas fuerte en este video. El oud tiene cuerdas dobles, se toca con pajuela o pula y su caja es mas profunda. Ademas, es un instrumento mayormente melodico, mas que armonico
guitar is not father of guitar you idiot, we had dozens of instruments that resembled guitar in Europe before you arabs even managed to invent an alphabet
As a teacher in the Arabian Gulf, I was able to show your video to my students so that they could see the strong connection between the Spanish Guitar and Arabic Oud in rhythms, intonation patterns and beat. I see both instruments as a symbol of Muslim and Christian brothers living together in peace as well. Ustedes tocan bastante bien juntos! Su musica tiene una atmósfera increible, y profundo de los tiempos antiguos. الف مبروك!
@@saintdante9642 Historically, you are correct. It has been known as the Persian Gulf since at least the time of Alexander the Great in 330BC. The Arabs have only tried to rename it since they gained oil wealth in 1960. However, since I was living with Arabs when I wrote the comment, I had to refer to it as the Arabian Gulf. 🙂
This is awesome! But I can't help but think that the title is misleading. It's more like "Oud and Guitar" rather than vs. I would expect the guitar to solo while the oud plays rhythm, more like a battle that way.
oud is louder. i like oud better. the guitar is tuned differently on the two thinnest strings so that you can comfortably play chords because of the frets. the oud has no frets and strings are tuned in 4ths. you can still do chords on oud, but you have to be accurate.
merci pour ce très beau duo dans lequel la compétition n'existe pas un bémol quand même: la casquette américaine est très déplacée n'y a-t-il pas des couvres-chefs plus en rapport avec cette sublime musique?
MrPisster I can't wait until Islam takes over those. Yet not the Wahhabi extremest way those. I into the way more Peaceful verstin of Islam The real thing. I been to a Muslim Country before I have to say I loved it.
+InsaneBassNinja uh, peaceful movements don't usually "take over" anything. I'm also aware of the difference between Wahhabi state-islamists and true islam (the word means submission to god) not "I got forced to obey these strict religious laws by my crazy government and people threatening to kill me." I have a friend that converted to sufism and she's pretty much the kindest most peaceful heart you'd ever meet.
+InsaneBassNinja I'm a Muslim and I think that's a crazy thing to say!.... Take over? .... what a scary thought! and where would it all end? The Quran never asked Muslims to take over anything ... only to preach the word God and let people decide what faith to follow. Conquests were done by ambitious "Muslim" men who were after wealth and power who forgot God's instructions.
they don't compete, they complete each other. You can feel the Oud complaining and screaming how life has been tough on him, and how he had just enough, no matter how he tried to do good he fails every time, yet he still has hope that things are going to be good. The Guitare is comforting him and saying it's ok, it will be good, have faith!
guitar here is for background if u want a real guitar pice go for Malaguena it have more emotion, but it doesn't mean that oud is bad actually i love it and the player here is a beast and a good example for the oud
I always keep this in my mind idk why. I feel like that oud is speaking words. I still like the guitar tho, each has it's own characteristics And more over, the oud is more nostalgic than the guitar. While the guitar has more excitement sound.
Oud is an Arabic instrument and it sounds 1/8 note in the opposite way of the guitar. Because the Guitar will sound only 1/4 note. In this case, the Guitar will play SOLO in the most time than Oud:)
