Very good Tobin! They do sound like great knots and by your description, it has me rethinking my preferences on brushes. These newer fibers really jump past the one thing that I don't like in some natural brushes and that's the scritch. It does open up things and I might have to try out some of the newer synthetics. I do a lot of "paint" painting, so there is definitely a happy medium where you have softness, control, and flow and it would the same for lather brushes. I don't need a ton of backbone for scrubbing, but I do need some to control where I'm painting on the lather. Very interesting. Have a good one!

Synthetics have made some GIANT leaps forward the past few years! You have the Astraeus correct? And if I recall correctly you like that one right? I LOVE those fibers and can't wait for PAA to revisit it in a 24mm or 26. With painting, I think you'd be happy with the Regular Density of the ST-1 but also very happy with the STF. It's funny how something small can make you change how you do things. I recently moved into a place with a smaller bathroom, and brushes with more backbone are getting my mirror dirty. I feel like Reed! Dense badgers don't fling it as much, and synthetics with less backbone are working better for me. I'd probably opt for the less dense option with these, just because of logistical reasons.

@@Tobins_throwbacks No, I am going to order one during their anniversary celebration 4.17 - 4.24. I saw that it takes a couple of uses to loosen up the splay, but asking for 60mm loft should skip that. I tried their motherlode knot and I enjoyed that very much.

Im confused, are you comparing muhle STF to ST1? Or they both ST1 with one being extra dense? How does the ST1 regular compare to the STF regular ? I like gel like softness with easy spraying. I don't need much backbone and I'm torn between the stf and st1

@brandonkriegerKNSS Mine are the bulbs. The difference is small. Basically, a fan splays more easily and a bulb has a little more backbone. To me, they are extremely similar. If you look on the Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements website, they have an Atomic Rocket bulb and an Atomic Rocket Fan. The only difference is the shape of the knot. I personally prefer a bulb.
