Having seen this a million times in the 80's I ALWAYS kept pot handles "toined in" around children. A couple times felt it may have made a difference. But I don't want to know. Just glad I saw this so many times it was burned into my memory when I became an adult.
Haha yes, I get at my wife for leaving handles hanging out over the edge, I don't want burns on my stomach, legs, feet even if I am an adult! It's a good safety tip, even without children in a home.
To this day forward, this commercial always made me remember to keep dangling cords out of reach, to keep goodies away from heat, and to keep those pot handles turned in!
"Remember! Hot water can burn in less than threeeeee seconds!" -- Tweety Bird. I guess it worked pretty well, seeing as how I remember the takeaway message after what? Thirty years?
This is one of the greatest PSA's in television history. It had aired for nearly a decade, and I always enjoyed watching this. And yes, I've seen it more times than I could comfortably count. I think it's a beautiful thing to know how a character like Bugs Bunny truly cares for people like us. He believes strongly in keeping children safe, healthy, and well-educated. There have been other PSA's on TV that featured Bugs, and they're the best, too. God Bless You, Bugs Bunny. And may your heart of gold continue to shimmer and shine.
When I first saw this as a very young kid, I didn’t really understand that this was a psa. All I knew was it was bugs bunny in a commercial, so I’d watch it despite not really knowing what they were talking about.
That's Right and kids listen to Bugs Bunny's kitchen safety rules it's very important that you listen and pay attention about being safe especially staying away from pots with hot boiling water that can really burned your hand which is not very good. Remember what Bugs Bunny said, So to stay out of hot water, keep those pot handles toined in aka turned in not out.
There were a couple other PSAs around the same time, one had Daffy Duck and it was about fire prevention, and the other had Tweety Bird and was about the dangers of hot water in general. Part of the animation of the pot from this one was re-used in the Tweety one.
I love this. Look America, we all have this memory in common. Isn’t this a great break from political and racism topics etc.? Let’s just acknowledge we have so many similarities for one second. A breath of fresh air.
It would be nice if the full version ever shows up, I'm sure it was one of those deals where schools and organizations would get such a a film or tape for their library and only stayed there.
This PSA was corny as all hell, but damned if it wasn't effective. I consciously keep pot handles turned in, even now that my kid is a teenager and knows better. Bugs Bunny's voice still rings in my head every time I cook on the stove.
If we were experiencing covid in the 80s, i would imagine having more service announcments like this for kids and grown ups. Its sad if u think about cuz these commercials were intended for "latch key" kids who were coming home to no one. But on the bright side these commercials would inform and even make songs in ways of informing the general public
i like the rescue 911 episode where the mom is frying tortillas in 1000 degree oil and plugs in it with the cord through a doorway with a toddler in the house.
@@funkmonster I think what Abcdede Films Inc. means is, those kitchen appliances are probably what Dora the Explorer would’ve looked like had it been made in the ‘80s.
