►A race car’s wild flares, wings, and splitters are just as memorable as the sounds they make and how they drive. Our Golden Era Project needed to emulate those late-90s DTM cars as best as possible, and there was no better way to do that than with a period-correct widebody kit replicating the original championship-winning Mercedes 190E. However, a three-month-long ordeal bringing over the body kit from Europe has put the team on the back foot as they scramble to get the 190E 2.0-16 ready for Gridlife Circuit Legends.
Following its successful public unveiling at Gridlife Circuit Legends, the Golden Era Project still needed enormous work. The rolling shell was devoid of fluids, wiring, and drivetrain, so the team had their work cut out for them. Upon arriving home at FCP Euro HQ, the systematic work began to bring the 190E 2.0-16 to life.
Engine prep begins with a visit from Schaeffler and a haul of fresh ignition components and ancillaries before the transmission is bolted to it for the final time. At the same time, the shell is fitted with its fuel system, brake lines, and wiring, finalizing it for its mating with the drivetrain. After nearly a year, the first fire-up is tantalizingly close.
