If you know anything about Orwells, he resigned from the BBC because he talked about how draconian the practices they used to makeup the news purposely against the people in the colonies and propagandize for the British empire. You certainly don't need any tech at all to be like Orwell's novel.

I am a Shanghainese living in California USA. Today I found your channel by chance and learned that you live in Songjiang Shanghai. It looks so familiar to me because my parents are in Songjiang and I take Metro Line 9 from the University Town Station very often when I am back home. I stayed 6 months last year in Shanghai and I will come back again this summer. Maybe I could met you on the metro. I enjoyed your videos (especially the music) and I'll watch all of them. 😊

Definitely a bargain for such a beautiful apartment. You would have paid at least three times more for a smaller apartment in the city center. Near subway lines always helps, as it makes the distance less of a concern.
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
I totally agree. Our last apartment was a tiny one bed studio that flooded every time we showered or used the washing machine. It was near the city centre but cost triple what we are paying now! Not worth it in my opinion although it was nice being so close to lots of cafes!
@Thomas-Chin10
@Thomas-Chin10 Год назад
@@ExpatNatt Wow! The landlord had the obligation to fix the plumbing/leaking problem. Or the contract should have indicated that the apartment is delivered in working condition. I would hold the rent until they fix this problem. Since your partner is a native, I wonder if he had wanted to deal with the landlord or leasing company. It wouldn't be pleasant for sure. I definitely wouldn't put up with this if I had your old apartment.
@ExpatNatt

Great watch, very interesting. I'd like to know more about the apartment complex as I am due to move to the area early next year for a teaching job. The apartments look fantastic. Enjoy your adventures...
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
This is one of a very few government run complexes as my boyfriend has Shanghai identity and gets a subsidy for it. It’s our first time living in such a complex so I’m not sure what others are like but from other complexes I’ve visited, most are just the buildings and don’t have a social area/private shops and restaurants. Most communities will have a post room to collect your packages but some will deliver to your door. I really depends where you live. The closer to the city centre you get, the more compact the apartment complex is. This is very spacious because it’s in the countryside. I highly recommend finding somewhere close to your workplace and the trek kills me 😂😂 If you have any questions, let me know, or you can reach out on Instagram (expatnatt) ☺️
@davidcottrell3815
@davidcottrell3815 Год назад
@@ExpatNatt Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. With the complex being government owed does that mean there are restrictions on who can rent a unit? Would an expat teacher be able to rent do you think?
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
@@davidcottrell3815 Honestly I’m not sure, I’m the first foreigner to live in this complex but it is in my boyfriends name and he is Chinese. If you can speak fluent Chinese then I think you’d be able to argue your way into most complexes. They don’t usually like foreigners due to communication barriers and certain rental laws but they can charge a lot more if you’re foreign. Your best bet for finding somewhere to live would be to find an English speaking agent who can help you to find somewhere that accepts foreigners.
@ExpatNatt
@ExpatNatt Год назад
I should add, they usually don’t care what your job is or if you even have one. None of my teacher friends have had any issues finding somewhere to live.

There really is nothing like that out this way. It’s not rural but it’s also not the city centre… it’s mostly just industrial buildings and empty flat land waiting to be developed.
