The amount of work you do boggles my mind. I thought I had big gardens, but you win! In my 87 years, I look forward to your videos. Thank you for what you do!
A tip I picked up from one of the Allotment channels YEARS ago..... If you have pest problems in your carrot bed? When you plant the carrots? Plant them with onions in alternating rows. The Carrot Flies hate onion, and the Onion Flies hate carrots! You know, I'm really hoping I haven't written this on a previous video. I hate getting old.
Put a safety chain on your hot beds s o when open the wind can't make the lids fly open and break the glass. You two are my 100% favorite channel. Be safe.
Unlike a lot of those so-called DIY RU-vid bloggers who either contract a large portion of their work out to professionals and only do the minimal, you have done a whole spectrum of work which nobody can replicate! Good for you!! You really are the down to earth DIY/bush-crafter/frontier blazer and also extreme hard worker!! You have demonstrated that you not only worked hard but you also did hunting and fishing for fun and survival. Keep up the good work and have fun doing it too!!!!
I’m I the only one who clicks like before the video even starts 🎉- thanks for another great 👍 video. You guys have made a lot of progress on your home!
In the last week, I have drove across the country with my 2 dogs, (Tampa to LA) hopped on a plane to the Philippines and got into Cebu and finally arrived at my hotel 100% beat up and exhausted. Checked RU-vid before sleeping and saw my favorite couple had posted. Guess I won't be sleeping for 44 more minutes. 😛 Been a fan for years and will continue watching from the Philippines.
Dear Eric and Arielle, I am mesmerized at all the work you are doing building your greenhouses hot beds, planting all your plants, berries, herbs, flowers, trees and all your work keeping the chickens and chicks. I pray all your hard work will give you a FULL HARVEST OF GOOD FOOD LATER IN THE SEASON. God bless you all and have a good rest. Happy Father's Day to both your dads and to Eric too even if no children he has his hands full with Bandit, cat, birds, chicks. Cheers to you all🙏💖🌺🥰 p.s.: hope the hail did no damage...
“It’s hard to build a garden and plant it in one year, but hey, we’re go getters”. This quote from Eric is a beautiful, accurate description of this couple. Love what you do together.
Goodness me but you two don’t let the grass grow under your feet. When you set out to do anything you do it 110%. From nothing you now have a very productive garden for years to come. You’re amazing. Love the videos. Stay safe xx
I won't be around in five years to see the fruits of your labor, but I will keep an eye out from above. I wish you a bountiful harvest. Perfection again.❤
I don't know your situation, but your comment stopped me in my tracks. A prayer for you... Dear Lord, I pray to you asking you to comfort @judygillespie3242, give joy, love and strength for whatever is to come. Amen 🙏
@christivbosch565 Thank you for your prayers and concern. I guess I was just being too realistic. Some thoughts we should keep to ourselves. I loved to garden, and watching them just hit me in a sentimental spot. My wish for you is health and happiness😊
You Two. At 60 my hopes of living in Alaska have passed. Keep Vlogging. I'm living my Alaska dreams thru your vlogs. Love you two! Keep living the Alaska dream. I'll keep watching.
1950 hotbeds consisted of fresh cow manure 💩on the bottom of a 18 inch hole in the ground. Recent sawdust on top of that and then the topsoil. the fresh 💩and sawdust would go through a heat, bacteria breakdown, which generated heat. This method was great for early starts And fresh greens during the winter.❤
You guys are awesome! I have been watching your videos for years now. You are responsible for me catching the"Alaska" bug. I had to talk my husband into a long road trip last yr. We drove/camped from KY across Canada to AK and back into WA, OR, CA, AZ, NM, CO, TX, and back to KY. We had the time of our life. Thank you for the inspiration. You keep making videos, and we will keep watching....
I love seeing all the animal pictures in the beginning of the video!! Add flower beds look really great 👍👍❤ I love you flowers too and the pretty butterflies!! I love listening to you two while you are working on them& hopefully learning something. You're one of the greatest couples!!❤❤🙂✌️👍👋✌️👍👋🌺🪷🌼🌲🌲🌲🪻🪴🪴🪴🫎🫎🦮🐦⬛🐦🐥🐤🐥🐤🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔🐓🐔
Scrolling thru the comments and seeing how EVERYONE is amazed and delighted with ALL of your hard work. I lived in AK for 40 years; I think you two are terrific AK Ambassadors. I love all of your videos. Keep up the great work!!
As all the other people have said, you two are the hardest-working couple that I know of. You are so blessed to have one another. I can't wait for the new episodes to come out. No gold, keep planting!
Just barely started the video but was awestruck so have to comment early about how wildly the property vibe has changed with the construction projects and spring growth, it's sooo beautiful!
I just love this couple and everything they have accomplished so far. I'm so happy that ya'll have more land that's flat to accomplish more things as the months and years pass.
Awwww love the porcupig...as I fondly call them. That hail was crazy. Loving all the garden beds and herb boxes and the cool hot beds. I love them! So nice to have all that garden room in the big space all protected and kinda cozy really. Safe and sound. I so love tamarack trees. And once established they grow incredibly fast. Everything is looking wonderful and can not believe you even got that all accomplished! So exciting! hugs
Sometimes it surprises me how much I love finding your videos. You are like a dear friend. I'm not the only one. You must feel the love coming at you from everywhere! Thank you for sharing your lives.
Oh!!!! I would be in hog heaven. I would so love to be there with my hands in the dirt with you. But I’m afraid my gardening days are almost over. Gonna have my 80 birthday soon. That doesn’t keep me from enjoying watching you guys. Love it. Wishing you lots of luck and God’s blessings.
I'm from the Netherlands, and because it's relatively cold here we use a lot of greenhouses. In the summertime it however can get 25-35 celsius. Hence, during the summertime farmers use chalk they solidify in water and spray that on top of the greenhouses. After the heat, they just wash it down with water. Environment-friendly, cheap, easy to use, and easy to get rid of. Don't want to tell you what to do, just as a tip. Hope it may help you. Good luck, it looks good!
I can only imagine how it feels to work without hats and heavy jackets and long pants, after so many months having to bundle up. What an enormous amount of work you've done, and you'll reap the rewards of that infrastructure for decades.
It is my First year of gardening. I watched all your old Videos and learned so much. My Kids Love the First salad of the Garden. Our new habbit ist, that we watch the tomatoes every morning. ❤ From Germany
There are no words to describe the energy you put into your garden! I can’t recall a project that you short changed yourselves. You two always aim for perfection and it shows in the design of your garden . Can’t wait to see it at harvest time!👏💕🙏🏻
Witnessing the creation of an 8,000 SQFT Alaska garden with hot beds, berries, and trees is incredible. The dedication and effort put into this project are truly inspiring!
the beauty in realizing you two and the life you've created is the real gold. I remember seeing a couple dig a pit and plant their fruit trees in a buried greenhouse...maybe Wisconsin?
Your 8,000 square foot Alaska garden project is truly inspiring! Watching you build hot beds and plant berries and trees shows your dedication to sustainable living and gardening expertise. Your passion for cultivating beauty and sustainability is evident in every detail. And I am Floating Village Life, celebrating your green thumb
I’ve been meaning to comment for the last year about how skilled you’ve become with your camera work and editing. Even your music selections seen more thoughtful. Your drone footage of both the surrounding area and your homestead are especially pleasing and interesting. I’ve watched all your videos and while I’m a huge fan, I’ve never wanted to live this lifestyle. That said, you inspire me to do more gardening. I can’t say how much I admire all you two do.
If any 2 folks deserve to find gold, the 2 of you do. Love the care you take with planting your garden, or making a chicken coop and run, or preparing food, or interacting with each other, or making really wonderful videos or sharing your life with us. Thank you for a world of inspiration.
It was fun to imagine what your garden was going to look like at first, but now I'm just stunned at the size you're taking on - glory it's going to be a minnie forest!! Just amazing and exciting!! Are you going to be hustling come harvest time 😲 Annnd of course there should be cold weather planting.....right?!! Wow, the options are wide open! You'll certainly have some lovely choices to look forward to for winter eating; but hey, with the relentless work you have both put in, you'll certainly deserve it!! You don't need to pan for gold, you've got gold in each other!! Stay safe, be verrrry happy!!🥰
60 years or so ago, my parents use to grow Strawberrys commercially, back then they were a two-year crop. First year you would pick the runners and all of the blooms. The runners that were picked would be replanted for future crops. Second year your berries will be bigger.
My grandfather grew them in rows 3’ apart, and he trained the runners into the space between rows, then the next year they became the plants he picked and he tilled the previous ones under. So essentially the same idea- the plant that produces is always in its second year.
💚 Absolutely AWEmazing what you two have done to get that garden in! It looks great. What a lot of work, dine so well, so quickly..really impressed with the hot boxes! Love seeing you in that tye dye T-shirt, Eric. 💚
We came to Alaska 22 yrs ago to raise our six kids and brought with us our French Intensive Raised Vegetable Gardening skills. Increadible beds and can't wait to see the results. That is THE COOLEST pea trellis. You may want to consider a little guest cabin for summer garden volunteer help. IT"S HUGE!
Your garden looks fabulous! So much room, so many plants! You're wise to be careful with plants that spread by their root system. Way back when, somebody gave my dad a start of timber bamboo, there was talk of fishing poles. So my dad planted it along side the garden, by the garage. Such a mistake! It started to spread, we had bamboo shoots coming up thry the floor boards in the garage, under the house, throughout the garden, the driveway! Then, just to add insult to injury, dad decided to plow that part of the garden. We had a big Farm All tractor (comparable to yours). As he came down that side of the garden the plowshare caught on the bamboo roots. It stopped that tractor dead in its tracks. Dad had to get the axe to free it up. Dad never got his bamboo fishing pole, but he had a fine stand of timber bamboo, some of it over 25ft high. ❤️❤️Love to all. Lori from Oregon.
My then-husband and I planted a tamarack about 25 years ago, about the size you have there. It is SO beautiful year round, but especially in the fall, when the needles turn bright yellowish-orange. It is like a huge flame halfway down our driveway in our yard. It has gotten very big, about 45-50 feet tall! You'll love yours, I think. Thanks for this gardening video--I love your gardening videos sooo much!🌻Oh, and I'm close to your zone, in upper VT, pretty cold, though not a ZONE I!
Your work is unbelievable, I’m 82 years old and I so enjoy watching your videos. Reminds me of my husband and I, 30 years ago in Michigan always had a big garden.
FYI: What you are constructing is called a Cold Frame. "A cold frame is a bottomless box with a transparent roof that sits on the ground and protects plants from adverse weather conditions. It's a basic plant forcing structure that functions like a small greenhouse, allowing gardeners to extend their growing season by two to four weeks in the spring and fall."
Pretty sure a hot bed is usually done in a green house when you put manure in a raised bed then top it with thick layer of soil in winter to generate heat
Also, a cold frame is usually built at an angle the same way you angle solar panels based on latitude. That way on days too cool to open it you are still getting direct sunlight on the plants. Ideally they are built against the south side of a house, so they are warmed by the lost heat of the house as well. Even when the ground is still frozen a cold frame will grow things like radishes and greens.
Now that is definitely the most amazing garden yet! Built to last a lifetime, I must say. That daisy is beautiful and your stamina and ingenuity blow us all away. Always look forward to your videos ❤❤❤
You guys, I know your tired because your working your ass off!!!!!!! As a viewer though it is fantastic to watch your vision come together! It went from a field, to one with no stumps and logs. Then flattened out, and fenced. Right up to where your at today and it's amazing! Don't feel bad about the gold mine, hell I want you to drill test holes for oil anyway! Okay maybe after everything is finished and you have to tear it all down for the oil wells. Eric every time you grab that blow torch I'm yelling creme brulee, what with all those eggs. Hey just me though. It looks like some of those plants have not only started but have took hold! I'm looking forward to watching you this summer but worried about your time management, think about freezing this year and not as much canning. Pace yourselves, your both really ambitious and you don't want to get over your heads to much. You move on every 5 years or so. You have plenty of time to get it all in. A really great job there!!!!!!!!!
I really worry about their backs and shoulders!😔 They really use them to an extreme! I’ll just keep praying for their safety…I’m a retired RN, with an abused back, a torn up shoulder (of course )and could be their grandma! I’m pretty fond of these two…
Of course You guys have gold. Just look around You. That's more than gold to me. I'm from Patagonia and I honestly wish I could live your lifestyle for at least one. Cheers guys!
Great looking garden!! I have to thank you so much for the Toum idea for preserving garlic over the winter. It is a big winner in our house! I have also been making Alaska garden “sofrito” by blending oil, herbs, alliums and peppers as they mature. Then I stick it in ziplock bags, flatten the bags so they are less than 1/8” thick, and freeze them. Then later I can break off what I want to cook with it. A tablespoon or two for sauté or pan frying, or a whole bag for a sauce or slow cook. One of my favorite is chives, oregano, parsley, garlic scapes, olive oil and shishito peppers. Thanks for sharing all your hard work! Happy Summer!
Truly amazed with each and every video. Ariel and Eric, you both are hardworking, creative, determined, so very intelligent, caring, nurturing, entertaining, strong and have shown over and over that you can do absolutely anything you set your mind to. Oh and i think maybe a little magical too 🪄 The gardens are spectacular! I'm so excited to see it grow. Thank you for being here on RU-vid As always, sending positive vibes and blessings from northern Indiana
Pronunciation Police here again. When you were planting the trees you got, you had some well known in my north Idaho home area as Tamarack, or "The Larch". If you can hold on for 40 years or so, you'll have some of the best fire wood ever...it burns hotter, longer, and with the least ash of any thing we ever had there. I cut, split, stacked and hauled more of it than anything. Fascinating channel..! Keep up the good work.
Wow wow wow you guys!!. You absolutely created a beautiful garden space. It is so amazing to see how much progress you two have made on the new homestead. I went back and did some binge watching, and I just can not believe how different the place looks. I am so excited for you guys. I am looking forward to your next video. Stay safe and enjoy your sunny days.
My friend. When you're going to be out in skeeter season, start yourself a little smolder fire. Small and smokey. It'll help with the bugs. 😊find a closeish up wind spot and set a bucket of wood on fire, add handfuls of wet wood and leaves. You have my sympathy, i live right next to a river, and the mosquitoes are awful every year.
I wanted to say thank you for your videos. It has inspired me to finally plan my trip to Alaska this October and November. I cannot wait! Sorry about Bo! He is missed! Thank you for all your hard work while making sure we stay entertained.
