We had to put our 12-year-old dog to sleep yesterday morning and it turned out to be a lot harder than I had expected. A lot of mixed thoughts and emotions ran through me and had me thinking about a lot of things. Here are my thoughts.

I love your video. Sorry for your loss. I had my dachshund of 13 years old, she was dying, deteriorating fast at the end of her life, but she was waiting for me to come home from work, waging her tail as she could, being happy I had make it back home and died in my arms😢😢😢

It takes time for the pain to stop after the loss of a dog. Our dog died back in 2020 and it was the worst day of my life. I still miss her daily. We have little trinkets of her in our house and a couple memorial stones in our yard. Since then we got another dog and she is filling the void. She was like our child and we loved her dearly. She was a rescue dog also and everything just clicked with us after we took her home. Wishing u well!

Luckily my daughter, who has moved back in with us for a while, has a 2 year old pit bull that is helping fill that void right now. It’s not the same but it does help

So sorry for your loss. My wife and I got a dog a month after we married. Later we found out we were unable to have kids and he truly became like our child. He lived to be 16 and we had to make the difficult decision to have him euthanized due to some health issues. It was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever made.

Greg, really sorry for your loss. Just seeing the pain in your eyes has me sad. Your story is very similar to when I had to put my cat down. From the doubts, to the random perk up moments, all the way to how you felt when they walked in the room. Glad you’re still able to put this out to the world. I’m sure it makes you stronger.

So sorry for your loss. When we lost our dog of 17 years it ushered in our new dog. While certainly our new dog could not replace our old friend, had he not passed when he did, we wouldn't have the joy and memories of our new friend! Thanks for sharing!

Sorry to hear that! My cat abruptly died a few months back, so I know what it's like. One random thought: WHY do people want others to either be a "Dog person" OR a "Cat person"? Why can't we be BOTH? I personally prefer cats to dogs, but I love dogs, as well. Sorry for your loss!

Golden retrievers are "love-buckets" , the more you put in the more you'll get in return. They're not needy but content to be the loyal sentry. I just got a GR on CL that was shut down and in poor health. I suspect the family that bought her in PA probably got her from a puppy mill. It's taken many months work to get her to find her confidence, and now she's the social butterfly at the dog park. The worst fact is 60% will die of cancer. Your emotions are valid and show your humanness. Just remember her smile, she's smiling in her memories.

Greg, sorry to hear you had to put your dog down. We had to put our first pet down a few years ago. I’m not a cryer..and I held it together pretty well…until we got to the vet and reality set in. I cried for quite a while. It’s a tough thing. The bond with a pet can be so strong.
