The most important thing was the invention of the wood saw mill which allowed the Dutch to build ships 30 times faster than the others and, together with the Dutch introducing modern capitalism, subsequently led to the Dutch doing more than half of Europe's trade. This made the Dutch Republic filthy rich, which was important for the whole world because without that wealth the Dutch couldn't have held out against Spain, Portugal, France, Britain and Germands, sometimes even teaming up against the Dutch. With the Dutch Republic's survival, Dutch values like relgious tolerance, modern capitalism, upward social mobility, the citizen and civil rights, could spread over Europe.
