Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!

On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.

Hey Gly - Does Laura have her own vehicle? Why not drive to the closest town that has an old mining museum and video the trip to the museum? Even just a tour around some small town out where you are at...visit the post office, a local eating place, and just a general view of the area and share the beauty. Not every single video has to be a mine explore. I think it would just be cool to have an occasional change on the Wednesday video during these times. I'd watch it for sure!

First off ... don't stress out on producing videos! Your dedicated viewers understand! Life throws curve balls ... sick ... bob ... whatever! I'm with you. Bob is your lifeline and you can't put a price tag on equipping Bob so that he can bring you both back home safely. The price of a recovery tow outweighs the $$$$ you put in it! As for doing reruns, do what you need to do for the other audiences. I'm fine waiting for a new productions. Take care! but ... the introduction of Laura is a GOOD rerun!

The clickey noise, I hate it when that happens. Here lately if it weren't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all. The reruns are a great way to get re-aquainted with this awesome mine while ol'Bob is getting fixed. Then we will be ready for the explore video of the new adventures yet to come. Hang in there.

Well that rebuild of that axles really sounds like somebody had no idea what they were doing and no skills to pull them through. I suspect no time was spent cleaning out the Housing. Perhaps it was an alignment problem that caused enough material to shake loose and travel over to the axle bearings and abrade them into nothingness... In any case it sounds pretty fishy good luck, I feel bad for Bob, and well of course you and Lora

Gly , & Laura , I am so sorry to hear about old Bob having more issues . Don’t worry or stress yourselves about being sick , breakdowns , weather whatever ! Do what you have to do to make old Bob bullet proof . It sounds like you are on top of what to make the rear axle bullet proof . I will watch whatever you post no matter if old videos or site always a great time when I watch. As always be careful out there , hope you get old Bob back soon.

Make sure on reassembly eather axle grease the new bearings or Jack each end of the housing so the 80/90 flows out to the bearings. Otherwise the ring gear has to sling it in the tube. By the time that happens the bearings burn! 40yrs of rebuilding rearends & transmissions! Good luck

A nice review, Gly. I know EXACTLY where you are - been there many times, but not inside there. Keep in mind the reduced oxygen levels at the 9,000-10,000 foot elevation. Also, your comment about the temperature... you're in an area with 12-month drift snow and 100% humidity. Anything fibrous (i.e. processed lumber) is going to absorb that moisture and rot; just as you discovered on that ladder. Be cool, and be safe when you continue the exploration this year.

Seen this episode on its 1st. showing. It was quite the explore! Very daunting adets for "forward movement". Now, seeing it again, but with your new "exploring pal". Neat mineral colors on walls before you found the drift. (such silliness..."monk sounds". ha,ha.) Well that ladder, downward climb was suspensful. Its always re-assuring with you, weighing your "way in", but thinking about "ah, hmm, the way back out." Good decision to come back w/ropes you two. See you next week.

Gly you need dana 60 1 tons front and rear with long arm suspension and you will have a better ride and you can get over most obstacles .

i havent been around in a long time, had my own fight with the cancer monster, but it is good to see you are still exploring mines. I am still recovering from treatment but i hope to get back to being able to walk again with aid of medical devices. glad you are still doing what you love to do gly!! even if bob is a basket case with bad stuffs from cacafornia i spose i have allot of videos to catch up on anyway. but its good to still be on this side of the dirt to watch you do your thing.

You should really look at taking some of these artifacts back with you and open up a museum. I know you don’t like taking things out of mine, but if you don’t, history will be lost and nobody can actually experience by visually looking at it themselves if you don’t.

Glad you found out early, on a fairly easy run, not some FUBAR deep hills trek. You're too old and broad shouldered around the middle for 35 mile hikes! heh heh heh Good idea upgrading axles etc. On that sorta stuff, unless you HAVE to go cheap, it's better to be safe. Less swearing and tizzy fits later on, in my experience. Good luck!

Something real strange with that axle. Is the housing bent? Sounds like one of those Ford Bronco axles that go through right side axle shafts.

Is this kind of underground (or really any) still being done much of anywhere in the U.S.? I would tend to think that it is all open pit or some kind of other types of extraction done now. All them shoring and wood techniques must pretty much be a lost art. That is one thing about that desert - wood can last decades underground hundreds of feet deep. Also, have you ever thought of trying to find historical arial photography of these locations. The U.S. Gov't took a lot of that during the late thirties all over the U.S.

Jeep, just empty every pocket. I own 3 of the goofy things, if you use em regularly they will breakdown. Getting good parts these days is getting hard, just because they are new don't mesn they are good. Take a deep breath, and keep stepping it will work out eventually. I'll watch what ever you put out.

I don’t know if you believe or not but right hand of the screen you can see a white anomaly come from no where right in on the screen and disappear. That’s so cool it will be when your looking at the wench 34:27/53:36 . It’s white and it just floats into view and disappears. That’s so cool I don’t know if anyone else saw it but this is wow and amazing. I know you don’t believe in ghosts but that is a amazing catch on camera. I had to replay the video serval times and yes that’s a anomaly that passes by . I’ve experienced ghost that’s a class A anomaly. Very awesome I can’t find words to describe it

First off, just cause it's new doesn't mean it's better. Junky replacement parts are just like the new junky parts used in an overpriced whatever. Nothing is as good as it was fifty years ago. And some of that wasn't as good as it was thirty or more years before that. Plastic and electronics just mean it's going to go to the crusher sooner.
