I m Canadian citizen since 2008 and I had the same story. I was planning/ thinking about buying house than during my search one of my friends said you can buy only one house that is no issue at all. I am trying to get help for everything from Quran /hadis and didn’t find any permission for buying one home on interest from bank. Since than I m living in Toronto on rent. Let me tell you all my family friends and everyone make a fun of me said those who cannot afford or those who have no credit rating make some layman excuses to not to buy home while actually they cannot afford. Only few people knew that I used to work in bell and metro.ca head office had handsome salary. My conclusion is think about your grave forget everyone else and take each step in your life like you’re standing in court and you have to justify your each and every step why did you do that? Here if nobody asked you than obviously after death life you will be answerable.

Guys, whenver the debate of Riba/interest is discussed. I've few questions. 1. In Pakistan (Islamic country), the interest rate is way higher than the western countries. pick a category, house, car on lease, personal loans etc. but here despite Islamic banking exists, still the % rate is v high, if u want to lease car, the current interest rate is 25-29% In US (non Islamic country). you can lease a car on 1.5% rate. 2. the return which banks give to customers, how can somebody make sure in Islamic country, it was not earned on a non halal stream of income? Most banks don't declare how they are distributing the dividends. What my understanding is that interest is present in somehow any possible way in our lives and unfortunately, in Pakistan its more rampant which most people don't realize.

Good thing that you are against mortgage but there are other points to be considered that might have changed your decision about buying a home. 1. Having $50,000 for downpayment doesn’t make it easier for buying a home, you need proper income stream to qualify for buying a home which both of you doesn’t have. 2. You guys didn’t even research or plan and were making decisions merely on watching random youtube videos and when reality hit you guys came to know the real scenario. Thinking of buying a home in your first here with no jobs even is biggest foolishness. 3. People here work for years to be eligible to buy a home, its not as easy as you think. To qualify for a mortgage you have to go through a stress test which is 8% rightnow, which mostly people are rejected at. 4. You guys were getting views before and now you aren’t and no proper jobs you both know its next to impossible to buy a home. Good for you to give a message against riba but please its my kind request, stop misguiding people just for the sake of views, its not easy to buy a home in canada, if it was you would have bought a home by now. So when you know its hard to buy, instead of telling everyone the challenges you guys have ahead which I’m sure is the biggest reason for you not buying a home, you are giving a lecture on halal haram.

Bhai you are talking about financing home which you are saying is haram in Islam. What about you are taking Canadian Child Benefits. That also is haram because that money also comes from liquor mart and casino revenue. It means you are still feeding haram to your kids
Major portion of benefits come from taxes paid by everybody, then government invests that money in different places to grow it. Therefore it is not haram. I know many people paying taxes more than 10,000$ per month. Some portion of the tax money goes to education, health care and child benefit.

I guess they realized that they cannot afford home so they are using religion to put their point across. I have at least 5-6 Pakistani neighbors and they all have their houses mortgaged and are open minded. I hate people that use religion as excuses to hide their incompetence. Good luck and God bless.

First of all, religion is a choice and your Pakistani friends have chosen to go beyond the commands of Allah. There are many muslims who chose not to buy a house on interest or conventional mortgage. E.g., myself. Our family income is more than enough to qualify and buy a house worth close to a million, but still, we chose not to by sticking to the commandments of Allah. I just came across this channel and was going through comments and found yours. I honestly dunno anything about these people, but if they are genuinely not willing to buy due to religious reasons, they won't buy even after getting proper jobs (from comments I understood they are jobless)... time will reveal the truth because buying a house in Canada on full cash takes at least a decade or two. So let's not judge !!

My children are getting Canada child benefit (CCB) and for sure the Canadian government is paying us from the ‘sood’ earned on its investments. Islamic financing is mixed with regular banking - Islamic banks have loans taken from unIslamic banks - so the root is again not halal. I’ve heard they are starting Islamic banking in Canada as well, haven’t researched into it but read this headline somewhere. But to me, there’s nothing different between regular and Islamic banks - Islamic Bank is just like a fatwa, or a green signal to let you go do what is forbidden. Yeh woh zamana hai jisme aap kitni koshish Karo halal kamanay ki, utna hi mushkil hai. One thing leads to another and in the end you realize your source wasn’t halal.
You are right only to an extent. There are no islamic banks in Canada or if they are their source is also interest based. However, proper islamic banks in Middle east (KSA, etc) provide Murahaba (for e.g) loans which is shariah approved and has no interest.
The person who suggested you not to go for mortgage is either jealous or not your well wisher. It is a business guys. Banks are doing business not a charity. It’s better for you to leave these western countries and try to settle in Pakistan.

Further research, thoughtful arguments, and relevance to contemporary circumstances are necessary to address this issue comprehensively.

Most people here who are complaining about this vlog probably have a mortgage. Mortgage is haram. What these guys are doing is a different topic. Have met a lot of people in canada who are hell bent on getting an interest based loan for a house, yet look for small print behind cheese. Mortgage is not allowed and is not a necessacity. EVERY big scholar says so. One of the biggest sins in both Islam and Christianity.

His model was copied by many banks which later launched their Islamic banking around the world… Dubai Islamic is one of them. Mufti Taqi Usmani is well known figure of Islam and his contribution towards Islam is unremarkable.
