About the internet and pornography issue: The Good And The Beautiful has a really good unit on maturation. The unit has a section on pornography, and why we should stay away from it. The videos talk about how pornography is just helping sex trafficking, it has interviews from people who were formerly addicted to porn where they tell how having a porn addiction has affected their lives, and they talk about how they got out of the addiction. The videos were really eye opening even for me as an adult. They are done in a really thoughtful way. We thought the whole unit was very well done.

Wow Sarah and Solo, this really hit home for me. I am a mother to a 8 yr old girl and a 6 yr old boy and they have known electronics for a long time. It started with me giving them my cell phone as toddlers to “quiet” them down or to keep them occupied while I grocery shopped. It then graduated to my husband and I buying them tablets to help them learn their numbers, colors, etc. I always monitored what programs that was on their tablets until march of 2020. All of a sudden I’m working from home with a toddler and a kindergartner…oh and my husband who broke his hip on a electric skateboard…but that’s a story for a different day 🙄Suddenly, things were chaotic at home BUT there wasn't anywhere else to go! So, I did give my kids their tablets for an unlimited time because I had meetings to attend, trainings, and reports to submit to court. My kids quickly became addicted to their tablets and their behaviors changed They cried and screamed when we would take the tablets away, they were wired at night. Then my 7 year old daughter begins chatting with other players from games and trying to explain to her the reasons why she couldn’t text other players when all she wanted to do was make friends...it had to stop. So, more than 8 months ago my husband and I took the tablets away from our children. It was difficult at first but after 2 weeks our kids stopped asking for their tablets. We've noticed that they interact better with each other and they are more creative with drawing, coloring, and imaginative play! We now monitor RU-vid content they watch as well because not everything on RU-vid is kid friendly! I love the advice and thank you both for all you share! Tell my nieces and nephews hi from LA! ❤🙏🏾

As a '90s baby I am so glad I had a normal childhood before electronics came into our household.

We had a horrible situation when our grandaughter at 14 was scammed and manipulated by someone on internet. We are dealing with the consequences years later. I hope parents will really listen to you!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

You are so right. Many parents wouldn't dream of letting their child go alone to the park, but will readily allow them to enter into the world wide web, unmonitored.

Sara I so love what you just said “we are trying to raise adults”. So many times I have watch people who have children that just forget that at some point their children will be considered adults in the real world and the real world will treat them that way whether they are ready or not. You two are doing a good job of raising responsible , caring, loving, people and that is not an easy thing to do.

I’m soon to be 63. I love children but my childhood wasn’t the best and I knew at a very young age that having a child was not for me. I have 4 brothers. I have lots of nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and my life is abundant with Joy and fulfilled as far as having children in my life! I also helped raise my husband’s 2 children, who are now in their 40’s! It seems it is such a difficult time with all of the internet and electronic games! We had TV and a pool table, many friends and my dad bought us a pong game! You two are wonderful parents and you have beautiful and kind children! Be Proud 🙏🏻🕊✝️🌸♥️

Nothing has shown us the need to govern ourselves more than the internet has. You can put all kinds of perimeters for others, but the heart is still bent toward evil. So thanks for the great content, guiding the innocent, and also helping kids learn to make good personal choices. -Sharon

Our theory was always, in protecting their eyes, ears, and minds, we are also protecting their hearts. I was in a counseling program for a month where phones were a no for the first two weeks, then not allowed during class times or in the building after that. It was such an eye opening time. It was like suddenly the world came alive in full color and sound again. Like the device fuzzed everything out a little because my brain was so used to being subconsciously connected to something else going on somewhere else. It was so crazy to stop and really notice how many people were looking down all the time. How many people would be out together but never talked to each other. How dependant I felt on the distraction every time I needed to wait for something. It was so surreal. But, having gone back to regular life, it's so easy to get sucked back in, even knowing what I know...

This is all so important! Thank you for speaking to it on this platform. I think there are parents who don’t even realize what they’re exposing their children to in this world, because it’s just the norm, and just need to learn. We don’t know what we don’t know! So thank you for using your voice!

I love what you said about how the Lord will show parents what they need to be aware of. After raising our four children, who are adults with kids of their own, this truth was so powerful, as the Lord would enlighten me to areas of concern, and then He would provide divine grace and mercy to show how to lovingly guide them.

This is so timely for me as my six year old autistic daughter is becoming more interested in devices . As a young teen I experienced the images and bullying from school peers that I should have had no access to ! In that time our parents had no idea what we were accessing . My husband's youngest sister said the other day she does not want to have kids and he was a little up set about that declaration but when I reminded him the climate of the country we live in is today and she might not want to bring children into an uncertain world

Great advice! My MIL has a neighbor who had their 14 year old granddaughter spend the night. They live in a small town and another neighbor heard a car door and she looked out the window and saw a man parked in their alley. She didn't recognize the person and watched him walk to the back of her neighbor's house and saw him enter a side window. She immediately called the police thinking she was stopping a burglary. What was happening was that the granddaughter had been talking with this "boy" and had let him in the window when her grandparents were asleep. This "boy" was in fact 32 years old and had driven several hours to meet this young lady. So not only are you protecting your children but others!! Who knows what would have happened if the police weren't called immediately. Many blessings to you and your family!!!

I agree when I worked at Sam's club part time i saw to many adults coming thru the line and they were hooked to their phones. I would see kids trying for parents attention that the parents were hooked to the phone. I wanted to shout put the phone down people pay attention to the little ones that are striving for your attention.

Thank you for raising awareness and practical tips on this very important topic! About a decade ago I was staying with a bunch of teenagers for a friend who was out of town (including exchange students). I remember feeling very uneasy about all of them on the internet in their bedrooms with the doors closed. I was down stairs, silently panicking, wondering how I could protect them and I couldn't think of good solution in my position and I felt awful!

I agree not letting your children not be on the internet or social media, parenting helps in the home while they are under your care but prayer will be needed as they become adults and leave your home because we can all honestly say we now as adults we were taught things in our home but the world unfortunately provides enticements that curiosity trumps values sometimes, so I do what is necessary in the beginning and when and if they pull away they will have the foundation to I PRAY come back, but we may experience a prodigal child whether we want to or not

If you live in a different country from your family like I do and like Solo does...then you probably think that the internet is a blessing in spite of all its dangers.💯

I agree with you! It is so important to monitor internet use with your kids. Also, you hit the nail on the head with commercials. Even young children’s shows have inappropriate commercials! Great video.

My oldest son is a protective soul. He makes sure that I have protective settings on my internet accounts. I have him check things out before I do things because he will help keep me safe. I was very protective of my children as they grew up and they are very protective of me as well. When my boys were growing up we had flip phones that didn't have any options but to make a phone call. It is challenging for parents to monitor what is available currently. Thanks for discussing this challenging topic.

Fantastic conversation thank you. As a grandmother of 13 ranging in ages from 2 years old to 24 I am aware of the interaction children and young adults have with the internet. My oldest son has a rule in his house where at 7pm his childrens phones and lap tops are placed in a certain place. On the other hand, my youngest daughter has struggles with her youngest ( 12 years old ) playing on line game called Fortnight so much so that it started to effect his schooling. Fortunately she has that under control.

Before time we do not have television up on the Island in the Torres Strait, living with my grandparents. We go gardening and bring back chopped wood to start a fire to cook our cooking for the evening. Well for me it was a hardship for my grandparents, but I’ve learned so much from them and I’m proud of myself and been telling her my story about how I grow up. I’ve learned consistency, accountability, and communication are KEY!! We used all the things to block and you are spot on”Where there’s a will there’s a way!” A lot of things in also learning is an issue of the heart so this mamas prayer life has definitely gotten stronger❤️ Than you again for sharing your life with us on here. This is all so true.So many parents have given there parenting over to electronics .It takes a lot of hard work and time to parent the way you should without handing over a electronic.Sadly the parents can’t get away from the electronics to parent the children.Great video .

My husband doesn't know how to use any device, smart phone, tablet or computer and doesn't want to learn. He asks me to look up things for him. So many commercials have sexual content. It seems as if so many children have no filters. Your children are well behaved and seem so well adjusted. You are doing a great job.

Parenting is never passive. We Were very intentional with our childrens access to the internet and rules regarding social media. Thier peers had freedom. As little ones they had books games etc. As children they still had imaginative play. Now in thierearly20s they are great young people who can hold meaningful conversation with any age group.are active in life and service to others and can put thier phones away with zero problems. None of this held them back or made them less socially aware or unable to navigate a tech led world

I remember years ago in the early days of the internet , our dog was not well and my daughter typed into the search engine sick puppy , I cannot tell you the horrors that were on that web page ! So it’s absolutely imperative to stand beside them in order to turn that stuff off immediately ! Xx

Love your family! So with you on this subject. And it's a challenge for sure and you all use common sense which is severely lacking today. Children need to learn about the internet as it's our future and they need to be introduced in stages to keep them kids and not turn them into mini adults too soon. I didn't have internet when I grew up and turned out just fine. And I only have one TV and no computer or internet. I do have a cell phone, but it's old and no longer supported, however it's all I need, as I never shop or bank on line (long story, won't bore everyone with the details), and I function just fine! Gives me lots to time to spend with the pets, hobbies and spending time outside tending to my plants, reading, cooking and baking for my bubble buddy and co-worker groups. And not stuck to a computer and enjoy being in the present. Thanks for sharing! 💖

I always love hearing your take on parenting issues. My boys are now 14,17,19 and 22. I am pretty close to the same age as you guys. And it’s nice to have another parenting perspective and get some ideas on handling things.

I remember loving the library. It was my key to the rest of the world. I poured over the encyclopedia - from A to Z. That was my life & I loved it.

I totally agree with this! We have 3 children. Our oldest is 18 and our youngest are 6 and 2. When our oldest was little we didn't have so many devices around. With our two younger children it seems like most of the children their age are device experts already. We do not let our little ones have devices. We as parents do not use devices on a regular basis. Our oldest has a cell phone in case he has an accident or break down. We do monitor everything they see even with our 18 year old. We try to teach them about internet safety. It is a lot harder with the younger ones it seems to maintain their innocence... I think I would go back to no internet. I know there are many benefits to the internet, but I feel the bad things out weigh the good. Just my opinion. I would love to see a parenting series on here... This is such a topic that gets brought up daily in our house. specifically surrounding getting an iphone. he's 15 and has a gabb phone so he can talk and text but no picture sharing and internet. He also has a bunch of blockers on his laptop. he just doesn't understand the dangers. and we are trying to protect him by all the "junk" as long as we can

If there wasn't the internet we wouldn't have been able to meet you and your family. The internet can be used for good and bad. Just like the news. They report on shootings and then you hear of more. Solo I keep thinking of the time you went on the missionary trip and sat next to the guy name Hans. Y'all find so much joy in life.

I loved this.. needed this.. I've been making the changes with the electronics in my house.. I have 3 toddlers and I have just started to realize .. this is not safe

This is brilliant. Alas our children are even older than the 2 of you and we didn't have this to worry about so much. It has been my grandchildren who have suffered because we didn't understand how much damage could be done. Our country would be a very different place if we had all known. Breaks my heart.

Thank you for this video! I love this format of video and hope you do more! I raised 2 son's with these rules. I put a timer on any screen use. Then they had computers for school. I did make the rule computers only in the living room where they had their homework station. I thought I was doing all the right things. My older son learned very quickly from other kids at school how to bypass the "parental screen" that was supposed to keep you from accessing sites other than the school's program.. I am bringing this up so other parents know this is possible. I should have spent more time working and talking about why to stay out of the general internet. It all turned out okay but we did have some serious challenges as a result that we were able to walk through.

I absolutely agree with everything you both said. I am overprotective over my daughter, my husband thinks it's too much sometimes, but I'm glad that I am this way due to all of these dangers and what it all can do to a child down the road. This is a great conversation. Our household is a no tv household cause mindless tv watching and commercials are a no. My kids do have iPads. My 7yr old loves her educational apps. All apps need to be approved. We don’t do Roblox or Minecraft or any web games. I think many people gloss over the idea of these games being infiltrated by randos etc.

Sarah, I am so glad that you mentioned the example that even children who have been sheltered their entire lives from certain things, as adults they can still fall prey to certain influences. I think the best thing to take away from this is that, this is how your family has structured your rules for how you guys feel is best for raising your children, according to your lifestyle. For us who have children who have been subjected to "the real world", because we have no other choice but to send them to public schools, have our own challenges. It's HARD to parent children who have a variety of uncontrollable influences, but can be manageable. My big thing with my kids has always been communication, communication, communication! Open dialog I have felt has been key with raising my children. An example I have is with my daughter when she was younger, and a few of her friends were allowed 2 piece bathing suits to go swimming. I personally didn't feel that a 2 piece was appropriate for a young girl. We had discussed why (she was 8) and because I answered her honestly why I felt the way I did, and answered her questions, it wasn't an issue with her. It opened up the issue of modesty and having respect for your body, without making her feel shamed or the peer pressure to fit in with the crowd. She's now 21 and still has that mindset that she doesn't need to wear more revealing, trendy clothes to fit in with her peers. Nor does she dress like a puritan lol. At the end of the day, we just all need to raise our children to be the best possible humans they can be. By giving them the tools to live good lives, is the best thing we can do for our kids.

I’m parent of three adult children they all are educated and working to continue their education. I agree I believe in reading books,board games with interaction of subjects they don’t know about and the beginning of a open discussion as children. So, I agree with you on this topic.

As a child, the internet was never an issue, as it wasn’t created yet. One thing you hit on was the password, and I still remember my password that my mom created for us as children. I am 53, and that lure of “Your parent was hurt, and sent me to pick you up, was a very real threat at that time, even by known people to that child and the parents.” I still to this day have never told anyone our password. My mom has now gone to live with our Lord, but this is such a great tip, that needs to be highlighted. Someone who knows your child could be a predator, and your child needs to be taught, that every single adult, including the ones they think they can trust have to be asked what the password is.

One word of wisdom that I received from the Holy Spirit that has renewed me in the spirit of my mind is to be led and not driven. Our world teaches us to be driven to make your goals happen and your dreams come true, but God's ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Those who are led by the Spirit of God, they are the children of God. ❤️

I would recommend this video to anyone raising children. You are setting your children on a path to be discerning and mentally healthy. Plus you are so right about how long it takes a child’s brain to reach maturity. By regulating internet and social media your allowing their brain to mature before they are overwhelmed. I see many children and young adults with high anxiety and depression, which I believe is acerbated by the internet and social media. The human brain needs more downtime than just thinking, we don’t need to be entertained 24/7. Chill out people!

If I had to choose, I would probably choose NO INTERNET. However, knowing that it is not going anywhere anytime soon, I think the whole world needs to develop a mindset similar to yours! Our kids need us!

The thing that was hard for me to teach my kids was that yes the internet opens up the whole world to you but remember that when you are on the internet you can let in the whole word into your life and house and not all of it is nice and safe

I am like Sarah. I would like to go back to no internet. I know I do enjoy watching your videos on the internet because your values are what I grew up with. But I also limit my time and what I watch. You all are a blessing to your viewers.

We have the same exact philosophy as you. We'll said. I've definitely considered getting rid of Internet and going old school (we didn't have a TV for 9 years) but I feel like it would be better to teach them how to use it wisely and to prepare them for being on their own and having to navigate it themselves.

Oh, Sarah! I would absolutely say no internet. It makes me sound like an old lady, and I'm only in my 40's, but I grew up without internet and have done just fine. I have 4 adult kids and we were very intentional about limiting their internet use and we actively had family time, encouraged reading and had actual conversations! None of them had TV's in their bedrooms and when they finally got phones at around age 15, they had to bring them to our bedroom and were monitored by day. Three of them have a very balanced relationship with the internet and have handled it very well. One will be 21 this month and she is NOT balanced. We knew she had the tendency to lean hard to one side or the other, so we spent a lot of time talking to her and trying to teach her self control and the importance of balance, which is something we've always done with this particular child. She actually got a phone even later than her siblings because, as parents, we know our kids! After getting the phone, we knew we needed to set up ALL of the protections possible in order to help her. Now, at almost 21, she is addicted or pretty close to, addicted to social media. It makes me sad because she can barely hold intelligent conversations and we have to tell her to put her phone away when we are all together and talking. But, she's an adult so the best we can do is pray and continue to talk to her as we feel led. Parenting/counseling/consulting adult children can be tricky to say the least!

The internet brings a lot of connection to our world. Keeping in touch with friends and family who are traveling or move away. Also bringing exposure to other cultures and peoples. I think it's also improved knowledge sharing for countries that might not be as privileged. Important medical info is easily shared, sanitation, etc. Even take a look at how missionaries can operate differently now. There are internet hotspots that include a bible download in the local language, etc. All kinds of stuff that helps expand the reach. Bible translation with internet communication is improved too. I'm also a bit biased probably as I met my husband online in a gaming community. I may have not told my parents before we first met in person cause I knew my mom would flip. I took precautions to have friends around for safety and all. Everything turned out great! Parenting my kids in the internet age will definitely be a struggle. I had a lot of trust from my parents in earlier internet days, had my own computer with internet in my room as a teen. Was pre tablet and smartphone days. I don't know that I'll allow the same for my own kids, though I didn't really get into much trouble. But I knew the trouble was there. And it's certainly become even more dangerous over time.

I know there are a lot of parents who protect their children from the bad stuff on the internet as well, but there are a lot of parents who do not think about the dangers of the internet. Keep up the good work. Your children depend on it.

There are so many positive things that the internet makes available to us, but if I had a choice I would choose to go back to pre-internet days and even pre-cell phone days. Even though the cell phones and internet connect us to so many people and things, it seemed like people were more connected and more social before cell phones and the internet. I so often see people using their phones to avoid having to communicate with people. It's as if to say I'm on the phone I cant be bothered. Thank you for the godly wisdom you impart through your channel. I always look forward to your videos.

Yes each child is different and must be parent differently. My daughter was very matured at an earlier age and involved in lots of extracurricular activities from middle school on. She's 20 now. During middle school until she started driving she had a non smart phone. BTW, the computers the schools gives them limits the sites they visit.

My 3 son’s are all adults, I had one computer in my kitchen .. I was strict too.. I am very happy I raised my boys in a home where rules were made to help them..

Some great advice. Even if you think you are being safe with your kids....they learn quick and can get in over their heads in danger quickly. It can be scary. From child sex trafficking dangers to bullying.

A great topic!! For me who grew up with radio and television and our children had the world of video games!! Now the Grandchildren have the internet and all these electric devices is mind boggling!! It is good and not so good!! I am still glad we have it!!
