Hi Maddie. I just wanted to let you know that you have changed my life. About 4 months ago my cholesterol levels were dangerously high. I began making food based on your vlogs and now your cookbook. My levels are now amazingly good and my doctor is thrilled. I gradually introduced plant based meals and never felt like I was missing something. I am not a vegan, but I am close. Thank you so much for sharing your life. I hope you know that you are making a difference.

Hi Maddie! I think pizza would also be a great idea for when you have people over and don't know what to cook. You can make homemade pizza dough and have different types of toppings so people can choose, vegan cheese, vegetables, different sauces like tomato sauce or pesto, vegan meat options... We do that here sometimes and it's always great fun.

I am so happy to hear that you, as a vegan, are willing to acknowledge that not everyone actually IS! I have friends who are carnivores as well as those who are vegetarian or vegan. I always make the effort , like you, to try to accommodate everyone as opposed to expecting everyone to embrace veganism/vegetarianism. The effort should be a two-way street!
@MadeleineOlivia
@MadeleineOlivia 6 месяцев назад
Of course! If friends are coming over I want them to have the best time!
@natashadavies9569

That's interesting. I tend towards almost the opposite perspective. I'm pescetarian and have friends that are omnivores, vegetarian and vegan (my cats are carnivores and naturally I feed them meat.). If I eat at a omnivore's house I expect to be able to eat most of the spread but am happy to accept there might be meat there. So long as the divisions are clear and I have options and balance I'm being catered for. If I eat at a vegan's house, especially if they are vegan for ethical friends (might be otherwise if it was just a preference) I wouldn't expect to be cooked fish. Unlike my cats it's not unhealthy for me to eat plant based and I don't feel I'm being deprived by my food being vegan for the day. Edited to add that I do realise that wasn't Maddie's dilemma being discussed in the video

My reply was based on the inference that you were specifically talking about dietary restrictions. Apologies if I misunderstood and that wasn't what you meant by your comment

Hey, Madeleine! I was thinking about your garden shed. I am sure that you have tons of choices of Cornish cottage styled ones which would look stunning in both the front area of your house as well as the back garden. I was a Secondary School teacher and I had my students who were taking a woodworking class design and build me a charming one. Their teacher was thrilled with the idea as well as the students who apparently had fun doing the project. Sometimes it is wise to take your time to consider what you want/need in your newly and, may I say, gorgeously revamped garden. It will be interesting to see what you decide to do!
@catrobinson6282
@catrobinson6282 6 месяцев назад
Agree, unfortunately you do see instances of people who say "if I cook vegan for them then why don't they cook meat for me" which is simply answered by everyone can eat vegan and it can be offensive to cook meat/other animal products when you are an ethical vegan. It's only one meal! lol I find I do go above and beyond though when cooking for a dinner party, to make sure that everything is great and everyone loves everything, which to be fair is pretty easy these days!

So nice to see signs of spring in your garden. Thank you for the tips on how to prune wisteria. I never know how to handle our beast, which has a clematis or two tangled up in it as well. We are currently buried in snow here in Nova Scotia, with many more weeks to go before the green shoots appear.

Our wisteria is rudely healthy thanks to my husband pruning it in Jan and early Feb, he bases it on the twigs, I'm off for a break with my Family for a bit, but when I get back I will send details, we planted it when we bought the house in 91, and it bloomed twice every summer and people walking by have asked if its real, like I'd put dollar store crap on my porch! Know the timing is off, but will be helpful for the future!

I struggle with garden sheds, too. I also have found that I experience decision paralysis with my ADHD, so picking a design and committing to it is really fatiguing. However, I was considering making one that looks like a really small victorian greenhouse, and instead of windows that show the mess, putting in like... mirrors, or something so they just reflect the garden around it. I feel like it would be more aesthetic than a shed, but I'm also kind of extra. 😂 Anyway, don't be afraid to do something a little out of the box if it makes you happy.

Good luck

All hair dye or glossings end up going warm, not just dark ones. 😉The cool tones usually don't stay that long in the hair because they are not as pigmented and heat etc. brings the warmth out after quite some time no matter if it's dark dye or again glossings for blondes.

Last year I did a creative writing class and this year I'm doing basket weaving. It's 10 weeks long, one evening a week and I really look forward to it. I'm in my late 20s and work a 9-5 office job but I love crafts and it's been great to learn a new skill and spend time doing something i enjoy. I know that some people see it as a waste of time but I think it's so important to spend time on your interests outside of work/making money

Basket weaving sounds so nice! I did two courses of drawing last year and loved them. It's so weird to me that people actually think that hobbies are a waste of time. I mean, you're living your life now and there's no point of waiting for a future where you have no other obligations because it will probably never come. The only time we definitely have is now.

Madeleine! I adore wisteria but I am aware that you need a strong support, preferably a metal trellis-like arrangement to facilitate it growing properly. Or a heavy pergola that will support it. I know it grown quite quickly as well. What are you using on the side of your cottage? Advice would be much appreciated!

Whoa! How quickly you reply! I always enjoy your channel especially your decorative journey in your Cornish cottage. I am a Canadian, and would kill (metaphorically speaking) to live in a cottage like yours in that part of your country. So jealous in the nicest sort of way! I shall be exploring the possibility of adding swaths of wisteria to the side of my wee small bungalow in Southern Ontario!

Good Mexican (really Tex-Mex) foods for a crowd is burrito bowls. I don’t think you have Chipotle in the UK, but basically the idea is make some cilantro (coriander) and lime rice (plain rice with those stirred in), various protein options like spiced black beans or a copycat Chipotle vegan sofrito tofu, then have plenty of veggies and other toppings to put on top (fajita veggies, diced tomato, shredded lettuce, etc.) then different dips/sauces like guacamole, pico de gallo, vegan crema, or different salsas (red, green, spicy, etc.) People can put their own toppings on and customize it to what they like.

I am half way through the book you recommended Four Thousand Weeks and have to say I am bit annoyed he calls distractions like watching you a way of avoiding real life and what we need to do. I disagree as you and others I watch are my choice and have given me inspiration and a very welcome distraction and how dull life would be without you all. Real life is fine but what I watch is about real life all over the world. I watch people in New York, Tuscany, wilds of Sweden and Stockholm, Italian Alps and of course dear old England. He is quite depressing and yes we are all going to die but lets not dwell on that hey?
