Our Caravan Security 

Thanks again guys. Persuaded the other half that the door lock was the correct purchase!! We have a twin axle with AL-KO Chassis Locks. You are right, a complete pain, until we saw 'Lock-n-Level' at the NEC Caravan Show. This gives you the ability to not only level a twin axle easily, but also to lift ONE wheel clear of the ground to rotate and allow fitment of the second of the AL-KO locks when in storage. We still line one up using the movers or by exact positioning, but the second becomes a doddle. Ron

Great vlog and great advice guys. We use the milenco door lock which allows us to lock the van from inside too for the extra security. Thank you for sharing.

I have never understood why people think the ALKO lock is a pain to fit. On a single axle van its a doddle (just inch it on the motor movers). I have a twin axle and the second lock is a real PITA but once you work out a system its reasonably manageable.

Hello Keith and Michele, the receiving part with the yellow dust cap at the back of the wheel, how do you attach that to the caravan ?, or are caravan already fitted with this part, I’ve watched lots of videos but nobody mentioned this part, many thanks 👍.

Thanks guys. Really enjoying your videos. Totally agree with what you're saying with these locks, they are only a deterrent. We had our van stolen off our drive during the early hours. It had an internal alarm, wheel lock and hitch lock. We never heard a thing and the only thing we found was the hitch cover and the wheel lock which wasn't a great one and had been cut with what must of been bolt cutters. I guess they never opened the door to pinch it as we would have heard the alarm. I joined a Facebook group on stolen caravans to post our theft and there are about 6-10 posts a week of caravan and motorhome theft from around the country. Alarmingly, a lot from so called secure sites. Our insurance paid out and we now have another van. It's now behind gates, alarmed, chained, GPS tracker with Alko wheel and hitch locks along with corner steady locks. Basically, all we can do!. At the end of the day, if they want your caravan, they will get it!. I did a lot of research on caravan theft and they come prepared with everything to steal your van. Cutters, grinders and welders cutting equipment. Even one instance of a scaffold pole fitted with their own tow bar! They can even arrive with wheels if you go to the effort of removing them. I would say put as much security on as you possibly can, even if it takes half an hour to fit it all. You can only make it a bit harder for a determined thief. Keep up the great work guys.

So, bought new caravan in September after a 30 year break. Got one of those Wraith things. It’s evil. It is. It’s pure devil. It growled, squealed, could I heck get it off. I was ever so gentle with the key. After about three days, it came off! Yippee!!! Ok, so tried it again, it worked, and again I tried, and it worked. But then at the third attempt, the little rascal looked at me, gave out a horrid, scary, Hitchcock screech and refused to unlock. So I went in the house and poured myself a tall glass of Sanatagen wine and took four Philosan capsules, sat in my favourite comfy chair, lit a pipe of Erinmore Mixture, casually looking around me to see which of the rooms walls I could bang my head against. So I Googled it, and I wasn’t the only one to have the Wraith Harrasments, some had exchanged the key barrels from Milenco! So I did manage to get it unlocked, packed it all up in its little box, took it back and swapped it for a new one. The replacement is still in its little box, sat in the garage! Interesting. I use a coupling lock called a “Trailer Cuff” which can also be used whilst towing thus a deterrent for thieves to unhitch & steal the van if you stop anywhere en route to the caravan park. Just a thought!

Hi both very good vlog ..I use the little piece of what ever it is in the alco kit for kneeling on when fitting the very fiddly alco lock .. we will be getting one of those door locks good piece of kit ...derek

Hi Keith and Michele v always lovely to see you guys yes I agree with what u said the locks won't stop your van from been stolen but it will slow them down and make it harder for them the more locks the better I'm just glad I'm in a storage where the owner live on site and only he gets the van out he as the storage for 23 years and hasn't had a break in yet it abit less worry than a site where u go in yourself I think fab video as always .kev

Hi all You demonstrated the " Fiamma door lock" very well but are you aware That Fiamma sells a spacer kit which screws to the back of the swivel part and it closes the gap you mentioned. The spacer kit comes with a steel plate plus 3 more spacers to add thus closing the gap . You just add spacers needed for a snug fit. I hope this tip is of use to you and others who are faced with the same problem.......stay safe and well both.

We bought a Milenco Wraith Lock for our 2010 Bailey Pegasus only to find the wheel sockets are too small to house the barrel. Our local showroom were not aware of this but seems an issue with c. 2010-2012 Bailey wheels. Firstly, just a note to advise you all of this and secondly if anybody knows if there is an barrel attachment to make this device compatible with this style of wheel. Thanks.

Hi guys, enjoyed the video, great topic. However I wondered about your experience with your “mobile” wheel lock. I have a Purple Line Nemisis, which as you say is very similar to your unit. Do you leave the receiver bolt when towing, or swap it out with the original wheel fixing bolt. Leaving it in makes for a very convenient lock and unlock. But I’m worried that the additional mass of the receiver will make the hub and wheel assembly imbalanced. I’ve had the unit for a year but only used it on our seasonal pitch, we will however be towing this year. So far I’ve removed it, what’s your experience? PS. I’ve asked the question to purple line, and am awaiting their response. Cheers John & Al.

Are the wheel locks universal or do you need get set ones for your caravan Same for the towing arm lock

Takes me less than 30 seconds to fit the AL KO wheel lock. In storage or on a pitch. Not sure why its such a pain to you.

It’s a faff, but someone’s got to do it, and it’s generally me! So much choice and all relatively easily removed... 🥺 Another informative video guys, thank you, I have yet to experience the joys of the Alko, but it is coming to a ‘van near us soon... 👀 😳 🧐

The Wraith is a horrid thing what a pain in the ass to get on, mine is going back asap it will just not go on. Avoid!

Agree with you Keith no matter what you put on a caravan it can still be stolen. As for the alco wheel lock what a pain to fit. I was on a site when someone lost the key for one the site manager removed it for the guy with a cordless angel grinder in under 3 minutes.

I wouldn’t be putting details of all my security devices on RU-vid..your insurance wouldn’t be too happy either I don’t imagine. You need to remember there are some nasty people out there.
