Our cats meet Pichi! 

FAQ about her eye! What you're looking at is her third eyelid, which is completely closed over top of her eye. The eye is pushed back into the socket likely due to some sort of fight with another cat, but the eye is still in there. It likely doesn't have any vision, but if you look closely you can still see the iris through the third eyelid and it moves along with her healthy eye. When we first found her her eye injury was still recent and in the process of healing, but the state it's in right now is essentially its "healed" state and this is how it will remain. The vet doesn't recommend surgery to remove the eye at this point because it's medically unnecessary. The only side effect he mentioned of keeping her eye like this would be that it might produce more eye gunk than normal. I do notice eye gunk along the outside every now and then but Pichi is very fastidious about keeping herself clean and she cleans it off herself! Removing the eye right now would add unnecessary surgical risk, cause her additional stress, and she may even need an implant to maintain the shape of socket if the eye was removed. If anything changes or the vet recommends it be removed we would follow his advice immediately. At least for me personally, I got used to it very quickly and don't even really notice it most of the time now! If you find it weird or disturbing to look at at first, I ask that you be open-minded and give her a chance--I think you'll get used to it as well before you know it!

I didn’t realize how small she was. She is about the size of Haku’s tail. You’ve done a great job of habituating her to your home and see other cats. It takes a lot of patience. She’s such a pretty cat.

Pichi is not freaked out because Rachel already wears everyday the scent of the other cats. So Pichi knows them a little from that scent.

Haku is the most well behaved angel I've ever seen in my life. In everything he does, he is the perfect pet.

When I die, I want to come back as a cat and be taken in by Rachel and Jun.

Seeing Pichi and Haku curiously sniff at one another absolutely DESTROYED my heartstrings, so thank you dearly for that experience

Haku's wholesome reaction to Pichi reminds me of when I took in my second cat. He was labeled unadoptable with his adversion to humans and very aggressive at first but I wanted to give him a chance, especially with how my first cat was in need of a sibling with his separation anxiety. When I brought him in he was stressed beyond belief and didn't seem like he was going to fare too well, he didn't even trust the food I gave him despite being clearly hungry enough to drool when he saw the food set down in front of him. I wanted to do everything by the book and gradually introduce the two cats, but my first cat had other plans and managed to open the door I had the kitten in. I couldn't find either of them and I was so panicked until I heard eating noises coming from the kitchen. My cat had taken it upon himself to lead the kitten into the kitchen and was lying down next to him while the kitten was scarfing down a small pile of kibbles that he had apparently been storing up just for his new baby brother. Ever since then, they are side by side when they eat and the older cat will make sure his little brother finishes his bowl before he lets him wander off. Couldn't have asked for a better outcome, and it really shows how animals can sense when someone needs a little extra help.

One forgets how Huge Haku is until he's around the other cats.

Haku is such a gentle giant, definitely something she needs.

For people who want to get a new cat/pet but already have cats/pets: The way they did it is very smart! I work in animal rescue and I can tell you that I LOVE this channel. Cats and dogs are very scent-oriented and are creatures of familiarity. Quickly introducing them to a new environment is not going to go over well, especially if you have other pets. You need to introduce them to a small portion of your home at a time, and make sure you take as many of their items with you as possible so your home can be filled with familiar and comforting smells. This is also a way to get your other pets to know you have a new friend -- let them smell their belongings. They will know these items belong to a different animal and will become curious about them. Keeping a new pet in a closed-off room of your home and letting your current pets meet them on their own time is the easiest and most stress-free way to bring that new pet into the home. The best way for new 'animal roommates' to meet is by scent, under the door. Cats will be able to see under the door but dogs will not, so this is a critical step involving familiarization of smells. With some cats it's almost inevitable that they'll start out hissing or hitting at each other under the door, but soon you'll see the aggressive swatting turn into playful batting. Buy them a new toy and let them share it. For dogs it's not as easy to share toys, especially if you're moving a cat or small dog in with a large dog. But you can let them share other items of comfort such as blankets. Let your current pet play with something during the day and your new pet during the night, and they can share under the door. After *at least* a week of introductions you can finally open the door (my new pets usually spend this week waiting on vet results anyway since I take a lot of cats in from outside and dogs from troubling situations, so they'll naturally be 'quarantined' for at least a week to make sure there are no diseases). The first time you do it, you want your new pet to be in their carrier or on their leash, and if you're introducing a dog to a dog find a friend to help leash your current dog if you suspect any problems. Hopefully at this point, the meeting will go off without a hitch! If you do have any complications, don't give up! You might invest in pheromones to calm down the offending pets. And of course, your biggest investment is time. When I first introduced my severely neglected working-class German Shepherd to our existing Belgian Sheepdog, I honestly initially didn't think we were going to be able to take him in. He was just being really territorial of his people and kept 'mouthing' my Belgian; he wasn't hurting her so much as giving her a warning (and it doesn't help that his former owners never trained out his puppy teething). But when his owners went over to my Belgian and loved on her and showed him it was okay, he was more accepting. We brought out one of her toys for him to sniff and he ended up taking it and playing with it! Animals are really smart and pick up on cues from humans more than anything else, you just have to work with them to make sure they're comfortable! If any prospective pet owners have any questions, let me know below! Otherwise, I recommend adopting not shopping, you should definitely spay and neuter, and you should go ahead and subscribe to Rachel and Jun, they're serious animal lovers :)

Two things I am delighted in knowing; Pichi has excellent cat etiquette! Look at her just diverting her focus when Nagi seems spooked so that he gets to approach her! Her slow blinking to say that she's friendly! All excellent! ... Pichi sounds like a trumphet masquerading as a cat :')

Haku is SUCH a gentleman! The way he meows to announce his presence, gets down on her level so he's not as intimidating, and sloooowly approaches - always looking for cues that it's OK to come closer and have a sniff - I feel like there are humans that should take a lesson in manners from him! (well... Except the sniffing the newcomers bum part ^^;;;)

I am amazed at how much patience and understanding of cat behavior you use. In my homeless adoptions I caught two feral kittens removing them from 20+ kittens of five mothers. These two kittens accepted comfy indoor life, but it was almost three years before they would climb in my lap. After that, they quickly decided that being a lap kitty was great.

We so often expect animals to trust right away, not knowing what they have been through. Trust takes time. It's lovely to watch your video and see the recognition of this.

Pichi’s meows when meeting Haku in her room were insanely adorable!! I’m glad she seems so comfortable meeting other cats. I had taken in a homeless kitty before and sadly she never really could get used to the other cats in our home and hid away. She loves people though. After a year with no progress with other cats we decided to give her away to a family friend with no other animals. We get update texts all the time and I’m glad she’s doing amazing over there with her new owner.

Haku, Poki and Nagi are like brothers who lived together for a long time, when suddenly they received an adorable little sister. They all look so cute together❤️❤️❤️

I AM CRYING!! Rachel and Jun your cats are SO SPECIAL. Haku is SUCH a sweet boy. He immediately gently tries to reassure her, his body language is so clearly purposely telling her "I'm here to help you, it's okay" (the way he turns his back to her when she approaches shows trust from him) and you can see she immediately hides behind him. It's amazing. You are such amazing cat parents.

It's a bit late for a response so doubt you will read this but let me say this, I LOVE how you treat cats. How cat crazy you are (the we bought land video was so cute, Rachel talking and cats in frame. I approve.), how you treat them, how you let them be cats on their own terms. Amazing. Proud cat owner of two here, one of which is a sort of scaredy cat still, both my cats are 10 yo. But this calico girl is sort of shy, comes for cuddles only when she wants to, doesn't want to be picked up. We got her from a shelter at 13 wks, then she had already been returned once for being "too shy". Was found outside at 2 days old with mom and siblings. She will always be shy, not a lap kitty. But love her to bits, she has a heck of a personality. Luckily, my other tabby tomcat is quite the cuddler, he's big (7 kg and not overweight) and always up for a cuddle and these days, more of a lap kitty than ever. So erm, well. When talking about my cats I can go on forever. Which is why every video by you guys gets a thumbs up before I have even watched it. ;)
