Next time you start to lose grip with an open diff vehicle like you did in this video, try staying on the gas and then use your left foot and push on the brake. This will put resistance on the wheel in the air spinning and apply some torque to the wheel that has the grip. This is an old school version of traction control and it does work on occasions.

@joshm9003
@joshm9003 3 года назад
Tires wouldn't have mattered as much as a locking diff. Once a wheel lifts on open differentials all the power goes to the wheel with least resistance such as the wheel in the air. The knobby tire would still be spinning in the air getting no traction to it since these trucks lack suspension articulation making the back end work harder than it should.

That's not always true. A proper low range transfer case, great suspension articulation, and clearance help a lot. The f150 is a boat anchor on the trail because of its size and weight. The Tacoma is the opposite way more nimble and has a greater low range gear set. Not hating just stating the facts on this. That's why an f150 would be better at towing than the Tacoma would.

Like how they didn't put such a huge tire on the Tacoma to where it would overwhelm the small engine. At the same time all that money spent on fancy bumpers, that rear flapper camper, wrap, etc could have been put to front and rear diff lockers. Made that truck a real billy goat with the lockers. Also I wish Toyota still made small trucks like this 1995-2004 Tacoma. Yes this reg cab/medium box/4wd truck is a beast off road, but I owned a 2wd reg cab/medium box and loved that truck. It sat so low that my short 5'6" self could reach into the bed from the side. Something my 1993, 1988, and 1985 2wd pickups were also awesome at, that bed was so low it was easy to load/unload.

That old 2004 - 2008 F150 XL can have cruise control. Buy the switches and install them. Take it to a dealer and for an hour of 'power train diagnostic' they can turn the cruise from 'off' to 'on' in the computer. All the needed parts are there expect the switches in the steering wheel. The dashboard already has the cruise control light in it and it will light up while in use. I did this in my old 2004 F150 XL. It was the best $150 modification I've ever done to a vehicle.

That F150 is actually the truck I'd prefer. The drivetrain is bulletproof, can tow more, carry more gear and is cheaper. A lot of that terrain could have been conquered with a minimal amount of momentum. You can't go off-road with awful tires, open diffs and an empty truck bed, creeping along and expect to go far. Throw some decent tires on it, 400lbs in the bed, and a limited slip diff or rear locker and I think it would go everywhere the Toyota did. They are both ifs. Put half that 15k in the f150 and it would spank the yota

My truck would've made a cakewalk out of that trail.

Noticed a lot of times a little more speed and no drama there is a time to use momentum and not softly softly, pretty sure none of those obstacles would have stopped me, and a few in my Nismo Duke and using a slightly route.

As long as they’re spending that kind of money on that truck I think an air compressor and at least a rear locker is a no brainer. They should have held out for a 1st gen TRD off road with the OEM locker. Other than that it looks cool and is capable but without that locker it leans a little bit towards the mall crawler side. A locker would bring it up another level.

The Tacoma desperately needs a rear locker, for it to be considered a “off-roader”

Ford needs tires and I'd love to see baby yota vs stock s10 zr2 as a cheap truck challenge

Next time have better tires like the km3 on the Ford. My 04 F150 fx4 with km3 is a beast.

You guys should remove the front sway bar on the Tacoma if you haven't already. I have almost the exact same truck and it made a big difference having the extra articulation up front. The on-road handling isn't noticeably different either.

Wow! What a transformation on Baby Yota! That is a great looking machine. Well done!

Drop a locker in that Taco and presto. Given the terrible tires, the old Ford did pretty well.

I’ve got a 4door 02 Tacoma but it’s only rwd, kinda sucks but with the nice goodrich tires it’s a great truck at 250k miles and no issues

At least put some tires on the ford. Can't expect it to go anywhere on those things.

Next yall should get a crew max 2007-2011 tundra or a 2007-2009 4runner, those trucks blow up in views and no body gives the Tundra or 4runners love and there really great trucks

Now keep in mind, if Tommy was not wearing a seatbelt, I would post a comment about him not wearing a seatbelt not being safe.

15 thousand for a 4 cylinder auto Tacoma that barely beats out a worn out f-150 on ATs. Couldn't be me lol
