This was great. I was one of the parents asking for high school so 🥰. I have a rising 7th and 5th. We are new to MP. We have incorporated Latin, Classical studies and Literature and it’s been a perfect addition to our homeschool.
Thank you for these talks. I’m binge watching all of Memoria Press content especially the podcast episodes. We are new to MP and have JUST switched from Bookshark to MP mid year. Yikes! 7th grade and 1st grade. We just finished week one and I’m in LOVE! The forum was super helpful. I saw some recommendations there for those new to MP and it helped me figure out which subjects I needed to catch up on. I’m super excited for week two. I don’t understand why there isn’t more on the internet about this amazing curriculum. I’m totally obsessed!
Nicky! It's great to see you on the channel, and we're glad you found us. Let us know if there's any specific videos or ideas you'd like us to touch on! We are always looking for better ways to help our new families. Thanks!
As someone who did not have the opportunity to learn Greek, I think everyone should study it. The New Testament was originally written in Greek. Much of the ancient literature that builds the foundation of Western civilization was written in Greek. Many root words in English are actually Greek. Much of our philosophy is Greek. Many of the writers of our great literature studied Greek.
Thank you, Paul! You make me feel better about starting Latin and composition for my son, in 7th grade. I guess what’s making me panic is that we have always homeschooled year round due to having another child with special needs. And that just makes me feel like I’m so behind, and I’m already worrying about high school. We only have a couple of your subjects and finally, my twelve year old son just said “mommy, the only books that work for me are Memoria Press” and he’s so right! I always thought he needed pictures and lots of colors in books, and he doesn’t. Thank you! I will be starting Latin 1st Form now as we end 6th grade, and composition 1 in January (7th grade) with the hopes to catch up🤞
This was very helpful, thank you! We are using your Latin Christiana and Greek Mythology right now and I look forward to incorporating more of your curriculum as my girls move forward. It would be nice if you had some more secular options. Also, are there any scholarships for the online classes that are offered? They are just so expensive for the average working family. I enjoyed your content and appreciate the great information, while getting a few good laughs along the way. 😄 Thanks!
Hi, Josey. Glad it was helpful! Regarding financial aid, Memoria Press Online Academy does not offer scholarships. However, we are happy to interface with any granting organizing you find to help you cover the cost of your child's education. Several MPOA families receive scholarships from outside organizations. Thanks! -Paul & MPOA
I'm very supportive of homeschooling and homeschool families and did six years of it myself. But I recall in the other Memoria podcast with Shane (I believe it was in the episode, "Why is Memoria Press Traditional?") that they advocated for the formal classroom setting where students are facing forward and a teacher is up front. So, how does that vision/ideal of education overlap and conflict with homeschooling? Thanks! - Andy
When given the choice, I will always opt for dual credit (which gives actual college credit) over AP which does not. And we did not find that a lack of AP classes had any impact at all on college acceptance. In fact, out of 8 unis, none cared about this (and in our state, there are admission rules that make AP 100% moot except in the least competitive schools).
