@Rachael Hoffman-Dachelet - You _are_ loved! HaShem loves you!! HE created you! 😊 People can disappoint and disappear from our lives, but HaShem is _always_ present, and _always_ loves us. Though there are multiple passages describing the love HS has for you, one that may help is for you to read Isaiah 54:10 which says (in part): “…but my steadfast love shall not depart from you,…”. 😃 💕

I remember baking chocolate rolls (like cinnamon rolls but with cocoa instead) with my precious grandma. My mother always welcomed me to be in the kitchen helping and learning. She asked me once how I knew how to do something I was doing in the kitchen and I told her it is my “memory cookbook”. I can clearly envision standing on a chair at the end of the counter and watching her do things. I recall those memories whenever I cook. It is a priceless gift that they gave me. I hope I have passed it on to my son (he loves to cook as well).

I love Rosh Hashana prep. I'm not Jewish, but I love your videos so much. I grew up with a single dad who did not know how to cook (we mostly ate microwaved stuff and ordered pizza and Chinese food) and am learning to cook for the first time now at 30, so I can honestly say that instead of family cooking memories, some of my first memories in the kitchen are with you and your videos! I love your calming voice and how carefully you explain each step, even the things that might seem obvious to someone who is a good cook, because for those who are just learning, having those "obvious" things explained is invaluable. I hope your new year is as sweet as you are! Oh-- and the dessert I would most want to try is the pomegranate sauce one!

When I was a child I remember her cooking and her telling me she knew the chicken was done when it started talking to her. I didn't understand at the time what she meant. I was a child and couldn't understand how a piece of meat to talk. It was later she explained that when the fried chicken is done it makes a sh noise. Just like the noise you said your pressure cooker makes

I remember helping my Grandmother (Bubbe) make a rhubarb pie - I cut the ruhbarb from along the fenceline next to our field and we cleaned it and cut it and she made the dough while I helped ready the rhubarb. It was a nice memory. I also remember going to the orchard and picking apples and pears but they were so small and buggy and it was hard to get enough to make a pie because the orchard was very very old and the trees were tired.

My maternal grandparents owned, and lived in, a vineyard which produced fresh and dried table grapes (not wine grapes). Every year, during harvest season, they would employ "pickers" to harvest their grapes by hand. My grandmother would provide morning tea (usually freshly cooked scones, tea and coffee), lunch (mixed sandwiches on home made bread), afternoon tea (freshly baked cake, tea and coffee again). For those who lived in the property during this period, she also provides the evening meal. Some of my earliest memories are of helping my grandma in the kitchen, learning from her, delivering the baskets of food with her, hand washing all the dishes...

In my experience with the silicone covers, they have to be stretched, really stretched, nubby side up, with a slight downward pull, in order to cling to the edges of the container. I stretch the cover from the corners - one at a time, then as each side retracts the silicone clings. It took some trial and error to discover the proper stretch force needed, but now I’m used to it and it’s just a second nature process that requires no thought. I hope this works for you! PS: For microwave heating, simply lay over the bowl without stretching, but if sealing AND microwave heating, leave a small steam escape opening unsealed along an edge.

I love Rosh Hashanah prep! Mom always makes her mashed potatoes with the mixer... I'm too impatient and always want them NOW! I learned a lot from both my Mom and Grandma and we do the same thing with meatballs and even Chinese potsticker fillings--so much easier to form when chilled and to keep cool damp hands! I love that you involve your family and us in the prep. When my mom finished chemo this year she said she was ready for a home-cooked meal! There is no flavor quite like being with your loved ones. L'Shana Tova!

I love Rosh Hashanah prep!❤. Everything looks beautiful and delicious! Yes I think learning from our mothers, aunts and grandmothers how to cook and care for our families is so important! I had a Swedish grandma who was a wonderful cook. She was my maternal grandmother and my mother also was a great cook. From them, I learned how to cook Swedish meatballs, lentil soup, pickled beets, abelskivers, cookies, Swedish pancakes and a special prune coffee cake. Take care!! Lea your ice cream looks delicious!

I am getting ready to make small cookbooks with all the recipes to send to my cousins so I am not the only one who has the recipes. I love your channel and I love watching it, especially after a rough shift at work. I always feel better after watching you make wonderful dishes and your voice is very relaxing to listen to. Sadly, I only have a few memories of cooking with my grandma. It wasn't for a lack of presence - the extended fam was pretty close-knit... it was more due to "too many cooks in the kitchen" and all us kids being deemed "too unruly". However, the dynamic changed in my late 20's, early 30's. I am ever so thankful for the few memories I have. She helped me create - and can - my own version of V8 juice from the garden produce (it made a great soup/stew base). She told me, no matter what you do - don't cook, prep, preserve, etc, when in a bad mood - only when in a good mood, and to stop & FEEL love before starting. She never explained it, just stated it so matter-of-factly that I didn't even stop to ask WHY. It makes sense, though. My best memory, however, we video-taped. As in, on a VHS tape - digital cameras were starting to take over, but this was what we had. 📼 It was nearing Christmas, which, in the family was a HUGE DEAL (was my grandma's favorite holiday, and she showed her love for us in the form of food). Every year, for Christmas Brunch, she'd make dozens and dozens of gorgeous, melt-in-your-mouth, HANDSHAPED buttermilk biscuits (the southerm US fluffy bread type). Most ended up with a chunk of cheese wrapped up in the center. This is the one thing on the table that would NEVER have leftovers (we ate on them all day, and they'd be gone about 2 hours before the "Feast"). Well, this particular year, I flew back to visit, and asked Grandma to teach me how to make both her biscuits AND her "slick pastry" for Chicken & Pastry. She set me up beside her and we went through everything... from how to "feel" the proportions, etc. I recorded both events. I left the tape there by accident, but knew I could retrieve it next visit. (This ended up being a Divine Intervention) The following November, sadly, Grandma lost her fight with COPD. I flew in early that year because of her sudden illness & the funeral. I don't remember how it came up in the conversations later, or how it all was decided, but suddenly my father and brother were in a rush making duplicate copies of this tape, "one for every household, one for each grandkid." My two female cousins and I sat and watched the video (me to remind myself of the steps involved, and them to learn as fast as possible, although my youngest female cousin... well, as I suspected, being a "functional alcoholic", didn't end up helping much due to her hangover - we set her to cutting cubes of cheese). All three of us arrived early the day of Christmas and immediately got to work, cranking out biscuit after biscuit. As a joke (with undercurrants of a more serious competitive edge from middle cousin), we separated out the biscuits into two - those I had made and those she had made. (they tasted identical, tbh... both of us were unskilled and so they looked a little more misshapened than Grandma's, but they were still good! The in-depth questions I had asked, and making my grandma not just show each stage to the camera, but describe the texture of the dough, how it felt, etc, helped us more than I had realized. I was so glad I had deliberately made others take a few extra steps to get to the basket with the ones I had made in it - knowing my family is inheritantly lazy - because her basket emptied first, and she declared herself the "winner". It brightened her day, which was a very very rough day for all of us. The surprise on family member's faces as they arrived and were greated with the smells and tastes they remembered... THAT was the best gift ever. Sadly, Christmas as a whole family event stopped after that year. Grandma really was the glue. However, every household has a copy of that VHS - and I have the original. I was able to get it transfered to DVD, and those two things are all I have left from my Grandma. I feel blessed, though, because I insisted we tape the lessons. I can "see" my grandma (and a much, much younger & thinner me) anytime I want. She taught me that LOVE should be the primary ingredient in everything we make. I extended that to my arts & crafts, to cleaning, etc as well. I do my chores with love in my heart, because a house may be a shelter from the storms, but it's not truly a home without love mixed in. editted to add: That ice cream dessert looks so beautiful! Leia (sp, sorry...)... everything you make ends up gorgeous! Your mom is right... everything we eat, we first eat with our eyes. Your creations are certainly a feast for my eyes! I hope you never stop learning & creating such beautiful foods. 😀 I ❤️ Rosh Hashanah Prep. I count your videos and words as cherished memories, complete with amazing tips (like the wet paper towel under an onion when you cut it! Amazing how well it works!)

I've only recently discovered your channel and it's really wonderful and very soothing and wonderfully positive. I am making my way through all your videos and am really enjoying them, not just for the recipes but also your positive outlook. I, too, have wonderful memories making Shabbat and holiday meals with my grandmother (z"l) and really enjoy making meals for my family. The best secret she taught me is that when you make salads that you want to be crisp when you serve them, like a green salad, the trick is to put the dressing on the bottom of the bowll and the salad on top and then you can store it in the refrigerator until you're ready to eat it. Of course, #ILoveRoshHashanaprep and I've already started mine. Wishing you and your family a Shana tova u'metuka and all the blessings of the new year.

It is difficult to choose just one fond memory of being in the kitchen with my precious mother. I have to choose one that is special and funny. My mom was soooo particular about how she cooked anything that was covered with a batter. Her favorite saying in addition to saying “don’t touch that (to certain people)” was “stir that for me but don’t scramble it”. This was if she had taught you how she wanted it done. It was a joke among myself and my 2 sisters. If we were helping her cook we would jokingly say to one another “DON’T SCRAMBLE THAT”.

10:16 My mom never really cooked. She was busy first studying and then working so she had no energy to cook when she came home after a long day at work, so we ate a lot of microwave dinners. When I started studying home economics in 7th grade and learned how to cook I became the one who cooked for us. I only knew two dishes though: meat loaf and minced meat sauce, both usually eaten with pasta. I was tired of eating the same thing over and over again but I kept quiet and kept cooking those because my little brother, who is 2½ years younger than me, loved them and didn't mind eating them almost every day. Later I learned how to make more dishes. My little brother still sometimes wants my minced meat sauce.
