I think a sad truth about trying to sell furniture from homes like these is that the people that have suitable homes and the available cash for the grand old furniture already have their own grand old furniture. An auction house close to me recently sold a Victorian period mahogany grand piano for €50 after it failed to meet a €200 reserve the first time. It's the letters and family photos that get me though, I really dislike seeing such personal things and the human stories being left and forgotten. Very sad.
@bwturbex

Over the years we discovered so many untold stories which where left to rot. Shows that everything and everybody transient. That thought can be depressing in the beginning but if you accept it, it will give you enormous freedom to do what you really want without fearing consequences too much

Considering the quality and period most of the furnishings are of in the interior; I'm honestly surprised at how much of it was not looted. There was an ormolu vase still on its pedestal. This place must either have been guarded very well, or is extremely secluded and not known of. Can't wait to check out the video!

tbh The letter makes me smile. The lady's family back in Germany sounded warm and loving. I bet she had a wonderful and happy childhood despite her humble background. Sad that years later, she most probably spent her old age alone in a big, lavish mansion.

I'm sad that she was separated from her family. I have so many questions and can never have answers.
@bwturbex
@bwturbex Год назад
According to the letters, the family and people from the family's village were all very happy for the lady. She found a fine husband who was a scholar and pretty wealthy. The family was based near Mulhouse which is on French territory today, close to the German border. It would be only a few hours by car to get to this mansion. But 75 years ago, it would have taken much, much longer...

This place is phenomenal and pristine! It looks like the owners were there just this morning. I swear my home has more dust in the living room than this one does, they must have someone checking on it and keeping it clean even if there are a few random spider webs. I wonder what a home like this would sell for, especially with all the contents in place like this. I would love to spend my retirement reading the journals and letters of the archaeologists. These people may not have had children, I can’t imagine leaving things like these letters between family members behind without a care.
@Hbot208

Seeing how the lady of the house ended up living a lonely life in the end, all the trinkets and baubles and pieces of her life being left behind to rot and gather dust... My heart just plain hurts. I suppose there's some solace to be found though, at the very least you've helped put her story out into the world and ensure that she's never truly forgotten.

The artistry and class you bring to each of your video stories truly stands on a level of its own. You bring to life what your cameras see, so poignantly that one can almost smell the fragrance of old books, feel the texture of faded upholstery, and hear the creaking of old floorboards. This mansion it the kind of place where I could spend weeks, combing through the small treasures left behind by those who filled that “Cabinet of Curiosities” with souvenirs of their own travels and explorations. Thank you for always bringing your unique quality content, that takes me away to the places you visit. Love this exploration. What a beautiful and grand building. I’m glad someone is making use of it now. It was cool seeing evidence of this family’s travels. The low heeled red shoes look middle eastern, and the wooden carved pipe with a feather tied to it looks like a Native American piece. Many tribes used pipes like that in ceremonies, tho’ that one looks like a tourist piece. Thank you for reading a bit of a letter. Really gives us a feel for the family who lived there. Doesn’t matter so much if you’re rich or not, at the end you want your loved ones around you (tho it is good to be able to pay your bills.) How sad that just one older person ended up there all alone. At least the dead animals were more at a minimum here. Thanks for posting this one at last. I think all the spectacular Italy footage outshone all else for awhile.

@Broken Window Theory up in the northeast back in old colonial times they modeled their mansions like the manors they'd seen in Europe before they came over. The Vanderbilt house for example in Rhode Island. We call them mansions or plantations in the old south. I live right next to a town called Freistatt mo. It's an old German town that still celebrates beer fest and old German agriculture. Lots of Amish who use no electricity and live off the land like in the old days. They make the best home-made pies, jelly, preserves, and sell them to the public! It's called Ernte fest not beer fest sorry. Its like a harvest festival every year where the celebrate German heritage with lots of bratwurst and beer!

Amazing work you guys. And please could you check your link, it's not working when I copy and paste it on RU-vid, like the channel does not exist.

Nous essaierons à l'avenir d'avoir plus de sous-titres en français. Cette vidéo sera également sous-titrée dans ta langue. Revenez nous voir !

How about you finding a channel that speaks French, instead of demanding others change the language they speak to speak yours? Aren't there any French speaking RU-vid channels? Why don't you start one?
@frontenac5083
@frontenac5083 Год назад
The whole world is not gonna learn and speak your language to accommodate you just because you demand it does. If you're too lazy or too thick (or both) to learn foreign languages, stay within your comfort zone on channels you understand.

@@bwturbex Congratulations for the near perfect French reply! I would've made a consistent choice between "tu" and "vous" by saying either: "dans votre langue" followed by "revenez nous voir", or: "dans ta langue" followed by "reviens nous voir". Other than that, great.

Well, this one was a very special one. Just look at those patterns, at least 500$ I'd say

The wooden piece is definitely from a real rifle, probably a .22lr or some other small caliber. Im Not sure what sort of rifles are available over there.
