My wife and I bought a Maytag Bravos MCT washer in 2006. We already had three young children so we did our share of laundry. It is now 16 years old and has performed flawlessly - at least as good as my past Kenmore. Super efficient, loads of nice features, and got everything clean. Today it stopped working and I got my first "error code." Not sure yet if I'll repair or replace it but I certainly can't complain.
I have a Bravos MVWB835DWO machine purchased in Nov 2015. About 6 months ago I realized by fluke that it was not getting clothes clean. I had a pair of dark socks that still had some grass on them - so I rinsed them in the sink to remove the grass. The water was dirty! I grabbed another pair to test it out (these are my son's socks that can be quite dirty!) After being through the wash cycle I hand washed them and the water was absolutely filthy! I ran 3 cleaning tablets through the machine at once. Now I have done this again a few months later and did another test - socks still coming out filthy. So I also handwashed a pair of dark sweat pants (which had to be re-washed anyway because of all the residue left on them) and the water was dirty from those as well. Ended up hand washing that whole load! (I even have photos to prove all of this). I called Maytag and was told to use less soap to eliminate the residue on dark clothes (I only use 1 tbsp/15 ml) - to which I replied, "but how is that going to get my socks clean?!" They want to send out a tech to look at it - but everything seems to be running and going through the cycles; no error codes or funny noises. VERY VERY disappointed with this product and upset that I spent $1000 less than 2 years ago and now have to likely get something else. I previously had a Maytag that was 20 years old and still worked (and hardly ever needed repair). Might have to look at a Samsung or Speed Queen as I see those recommended.
We purchased a newer Maytag Bravos washer and have had no end of issues with it. It is a slightly different model, but lots of issues with it malfunctioning in multiple ways. Same issues with large\bulky load settings causing problems. We often had to unplug it for 40 minutes to an hour to get it working again. Definite control board issues and lots of startup issues even after servicing.
I bought this exact machine in 2011 and it was OK when it worked but the cycles were malfunctioning from the first month on. only had it 2 years and junked it. Got a speed queen top load washer and dryer to replace this garbage featherweight machine and have had the speed queens coming up on 4 years this March. Get a speed queen. well worth the extra money and piece of mind.
If you haven't already, find a SPEED QUEEN. It won't be at the big box store, and you may have to look online for a dealer. You mentioned going to the laundromat? If they have top-loaders, check what brand they use. Probably SPEED QUEEN. They are the most durable machines in the industry and the first choice among commercial self-service laundries.
@Ronald McFondle I would think it's more likely that those stores refuse to carry Speed Queen. The less reliable the washers are the more frequently people have to buy new ones. They want shorter lived machines just like the manufacturers do. Why make $250 profit selling 1 Speed Queen that lasts 25 years when you can make $150 profit 5 times selling junk that only lasts 5.
I really hate to see people pay their hard earned money and get stuck with one of this new generation of to put it plainly junk HE washers. I had my aunts 40 year old 1977 GE Filterflo and only recently did the outer wash tub start to rust. So I thought hey whats to complain about, its freakin 40 years old-! So when I went looking at new washers for the first time ever, I was astounded at the huge drop in build quality - its been replaced by fancy paint jobs, water restrictions and flashy failure prone electronics, but good build quality was nowhere to be seen. I found the nearest dealer and bought a commercial duty SPEED QUEEN and im totally satisfied. No error codes, no out of balance problems, as much or as little water as I want, excellent overall performance, fast wash times and a killer warranty included in the price - best appliance ive ever owned.
I'm 54 years old, and I remember my mom having a Maytag washer that never broke down and it ran from morning till evening. The quality in Maytag these days has been replaced by cheap inferior parts and chimes.
You said it, we grew up when appliances lasted an entire generation or more. I remember when Maytag used to promote their quality and never needing repairs, we all remember the lonely maytag repairman. Don't see him anymore, hes too busy fixing their trash machines built by whirlpool. I bought a commercial duty Speed Queen and no problems since.
I have a Maytag Bravo and if I bought it at a store like Sears it wouldn't have been cheap. Received a great discount on it. It's 4 years old and it's never had a repair. Then I added a 5 year warranty on it. Have even heard of stories about Electrolux washers. People pay 1500.00. The machine needs repair and the company is asking the customer to pay more. Front loaders can have mold and other issues. Used to have a front load machine and it constantly needed repair. Every 3 months needed repair - that was a different brand.
I own a Maytag Bravos without the glass lid that a gent gave me with bad tub bearings. I wish mide had a glass lid on it. I consider you lucky. Anyway, I replaced the bearings on it, and put it back together. If I were you sir, I would tilt the washer back, look under it, and make sure the connections on the devices below the tub are not reversed, or improperly connected. Or, you could remove the connectors, and reseat them. The same should go for the top control console as well. I made the mistake once of not hooking the rotor position sensor properly, and the Machine was throwing codes and acting funky. I re-sat the connector, and the machine worked very well afterwards. It turns out I didn’t even hook up the connector, I “connected” it to some plastic tabs on the stator housing, thinking I had connected it. Disconnect the power before touching the electrical jazz below the machine tho.
3 years ago was looking for a new washer was looking at maytag but then after i saw the reviews on them i went with ge and my ge he washer was the best washer i had in a long time the ge HE washer works good and its 3 years old without any problems and the ge washer was $50 more at lowes and that was worth the extra $50 to get a good washer
i don't get the new washers . whats with all those bells and whistles ??? ...they come with huge tubs . but they don't fill with enough water . so why have a huge tub .
I had this exact model. It lasted just 2 years. The electronics began malfunctioning within the first few months. My washer had similar problems where it would fail in the power wash cycle and either stop or drain out the water. I should have known when I went to buy it. It was light as a feather and the spin cycle vibrates the whole machine even with nothing in the tub. Overpriced Whirlpool junk! Whirlpool doesn't build good top load washers anymore. Got a Speed Queen to replace this oversized paperweight and the rest they say is history.
Those teeth for the agitator are actually designed to fail in case something gets wrapped up. Only cost a couple bucks to buy yourself. My washer wont spin out just bought it yesterday kinda sucks.
There was a guy that had the same washer but no see through lid his washer got stuck in sensing mode it would do2 normal spins then fail sensing mode and get an electrical smell
You are right about your washer being made by Whirlpool . Whirlpool bought out Maytag in April 2006 . If you really want a well built long lasting washer now days you have to buy a Speed Queen . They are built to last up 25 years and have a life time warranty one the wash drum .
I made the unfortunate decision not to get the extended warranty, but I wouldn't want to take time off work to deal with it. Mine is about 10 months old and is leaking gear oil on the floor, so I guess I'm going to buy a GE.
my Samsung top load washer had the drum replaced and all four suspension rods then six months later that came out replaced all four suspension rods again and all of the balance sensors and the control board and its still not working. Going to get rid of it and buy a speed queen
I think Speed Queen is still American made and there's some great reviews. Regardless who the manufacture is, it's so sad that corners are cut in quality just to make a buck. In the end, if a cheap product is sold don't count on them to be around.
I hardly ever get to buy any thing new. Was ecstatic to get to buy a brand new Maytag Bravos HE washer and dryer set!...washer barely lasted 3 years...just out(by a few days) of extended warranty, which I normally would not have done! Washer stated acting like it was out of balance, but it was not, checked repeatedly. Then started to self destruct!!!! Found large shard of what appears to be hard plastic from material machines inner construction ! So glad that I looked before shoving my arm inside to grab laundry that was btw not really clean...never washed thoroughly...fyi- takes water to get things clean... I am so disgusted and that washer still sits in my garage, while I now have clean clothes, safely, from a probably15 year old, good old fashioned washer. Quite frankly I am beyond believing that no class action lawsuit has happened on these dangerous, defective washing machines! How is this legal? Sure isn't safe...or worth the high $ price...doesn't even clean your laundry. Made all the difference switching back to a conventional washer. Immediate difference!
It sounded like mine. There's too much resistance on the motor because you can hear the humming. The motor should be spinning freely. You may have bad tub bearings like mine did plus so much lint build up by the drain pump filter cap. I changed out the tub bearing and now it spins VERY fast and quiet.
Hi there, it's been a year since I replaced the bearings on my Maytag and no problems. If you spin the tub and it moves freely and smooth with no rumbling noise, then your okay (Give it a good spin by hand). If you spin your tub and feel or hear a grinding or rumbling noise, then you need to change the bearings. The appliance man wanted $350.00 to fix it, but I bought the bearings (top and bottom) and the special tool for around $60.00 or so. Just be aware how freely it moves right now for future references.
Thank you for your fast response! My tub spins very smooth and quiet so it seems to be in good to fair condition. Looks like my problem is the run capacitor or the shift actuator.
What is your washer doing? Just to let you know, these washers have no transmission like the older washers, which is good. I miss the 'wig-wam" sound of the older washers.
It's doing exactly what's happening in the video. Instead of sensing, it hums and spin slowly. Wash and rinse seem to work fine, but when going to the spin cycle, it just hums and spins slowly causing the clothes to be more wet than usual. I ran a diagnostic test and got the following errors: F1E2 (washer motor control fault), E7E1 (Basket speed sensor fault), E7E6 (Motor fault). MOD#: MVWX600XW0
Get yourself one those old used Whirlpool with a mechanical timer. The maintenance is as cost effective as it gets, it may not connect to your wifi, but sure washes your clothes clean, Lol!
I've had a Maytag Bravos X for 6 years and it has been pretty good. I did have to replace the spline clutch and spring. It cost $35 and it took me 30 minutes. It definitely isn't best washer as far as quality goes, but knock on wood, we've had good luck with ours.
@@Sheeko_Reckless It was stuck in the drain mode. It would try to shift into the spin, but the spring must have been weak and the gears on the clutch were worn enough that it would just keep pumping and not go into the full spin. The tub would just rock a little like it wanted to spin, but wouldn't. The repair was simple. Lay the washer on it's side and remove the belt cover, the pulley and then replace the spring and gear kit. 30 minutes tops. I also found another one like mine on a curb in my neighborhood. I grabbed it and I've disassembled it. If I don't fix it, I'll just keep it for spare parts. Good luck with yours.
I have a Bravos X, running 12 or 13 years idk. A while ago, for some reason it filled, agitated, and spun 5 times and ended up on only the rinse cycle for 50 minutes. Now I’m replacing the wash plate for the teeth inside being worn. Other than that it’s a great washer.
our He Bravo was tossed, bought a samsung. maytag always off ballance during spin, this caused the seal to become broken thus the transmission to fail, thus the motor to fail. asked some one to estimate to fix. it cost mor than a new one, samsung does not have this issue.
Agreed, I have a samsung front load that just fits my family perfectly Also survived a fall from a truck lift while I was moving Also is your model a top load or a front load?
At least yours fill all the way up . Mines never did that I know of because everyone I stopped it and opened the life the water was very low . Now I keep getting that I leveled UL that comes on .
It’s not suppose to fill up. It’s an eco saver. Water preservation type. It balances the load and puts the water it need during balancing then water at per wash and then more water in the wash cycle. I’ve been using mine for 4 years and it works perfect.
@@cythcy when I put in a light load the water does. It cover the clothes . Half the clothes are still dry and dirt left in them. UNLESS I hit the extra fill
@@cythcy also I have taken clothes out to put in washer and wonder why many items are dry. At first I was thinking maybe I forgot to push start but then I thought then how was half the load wet . Lol it’s crazy . I’m. It even sure it’s agitating fully .
I just bought a new home and inherited this crap machine. Came on yt to see if it’s loudness was common, apparently I’m lucky mine still works. Had an lg front load for ten years at old house it was fantastic. Electrolux too, never again with Maytag.
Not really. They offered us a buyout of the warranty and we took the $400 and went to the OTHER store next to it (think blue) and bought an LG. No problems with the new one and still have the see through top lid.
Our bravos stopped draining. We haven't even had it for 3 months. Took 5 days until repair could come out. I thought something died in it. The smell from the washer is awful. Tomorrow I'm hoping they can haul it away and purchase a washer made in the USA
I have the same machine, a couple of years older than yours. My rant is TWO things: WHY do I need to clean the washer after a number of loads?? Is it the HE detergent, which I don't see a need for but I use so as to not void any warranty? Also, I absolutely HATE that I cannot soak a load for more than 30 minutes with this machine before it drains...tried just turning it off after filling(another third thing I hate since it doesn't really fill, just barely covers whatever level of clothes that is in there)but then it drains so I have to start over....I really, really wish I had insisted on the same simple agitator washer I originally had.....NOT a fan of this sucker!!
You would think all Maytag Bravos would have similar problems. However I have the Maytag Bravos MCT; and it's been trouble free for over 5 years of heavy use. It must have been manufactured somewhere different; where people care about quality.
I can't say I am thrilled with my Maytag Bravo XL. It doesn't spin out as well as I would like. The soak and spin cycle doesn't work all that well and it takes a VERY long time to run any cycle to run. The last time I tried to use the soak and spin it seemed to be stuck and unable to finish the cycle. I was using it because I had run what could be considered a medium size load on normal and the items were so wet I couldn't even put them i the dryer. It needs a separate spin cycle THAT ACTUALLY WORKS. I'v only had it 3 months.
@@doctorfeinstone6524 they have a belt. The belt on mine was messed up 2x. My brother fixed it. First time had slipped and second time had to get a new belt.
Have a 2017 model that is now failing so bad that even the Maytag service provider has recommended to me to call for an exchange. He has replaced a bad cap, motor, clutch, actuator, and transmission. All at a value that is twice the value of buying my machine brand new. Still, it does not work and after a month of digging for change to frequent my local laundromat, I'm ready to smash the unit myself and go to something else.
Found this video because my TWO YEAR OLD bravos is banging and leaking, cant find the paper work for my warranty(which is my fault). But I shouldn't have to. My previous washer was over 14 years old and survived 3 cross country moves while washing bulky military uniforms nearly daily before it ever started banging and leaking! Not TWO! Junk, product is over priced junk.
HATE mine !!!!! My black clothes always have soap spots on them and I hate that the water level is only what goes into the clothes !!! There's no water in the tub ! Just the clothes. SO UNHAPPY :(
You ever find the repair for this? Been having the same problem for months and it's becoming really annoying. Ran a diagnostic test and got errors of, F1E2 (Motor control error), F7E1 (Basket speed senor fault), and F7E6 (Motor fault). I'm thinking it's a problem with the motor run capacitor, or the shift actuator; still a bit uncertain.
The repair we landed up doing was taking the money offered from the warranty company and going to a DIFFERENT store and buying a new LG machine. No problems with the new machine yet.
They never did really fix it. Kept replacing the control boards. Each board they brought was a different model number. They never ran a load to see if it really worked. Just did a "test" if that.
If this were mine I would have taken it outside, unscrewed the lid lock from the lid and stuck it in the switch by itself so I could keep the lid open while it spun, removed the back panel, turned it on while recording, and left it so I could get the sweet smoke show from the motor as it burnt out.
belt drive? does not exist. it does have a belt to the motor. the computer control is bad. check ohms on motor. white to red. and white to yellow. should be 4 ohms.
I have one of these i just replaced the mother board and it still will not wash cloths ...but if i take out the cloths it will run normal.... what am i doing wrong?
Does anybody know why it's making a loud thunk noise, like the basket is dropping. Replaced the bearings and had a hell of a time correcting the leak afterwards. Wondering if something new is now broken
I have this machine (mine does not have clear lid). It stinks unless you use AFRESH once a month or so. THE MACHINE ACTUALLY HAS A CYCLE THAT SAYS "CLEAN WITH AFRESH". This is because small amounts of water never drain from the machine. The AFRESH cycle uses 100% HOT water and the afresh bleach tablet NO CLOTHES can be in the machine! I think this kills whatever water or energy savings this may have.
The smell you were smelling was the burning motor. From the buzz, I can tell, that the motor wasn't too too happy. What basicaly happened was the motor started burning out,and it started to smell like burning paper. It is dangerious, and whenever you hear a motor buzzing this loud and not turning, or turning in ripples, you HAVE to turn ity off IMEDIATLY or else it could catch fire. Something is wrong with the main control gear inside the inner workings of program wheel. Or it vould be just a simple failed motor capacitor. If the problem is capacitor, then just replace it and the maschine will work again.
Your first problem was making a purchase through Menard’s. Along with Walmart, Amazon, Home Depot and Lowes they offer the worst support on appliances. By from a company who actually cares about their customers and reputation. Buying from the cheapest retailer doesn’t equated to proper customer service. You get what you pay for.
I'd look into a starting capacitor. thats just what i think... when they burn out the bottom of the capacitor shoots out a paper coil thing and some oil.
Get the real Maytag called Speed Queen or find a old 60s or 70s Maytag,GE ,Whirpool, Kenmore, and restore it ..Whirlpool ruined Maytag after the buyout.. I have the last of the real Maytag made in 2002,works great ..
We had the Maytag Bravos. Lasted 4 yrs. Can't believe they made agitator spline out of plastic. The part that really takes a beaten .slapping back and forth. Bottom line stay clear of this product. We bought an LG to replace it.
It seems you either get exceptionally unlucky or lucky with modern appliances like this, sucks Maytag went out of business in the early 2000s and were bought by whirlpool and crank out this stuff, my dream is to find an older mechanical timer Neptune front loader, but getting an older whirlpool direct drive would be ur best bet, but it seems to be cheap manufacturing in the drive components for the motor, electronics should far outlast anything mechanical and yet they don’t. Go but something refurbished it’ll be ur best bet
look on the bright side, broken junky made machines create jobs. lol. somebody has to fix the stuff we don't make anymore. if u want a good appliances still made in america get speed queen washers and dryers, or premier stoves and ovens.
Well, I wish I knew this before we bought ours in 2017!!! Our spin cycle doesn't work!!! The agitator spins but not the tub so the clothes gets wrapped around into a ball and on one side of the machine!!! I had a Maytag that lasted 15 years before we bought this one. DO NOT BUY THE BRAVO MAYTAG MCT. It will cost just as much for the repairs than if I went out and bought a new washer. 600.00 pissed away in 3 years. They should be ashamed of themselves to put this garbage on the market!! ps MAYTAG is not the problem its the dumb as partner BRAVO that put their garbage parts on a well known brand!
HOLY SHIT. I want to replace my Maytag washer that I have been using since the middle 90's for a Maytag 5.2 cft washer. This video just the scares the living shit out of me of the modern and newer shits. Let me see now, we have using making washing machines for close 100 years and things supposed to get better and not worst. Why we make shits that works????
There all crap. Just got a new Maytag in July. Already had service call 4 months later. Bottom guard and belt and pully just fell out of machine. But watching the clothes the agitator doesn't go back and forth fast and hard like the old machines. The clothes just sit there and lightly go back and forth in the water. Doesn't hardly agitate them at all. No real suds being made either. No way their getting clean.
we bought the bravos XL washer and dryer. the units have been great, no problems, EXCEPT, it's impossible to clean a pair of jeans. doesn't matter what soap is used, they just won't clean jeans. when they come out, it looks like you just dipped your dirty jeans into some water and pulled them out again. frustrating as hell. I miss my old machine, where you could fill it with water and let a load soak before starting the cycle. fucking water saver machines, they are garbage. you can't clean clothes saving water.
ugh these machines are trash, honestly, just like all HE machines. Try to find a vintage Whirlpool direct drive somewhere, that will last your whole life.
I have a Kenmore 24" large capacity 70 Series that I completely disassembled and rebuilt. I even took apart and rebuilt the transmission, with a brand new clutch, neutral drain kit, and OEM 90 weight gear case oil. It runs and looks like new. These old direct drives go together and repair like Zippo lighters. All this makes me think twice about buying a new HE machine.
Jeez, I thought my 2013 Samsung was a piece of garbage for rusting out it's top panel and door. This thing is utter rubbish for failing to this magnitude at such a young age. I was going to buy a Maypool..... I cancelled my order. Had the Samsung repaired under warranty. I was just disgusted with the rust. Mechanically and electrically the Samsung machine has been very good. I would be thoroughly pissed off if my machine did this shit to me.
If you want to go in 1/2'er's with me on renting a cutting torch, we will both cut up our poa Maytag, you take your to Menards, and I'll take mine and dump it on Lowe's front door step. Just tell them no charge, they can have it back for free, but don't ever expect us to buy another appliance from them.
Believe it or not the cheaper machines, Roper, Amana, last longer, not as many bells and whistles to break. They sell more of them too, so they've gotten all the kinks ironed out of em.
I have a Maytag Bravos MCT and it's a lemon!! We paid over 900.00 and we are going on our third repair call! My machine has been called the Cadillac of their machines...well I'm here to tell you that's a bunch of bull!! Horrible machine...don't buy it!
More like the Yugo of washers, and its not just Maytag either, when my 1977 GE finally started needing repairs I fixed it with NOS parts. But it will have to die someday, so I looked in the stores and saw the junk they were trying to push so went straight out and bought a Speed Queen - EXCELLENT washer-!! Simple old school with knobs and does the load in record time with clothes coming out very clean. Highest quality consumer product ive bought in 20 years.
This is the worst washing machine I've ever had. The clothes are sometimes not even wet after the wash cycle and the thing spins itself out of the laundry room! My second service call is in a few days. Don't buy it!!!
4th breakdown 200.00 a shot! Should have just bought a different machine the second time!!! And the lid lock omg We never needed a lid lock back when we knew not to stick an arm in a spinning washer!!!
I am very disappointed in this machine this Maytag Bravos. The tub too deep, standing on tip toes to reach bottom of tub.Clothes are NOT clean. I would not re buy bravos!
After four years of residential use by a family of four our Maytag Bravos model MVWX655DW1 washer had an unacceptable failure of transmission part # W11035751 due to poor design. The output shaft that drives the tub and agitator is unprotected from corrosion and is submersed in each wash cycle and subsequently designed to fail. This preventable failure could be prevented by the designer by plating the shaft or constructing it of stainless, but then they would sell less washers. The transmission purchased on E-bay was half the price than if purchased from Maytag and worked wonderfully but has the same issue. The only thing I could do on the replacement transmission to slow the corrosion is to paint the shaft then coat with silicone during assembly. I know this will make disassembly more difficult in the future, but it is the only option I have as grease may not be used inside the wash tub. The other issue of concern was the build up of a quarter inch of mud under the agitator and around the wash tub despite the regular use of the proper cleaning products to periodically flush the washer. My expectation of Maytag products was one of quality design but after seeing this failure in a relatively short period of time, my expectation has changed greatly!
